There is a huge price drop for the 3DS starting on August 12th. But, according to this source Walmart will lower the price to $169.99 three days early. This means you can purchase the 3DS and get the free games as a part of the ambassador program. This is all a rumour at this point, but it does come from a reliable source.

  • Jarrah

    AMAZING and yay first comment

  • Requiem

Although it doesn’t affect the actual ambassadors who got it early; I still find this unfair to people who paid full price.

    • Brandon

Not to mention that that’s three extra days Nintendo unknowingly loses money.

    • https://sites.google.com/site/hybrilynx/ David Hoyle

they dont loose money brandon. or if they do, i didnt know. becuz i always thought they make the money selling it to the store. and if the store sells them, they buy more from nintendo. if the store doesnt sell them, they stop buying from nintendo. nintendo shouldnt loose anything until later.

  • bmcj199

    WALMART RUINS EVERYTHING!!!!

    • Jimmie

no wai!! they made my life MUCH easier :33

  • Jimmie

    =O YESSSS!!!!! YESSSS!!!! FINALLY!!!

  • holographics

    I save $80,i get free games,and people will call me “Nintendo’s Ambassador”,cool.

    • Marioman101

Just to be a jerk, I’m going to walmart and getting the cheap 3DS, a eshop card, and the nyko charge kit from best buy.
I’ll be set until I have enough money to buy ocarina of time.
      O_o

  • Tom

David, why did you post this? You do realise you are helping people cheat the ambassador program, right? Yea you want to provide us with all the news about 3DS, but this is plain wrong. You’re basically advertising an exploit and on top of that, you’re making the REAL ambassadors, who have supported the 3DS from the beginning, feel bad.

    • David Turnbull

That’d have incredible ethical implications if I didn’t post news just because I didn’t like something about it. Either way, it doesn’t affect me if other people get a great deal, so I have no problems sharing this. At the end of the day it doesn’t really matter. It’s only video games.

    • Jess

blame it on nintendo then….they are the ones leaving people until 11:59 on Aug 11th to sign into the Eshop to get the free games

    • Squiz

It is just video games, but it’s a llot of money for some people. And for people to be able to get almost twice the value as those who bought at launch its extremely frustrating for someone who is a fan, to really get no incentive and suffer a pointless financial loss. I’ve lost a lot of motivation to support nintendo and I’ve been a strong fan for a decade.

    • Bob

Stop being an angry old man. You’ll get more girls that way.

    • Squiz

Relevance? I’m not an old man I’m 18 and I have no problems with women. I have problems with money dumbass, and paying $350 for a console with more than it’s fair share of issues. And now allow me to be irrelevant, go suck a dick, you seem to have nothing to contribute, so just put a fucking dick in your mouth so you will shut the fuck up.

    • Sam

Sounds like somebody’s mad he adopted early and other people still get the ambassador awards with the price drop.

  • mike

@david h. Nintendo sells its consoles to stores at a set prices, then (walmart) sells it at suggest retail prices.

  • Nintendo-something

This is just cheating. And yes Nintendo WILL lose money with this one. They give you 20 free games(read: games that can be used to get money and will be used for that cause) but you don’t even pay the original price which made Nintendo give apologies because it was too high.

  • Blah

    this is not fair tbh

people can get 3DS for 170$ and 20 free games

    what the f…

    • Marioman101

Oh well, this isn’t burger king. Seriously though, people really need to drop this “oh, Walmart is having a price drop before the actual date, is unfair” talk. Walmart has done this plenty of times before so I don’t have anything to complain about. Anyway, off to get my 3DS. :)

  • spencer

i am really feeling bad about people who bought 3ds before.but i m happy that i didnt buy it cuz i was just at the edge of buying it.

  • Tails the Foxhound

Exploitation at it’s finest. (Wonders if he has enough to get his brother a 3DS before the 12th.)

  • Mr MC ClapYoHandz

    for some reason….i feel like buying a 2nd 3DS

    • Gamegal

      I do too. I won’t but this one’s a better deal. :(

  • BobYaung

yeh mee 2 but id hav 2 buy th aqua blue cuz i hav th cosmo black

  • http://www.yahoo.com Hunter

    yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeea

  • manowar

YES MY MOM HAS A DICOUNT AT WALMART TO! WOOLOOLOOLOOLOOWOOLOO!!!!
    im happy:D

  • Jess

you all need to calm down….walmart in canada already lowered the price by 50 bux back in july….so calm down…..why should you be the only ones to get 20 free games,….10 of which aren`t going to be released through the eshop….walmart`s not the only one to lower the price, best buy canada and future shop had it on sale for a bit.

