Renegade Kid has re-launched the website for Mutant Mudds, a 2D retro-styled platformer coming to the 3DS via the eShop in the not too distant future. They have also released two new trailers that you can check after the break.

It’s just games with the same amount of content sell for a dollar on the iPhone app store. Granted, I don’t know how much content Mutant Mudds has, but I’m gonna go out on a limb and say it’s probably only gonna last me 3-5 hours.

However, not all iPhone games are little games like that. The majority of eShop games are overpriced. I mean think about it, unlike hard copy games, they are paying literally nothing accept server costs to give you the digital copy of the game. Therefore, it’s 100% profit for them. That’s how they can afford to price them so low. And that’s also why 10 dollars is too expensive.

Nowadays you can get great iOS/Android market games for $6 or under (dirt cheap sales too) and they are either well done ports, smaller version of existing games, or well designed originals. We’re not just talking Angry Birds. The only thing that prevents me, and many others, from gaming on tablets/phones is the fact that they rely on touchscreen controls. However, that may change with the implementation of bluetooth controllers as can be already be seen to some extent on jailbroken and rooted devices. (I am only comparing iOS/Android games to eshop games and not 3DS fully fleshed out releases of course). So yes, I do think $8+ for a game that only gives you a few hours of gameplay at best is overpriced. I probably won’t pick this game up if it’s over $8, but I do like the music.

Well that just means you think *comparably* that eShop games are overpriced. It takes months of hard work to create quality games, and you’re getting it for the price of change you find in the street. I’d venture to say that the games on either platform are all UNDER-priced.

The slight price difference for ports is nearly neglegible, when you consider how few there are. Nobody buys an iPhone just to cut rope, and nobody buys a 3DS just to cut rope, either. You buy either because you like the unique things they have to offer. Maybe cutting rope is one of those things, maybe not. It’s just good that it’s available with whatever you choose.

it is rare for me too but i have a sibling next to me and i get streetpass (if you want to call it that) everyday other then that on the street its like 1 or 2 a day.

From my experience, these are the two best places where I got street passes: Disney World, and the Nintendo store in New York. I got 30 in Disney alone, so i think i know what i’m talking about.

I drift every chance I get, even at small turns. Though I’m sure snaking isn’t possible on any normal terrain I actually have been able to do so in the mud near the end of Luigi’s Mansion.

its a retro styled game that even has IGN excited- get over it. I’ve been looking at this game since the original concept was introduced for DS. And no it wasnt the same in fact it was 3D instead of 2D back then- glad they changed it.

Even if it is cheap and outdated, it is still *fun*. And that’s what matters. People don’t play games because they look like real life, but to be entertained. Of course, graphics does helps, but it isn’t everything. It’s the same as saying “Limbo has almost NO sound! It’s sooo cheap and the developers must be lazy to make some!”, even though it IS a good game.

I don’t get this game either. If you like these kind of games then play flash games. There are tons of games just like this free on hte internet. Also I didn’t like Shantae Risky’s revenge. I’m actually a bit mad because the game was quite expensive in my country.

@Eggholo, there are only few that are fun as Muttant Mudds, and then there’s the 3D layers you can only see at the 3DS. There’s not much fun games on Flash. Muttant Mudds is also a complete experience. But opinions are opininons. I don’t like Flash but I loved this one.

bleek, the 3D effect helps seeing the layers on the levels. See it in 2D (On the trailer), it’s just messy until you play it in 3D.

When you accelerate with etheir a star or mushroom right before you go inside the cave where the second checkpoint is,you will instantly go to checkpoint 3 which is 20 seconds from checkpoint 2.:)

I think it’s normal DavidW, when I was a bit younger my parents could only buy me 2-3 games a year at max, even when I saved money it would take forever to get enough to buy what I wanted but I noticed most of my friends were the same.

Now in high school I get money from music, painting walls, the occasional animation AND lifting heavy things the people around town can’t lift (I have a lot of spare time).

Though I think I’ll only be able to afford 2 games before summer this year so I’ll have to choose which out of all these awesome ones I can actually buy. My money is on Kid Icarus and Resident Evil so far!

I honestly don’t like the art style… it looks like they’re trying to mimic a retro game but are failing.

I’m not sure if I’ll buy this game. It looks retro, which I love, but… it isn’t quite unique enough to distinguish it from the many other retro platformers out there. Jumping from the foreground to the background in 3D is neat, though. I like the music too. I just wish there was a bit more to it, or maybe a trailer showing some different stuff. I still might get it though just because I’m a sucker for 8-bit games.

Yes, iOS et al is undrepriced if you want to make a living. Even if you don’t, you’ll lose money.

Studies have been done, and these companies make stuff and lose money, make money and dry up as one hit wonders, or they make something called Angry Birds.

There’s a bit of hyperbole in my description of the situation, but it’s still valid. Do a couple searches if you want _all_ the facts. I can’t be arsed at the moment. Just my two cents.
