The internet went crazy when *Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright* was announced. It’s a crossover that got peoples hearts pumping. But what if it’s never localized? It’s unfortunately a strong possibility. Here’s the situation according to Capcom’s Christian Svensson:

> I can’t say right now. Frankly, it’s looking like more and more like that title is going to be handled by Level 5 than Capcom and we’ll have to see what their plans are and what role we play in it. Their US distribution is typically is run through Nintendo. I don’t even want to guess right now what their plans are but at the moment they’re focused totally on Japan. There’s loads of people right here who want to see that happen – it’s just not totally within our control right now. Level 5 is doing the development – they’re the ones largely calling the shots about where it’s going to go.

Let’s hope Level-5 comes through for everyone, or Capcom gives them a bit of a nudge in the right direction.

  1. Jbluna

would this come before or after the 6th main series title?

  2. rod

NO!! Megaman legends 3 having the chance of not being green lit is enough to crush my heart. I don’t need to find out this game won’t be coming out in other regions! I sure hope this game get localized.

  3. Jbluna

I hate how it always takes like 2 years to localize the Layton games

  4. Total911

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEEEEASE LET THIS HAPPEN, CAPCOM/LVL-5!

  5. What about the OTHER Prof. Layton games…

  6. Yin

If Ace Atorney titles and Layton titles are localized I don’t see why this crossover title wouldn’t.

  7. Sean

Level 5 puts on puppy dog eyes

Pwease can we have Layton VS Wright? Pwetty please with sprinkles and cherries on top.

I am truly and totally prepared to make myself look like an absolute ass if that’s what it takes.

  8. marie

they have no reason to not bring this over here.

  9. sadf3

I hope they do. If they don’t the loss is on them since everyone I know that has a 3DS really wants this game, including myself.

  10. Nelhew

If they don’t come out with a localization. They will be the one losing a whole lot of money.

  11. cyberninja45

If this doesn’t happen i will learn Japanese just to play it.

    1. Sam

you’ll also need a japanese 3ds. region looked.

  12. omgitsthegaem

i really got in to both of thoses games over the past week and i have become a fan of them, and i do hope that they release this game to north american.

  13. James

    OBJECTION!

    1. butterbiscuit

      HOLD IT!

This is contradictory to the loyal fans of these two franchises. pats paper

  14. Marquis

    If they don’t…
I’ll kill them Kristoph style with some nail polish and a stamp.

Geeze, we need to a new Phoenix/Apollo game, and it’s been what? Four years since they announced Saiban 5, yet all we get are two Edgeworth titles? (Not to say they aren’t good, just it lacks something from the main series.)

Hopefully this will at least inspire Takumi to rejoin the Gyakuten team and finally start developing GS5.

    1. Maande

This game is one of my top reasons why I bought 3DS in the first place. I’d be very disappointe if those two companies don’t realize what I expected.

  15. CUDpwns

I really hope it is released outside of Japan, it looks awesome.

  16. cory

I swear if this does not make it to the USA I will have to say my 3ds will be incomplete in every single way

  17. Sohakes

If this got released on the USA, I will rob money from the bank to buy one 3DS.

Btw, level-5 don’t need directions from capcom. Level-5 only did really great games until now.

  18. SkinnyWasian

ooooooh they better release this game outside of japan!

  19. FacestabMan

Ace Attorney Investigations 2 won’t come out outside Japan, but if Level 5 decides that we might get it.

I mean, Phoenix Wright wasn’t too popular, but Layton series here had lots of advertising and were -always- best sellers. And my country is full of pirates.

    1. Sam

if people hack, 3ds is rendered unlayable. :(

    2. Sam

      unplayable

  20. Gengar

We might be lucky since Level 5 is doing it.
Because Capcom won’t even release Mile Edgeworth: Ace Attorney: Investigations 2 outside of Japan, as they confirmed.

  21. Andrew

If Nintendo handles it, that means we can expect to see it in about 5 years.

    1. Sam

      :D lol

  22. SuperYoshiBoy

    GRAAAAAAAAAAH! No….no……NO. We. Need. This.

  23. Nintendofan

Please Capcom. If you do it I know that many people will buy it because now we are acustomed to the series. And you’ll get much money. So pretty please do it.

  24. Dr. Rocket Genius

This is the most important game in the history of crossovers. We NEED this.

  25. Honestly the game is in development so I understand why their focus is currently only on Japan. It’s probably too early to be talking about localization.

I have kind of wondered what would happen if they were going to localize and bring it to NA and EU though. It’s true typically Level 5 distributes their own games but when they bring it out in other markets Nintendo is the one who does it for them.

Capcom however would be able to bring it out for them… but that would depend on the legal stuff on the properties too.

Think about it. If Nintendo has a contract that has them distributing anything to do with Professor Layton in NA and EU then depending on how that contract reads they might have to be the ones to bring it out Layton vs Wright over here.

Of course that is a ‘what if’ statement. It might be arranged where none of this is a problem. But I really think its far too early for people to be worrying over whether or not this game will get localized.

I think it will. There’s a fanbase for both series here so it’s pretty likely. And if people keep asking Capcom about it, certainly Capcom would recognize the fact that this is something people want?

    1. Sam

      wow. thats long

  26. Explosivejones

I have a feeling we won’t especially since pw doesn’t have that BIG of a following here and come to think of it neither does pl
look like it will be a japan only release and MAYBE europe

    1. Marquis

I agree somewhat with PW. Not many people know about it in my area, but there’s a huge ‘Net following; just look at all the fan games, sprites, and art.
And PL doesn’t have a base? It sold really well in both NA and Europe, and there are a lot more casuals playing it than PW has.