    • mellowthespy

We support Nintendo from the very beginning and so we deserve to get the 20 free games, and now people who didnt buy the 3DS because it was too expensive, now can get it for 80 dollar less and get the 20 free games.
I dont really care, to be honest, but its just unfair, towards the REAL early adopters. I hope you realise that.

  • TheSpoonyBard

$169.99? AND the ambassador program?!? That’s cheating!!!

    • Troll Lord

Cheating?? Bullshit!! This isn’t a game you prick

    • Joko

Derp, he means cheating the system, retard. If you can’t understand that, you’re just slow.

    • Marioman101

How slow, Silver the Hedgehog slow?
      O_o

  • Nesyaj0

    This is such bs…
    So unfair to us…
The ambassador program should be based on serial numbers not connecting to the E-Shop… sigh…

    • Nesyaj0

The other thing is Some stores will probably STILL sell the 3DS for 250 even after the price drop for w/e reason… may be misinformed or… something, so the rips offs work both ways but early adopters like me are the most pissed off group here cuz the exclusive content isn’t so exclusive anymore…

    • Squiz

Exactly, this could have been prevented by nintendo, if they used a smarter method. The longtime fans and supporters of nintendo aren’t being incentivized, when they next launch a console, who is going to buy it at launch? Or at all? A lot less people now. I know I don’t trust nintendo anymore

  • http://www.yahoo.com Hunter

yea lower price and 20 free games sweet :]

  • thepopcornwolf

YESSSS I am gonna get the free games AND discount.

  • Mr MC ClapYoHandz

buy it now for $250. then once the price drops, bring the receipt in and get some money back! check policies first.

  • stusader

I got mine at Costco a few days ago. I love it so far.

  • Nesyaj0

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
This right here is exactly what I’m talking about…

  • Alex

    YAHOO!
The 3DS will be $170 3 days before and i get to have 20 Free GBA GAMES!

  • Joko

I actually hope its wrong, this is fraudulent. You should be ashamed of yourselves, you are in no way an Ambassador, let alone a loyal Nintendo customer. And yet, you try to steal 20 games and be proud of it. Why did you post this david, do you support robbery? I payed out the ass for my system, and I get the free games. You people might as well be downloading ROMs to put on your system. I’ll laugh if you drive up there and it’s still $250. (to non-3ds owners)

    • Blade

      Cool story bro.

    • joko

      stfu

    • Troll Lord

      Get over yourself, my god.

    • Joko

Get over myself? Shut up you pathetic greedy prick.

    • Charles

Salty tears. Getting my system nearly $100 off WITH free games. Tastes so good.

    • Joko

Whats with you trolls trying to f*ck with me? By the way, its not gonna happen. Empty wishes from your greed filled hearts, and your only hope from one rumor on one website. Pitiful.

    • Squiz

Tastes like greedy fat little piggies to me. Your not even supporting nintendo. But with all that money you saved you can now afford that extra weight support noose you needed to hang yourself.

    • Squiz

It’s a pity theirs just not enough rope in the world to support the weight of all these fat greedy trolls.

    • Charles

It’s hilarious that you’re disguising the fact that you’re envious and angry about other people getting a good deal, by saying OTHER people are envious. lmao.

    • CrimsonalCore

C’mon, guys, can we move on? I know this seem unfair when people paid for full price, but… So what? At least all of us getting a free games, right? Seriously, people, calm down and move on, for fuck sake. >.>

    • GASHLOOGORRR

Envy and Greed are 2 different things, but congrats for fucking that one up. Fail troll is fail.

    • Charles

Just checking in to say that IT WORKS. Got it at Walmart today and registered for the games.

      Good stuff.

  • metroidhunter08

although its a reliable source, i have faith the rumor is fake. nintendo made a big deal about the price drop and they wouldnt allow this. the massive complications involved in selling expensive products make it even less likely. wouldent they only make $10 with each sale? thats not enough to pay for the shipping, processing and packaging. not to mention the incredibly tiny portion of people who will actualy go and try to buy a 3DS in such a short piriod of time. im confident its not gonna happen. things just dont add up.

  • Mark

I got my 3DS on eBay for $189.50 just so I could get the 20 free games. I think everyone should get a shot at these free games as long as they get their 3DS before the price drop no matter how much they payed they payed for it.

    • Squiz

What is your reason for thinking that? The free games were offered to those who paid full price as a compromise for the sudden price drop, to give us (those who paid full price and actually supported nintendo to begin with) an incentive. Now people are exploiting this incentive, basically ruining it for the rest of us. The added value of the free games evened things out when you look at the value, now it means nothing thanks to crap like this.

