Walmart to sell 3DS for $169.99 on August 9th?

There is a huge price drop for the 3DS starting on August 12th. But, according to this source Walmart will lower the price to $169.99 three days early. This means you can purchase the 3DS and get the free games as a part of the ambassador program. This is all a rumour at this point, but it does come from a reliable source.

      they dont loose money brandon. or if they do, i didnt know. becuz i always thought they make the money selling it to the store. and if the store sells them, they buy more from nintendo. if the store doesnt sell them, they stop buying from nintendo. nintendo shouldnt loose anything until later.

    David, why did you post this? You do realise you are helping people cheat the ambassador program, right? Yea you want to provide us with all the news about 3DS, but this is plain wrong. You’re basically advertising an exploit and on top of that, you’re making the REAL ambassadors, who have supported the 3DS from the beginning, feel bad.

      That’d have incredible ethical implications if I didn’t post news just because I didn’t like something about it. Either way, it doesn’t affect me if other people get a great deal, so I have no problems sharing this. At the end of the day it doesn’t really matter. It’s only video games.

      It is just video games, but it’s a llot of money for some people. And for people to be able to get almost twice the value as those who bought at launch its extremely frustrating for someone who is a fan, to really get no incentive and suffer a pointless financial loss. I’ve lost a lot of motivation to support nintendo and I’ve been a strong fan for a decade.

    This is just cheating. And yes Nintendo WILL lose money with this one. They give you 20 free games(read: games that can be used to get money and will be used for that cause) but you don’t even pay the original price which made Nintendo give apologies because it was too high.

    you all need to calm down….walmart in canada already lowered the price by 50 bux back in july….so calm down…..why should you be the only ones to get 20 free games,….10 of which aren`t going to be released through the eshop….walmart`s not the only one to lower the price, best buy canada and future shop had it on sale for a bit.

      We support Nintendo from the very beginning and so we deserve to get the 20 free games, and now people who didnt buy the 3DS because it was too expensive, now can get it for 80 dollar less and get the 20 free games.

    although its a reliable source, i have faith the rumor is fake. nintendo made a big deal about the price drop and they wouldnt allow this. the massive complications involved in selling expensive products make it even less likely. wouldent they only make $10 with each sale? thats not enough to pay for the shipping, processing and packaging. not to mention the incredibly tiny portion of people who will actualy go and try to buy a 3DS in such a short piriod of time. im confident its not gonna happen. things just dont add up.

    I got my 3DS on eBay for $189.50 just so I could get the 20 free games. I think everyone should get a shot at these free games as long as they get their 3DS before the price drop no matter how much they payed they payed for it.

The free games were offered to those who paid full price as a compromise for the sudden price drop, to give us (those who paid full price and actually supported nintendo to begin with) an incentive. Now people are exploiting this incentive, basically ruining it for the rest of us. The added value of the free games evened things out when you look at the value, now it means nothing thanks to crap like this.

      Look at it this way, I’m in aus, I paid $350 for my console at launch. Now the price is going to drop to 220 – 250$aus. Meaning I lose roughly 130$ value. The games gave back that value to those who lost out. You guys already get your $130 value through the price drop, you are not meant to get these games.. It’s meant to even it out for those who lost money. Having access to the ambassador program with the value of the price drop = twice the value in your guys purchase which we didn’t get. The games evened it out for everyone, but people still gotta be greedy and pinch as much money from nintendo as they can, even though they get a great deal already. Tell me where it’s fair for those who REALLY support nintendo and paid full price.

      If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s never be an early adopter for Nintendo. The DS Lite, backlit GBA iteration, etc. They always screw their early adopters.

    Not many of us can afford to pay $250+ tax for a handheld. I sure as hell would have bought the 3DS at Launch but I just couldn’t afford it. I’m horrible at saving money. But when I saw the hames that were available for the ambassador program I just had to get one. I haven’t had a chance to play some of these games in a while and some I’ve never gotten a chance to play but always wanted to.

      Fair enough you got it on eBay. I’m angry at the stores who are planning to drop the price intentionally before the 12th to push their own sales. Nintendo loses out majorly in eShop sales if this happens, they already lost alot of money, through stocks and the poor launch of the 3ds. People aren’t supporting nintendo by exploiting this offer, they are making them lose more money, it’s selfish and in the long run we will get less quality and support from nintendo, or push them into the ground and bankruptcy, pretty sure this price drop means they are already selling at a loss without people exploiting it further.

    I still plan on giving Nintendo more of my money on some of the great eshop games they have like Link’s Awakening, Super Mario Land, and Donkey Kong just to name a few. I don’t mind giving Nintendo my hard earned money for their games. They have earned it. I hope I don’t sound like a cheap ass, but I still have a three year old boy to provide for. These games were intended for those who purchased the console before any major price drop. 2.       I shouldnt have been so rage driven in my initial responses. It hid my initial simple point. People will be upset by these pre-emptive price drops. Nintendo will lose even more support. But there is nothing to be done. Im going to enjoy going over some classics on my 3DS, relive the past, But if i want a real handheld for 2011/2012 gaming it will be the Vita (cmon 2d is on 90% of the time with the 3ds its a gimmick), and fuck getting vita at launch either.

    I got it for $169.99 at walmart! I called three stores, and they were out of stock, but I called the fourth one and they just had two, the store is an hour away from my home, I drove like crazy hahaha. oh yeah! I will get free NES and GBA games!