    • Squiz

The ambassador program was meant for those who paid full price because the price drop would cause a lot of people to be upset. How do you stop people being upset? Free games! But really, you guys are really stealing these games from nintendo (they lose money in eShop sales) and your stealing them from true ambassadors, we paid full price, that’s why we deserve the games.(2nd hand sales are fine)

    • Crater

Dude calm down. If walmart is dropping the price on 8/9 then so be it. So what if people are getting the 20 free games by not spending the 250. As long as uou are getting the 20 free games you should not be worried about it.

    • Squiz

Look at it this way, I’m in aus, I paid $350 for my console at launch. Now the price is going to drop to 220 – 250$aus. Meaning I lose roughly 130$ value. The games gave back that value to those who lost out. You guys already get your $130 value through the price drop, you are not meant to get these games.. It’s meant to even it out for those who lost money. Having access to the ambassador program with the value of the price drop = twice the value in your guys purchase which we didn’t get. The games evened it out for everyone, but people still gotta be greedy and pinch as much money from nintendo as they can, even though they get a great deal already. Tell me where it’s fair for those who REALLY support nintendo and paid full price.

    • Charles

Trust me Squiz. I am meant to have these games. AND get my 3DS $80 cheaper. It’s meant to be.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s never be an early adopter for Nintendo. The DS Lite, backlit GBA iteration, etc. They always screw their early adopters.

I’ll take the price drop and free games, thank you very much.

    • Squiz

Good for you man. It doesn’t stop any of this from being unfair though. Did I make a mistake by supporting nintendo? Yes. Will I do it again anytime soon? No.

  • Mark

Not many of us can afford to pay $250+ tax for a handheld. I sure as hell would have bought the 3DS at Launch but I just couldn’t afford it. I’m horrible at saving money. But when I saw the hames that were available for the ambassador program I just had to get one. I haven’t had a chance to play some of these games in a while and some I’ve never gotten a chance to play but always wanted to.

    • Squiz

Fair enough you got it on eBay. I’m angry at the stores who are planning to drop the price intentionally before the 12th to push their own sales. Nintendo loses out majorly in eShop sales if this happens, they already lost alot of money, through stocks and the poor launch of the 3ds. People aren’t supporting nintendo by exploiting this offer, they are making them lose more money, it’s selfish and in the long run we will get less quality and support from nintendo, or push them into the ground and bankruptcy, pretty sure this price drop means they are already selling at a loss without people exploiting it further.

    • Charles

People aren’t supporting Nintendo by buying their console for the price that they put out there?

You’re just envious of everyone else who wasn’t biting into their $250 handheld and still get to reap the rewards. Quit being so salty about “Nintendo support”. What a cop out.

    • Squiz

Are you fucking stupid? Nintendo is already selling at a loss because of the price drop. You guys aren’t meant to have access to these games, it makes them lose even more money through eShop sales. You know it’s unfair and it’s wrong. Their is no argument against that. The games evened things out for fuck sake. So fuck off dude I have every right to be pissed off.

    • Charles

You have a right to be pissed off. Nintendo screwed you over bad.

  • Mark

And I also wanted to say that I have a always been a big supporter of Nintendo. If. I had to pick between Sony and Microsoft or Nintendo I’ll always take Nintendo. They have consistently offered quality games AND systems.

  • Charles

I can’t wait to get my new 3DS for $80 off and 20 free games. So glad I waited and won out.

    • Joko

You already said that, and you know what? Its just not enough for you to get to get whatever you want with that $80 is it? You’re desperate for $80 worth of more games, and then you’re gonna sit there and be content with you’re piracy? I know its most likely not gonna happen. But even still, you don’t have to be a such a complete asshole about it, trying to make actual ambassadors even worse. Might as well go hack your system, and put as many games as you want on it, since you obviously don’t give a damn about Nintendo or its private incentive program.

    • Charles

      So salty!!! Love it!

    • Charles

Also, as long as I get the games, according to Nintendo I already am an “ambassador”. Just like you. The only difference is, I saved some money. So I’m an ambassador with 80 more dollars. And no, I don’t give a damn about Nintendo. They screwed me over with their countless handheld iterations, and re-selling of the same old rom-dumps. Why you people blindly follow this company after they screw you over, is beyond me.

    • Joko

Just keep hanging on to that rumor. I’m a loyal nintendo fan because they make the best games. And they make the best hardware. Not because there is a possibility that a store can ruin an incentive program. I have faith that Nintendo won’t let Wal-mart screw 3ds owners over. Its time to play the waiting game. Oh and btw, youre not an ambassador for getting the games, youre an ambassador for paying the original price. also, trying to act like you love when others are pissed off is very childish, maybe even, as you say, salty. Nintendo didnt screw anyone over, there is just a rumor that there is a possibility the walmart might screw us over. You act like its a given fact that its gonna happen, when its obviously a rumor that your arguing with. Tired of hearing your ridiculous responses…

    • Joko

Yeah, its not a rumor now. But im still pissed, and it still isnt fair

  • nintendogeek16

If walmart does this im still guna get it but not the free games. Cause i wana be fair to the other who bought it before! :)

  • Mark

I still plan on giving Nintendo more of my money on some of the great eshop games they have like Link’s Awakening, Super Mario Land, and Donkey Kong just to name a few. I don’t mind giving Nintendo my hard earned money for their games. They have earned it. I hope I don’t sound like a cheap ass, but I still have a three year old boy to provide for. That’s why I bought my system on eBay.

  • Kenn

Squiz u really need to chill ot. Nothings gonna change wit u trollin here. Nintendo isn’t losing money bcuz of this early price drop. Walmart bought the 3ds from nintendo at reg price since the price drop hasnt occurred yet. If anything walmart would lose money, but they r probably doin it so they get more sales early. Nintendo prolly is only losing money for the free games but not much

  • Kenn

Also it’s not nintendos fault and they can’t do anything since walmart already bought their product, so technically it belongs to them and they can sell it at any price they want. Their sales were prolly low, so they put it at the price drop price so more peeps wud buy it so just srsly take a class in business. Now don’t go trolling on me cuz I prolly won’t care way u say. I’m out and stop blaming david u rewbs honestly he’s just sharing 3ds related news and I doubt he even cares abt ur ridiculous bickering.

    • Squiz

Dude, I know the situation and I’m not trying to troll. I’ve just been trying to make 2 real points, 1. These games were intended for those who purchased the console before any major price drop. 2. The ambassador program and the evening out in value would have stopped people being upset about losing out, but that plan has been completely fucked up. And people like me WILL be upset about it. I realize a lot of my comments have been out of anger, but I will ask to have all my posts removed and remove myself from this site. Those who didn’t lose out won’t understand my anger and argument.

    • Squiz

Resulting in a never ending argument cycle, unless I just leave lol.

    • Charles

The ambassador program was not *meant* for anything other than damage control for Nintendo. They don’t give a damn whether or not the free games go to people like you who don’t care if Nintendo has no games for a handheld that thyou think is actually worth $250 or people that get the discount. They don’t care. They would do it by serial number if they cared. They are trying to cover their asses. If they can quell discontent among consumers and send 25 year-old game rom dumps to whoever to do it, then fine. They don’t care about *you*. So stop being so salty over people getting the games and the system at the price it should’ve launched at.

    • kenn

its ok squiz u dont need to do tht and seems like uve calmed down. i was just trying to make a point cuz i dont hve a 3ds yet and i dont plan on buying 1 yet. if tht makes u feel better. im prolly gonna buy it when the 3dsi comes out. so peace nd hve a good day and srry for any insults.

    • GASHLOOGORRR

I shouldnt have been so rage driven in my initial responses. It hid my initial simple point. People will be upset by these pre-emptive price drops. Nintendo will lose even more support. But there is nothing to be done. Im going to enjoy going over some classics on my 3DS, relive the past, But if i want a real handheld for 2011/2012 gaming it will be the Vita (cmon 2d is on 90% of the time with the 3ds its a gimmick), and fuck getting vita at launch either.

  • Manuel

u people need to calm down in life u win some and u lose some. like the metroid fans they made a zelda and mario anniversary made but no metroid 25 anniversary which is a big deal its ones of nintendo most hardcore franchise anyways u need to stop being a baby *****

  • Alvin

haha wallmart will get so much money but best buy gamestop or other stores that sells 3ds wont get us much more money

  • Yoshii :D

Target already has it at 169.99. I played with the 3DS and i must get it (:

  • nintendogeek16

Ugh tomorow when i go to walmart i better see $169.99 on the price tag, if not ima be so mad!!!!

    • Manuel

      YEAH!!! dude gonna rage out

  • Crater

It is true, they are selling it at 169.99 today

  • nintendogeek16

Bleepin walmart!!! ugh went today and they didnt even drop the price!!! awe well ill just have to wait till friday..

  • Abel

I got it for $169.99 at walmart! I called three stores, and they were out of stock, but I called the fourth one and they just had two, the store is an hour away from my home, I drove like crazy hahaha. oh yeah! I will get free NES and GBA games!
