Satoru Iwata announced during an investor briefing that New Super Mario Bros. 2 will be available as both a digital and retail release, making it the first title to have that honour bestowed upon it. As for pricing, we’re not sure on specifics, but there won’t be a big difference between the versions.

  • Ghosty

I’m still gonna get it physical, but it’s great that Nintendo is finally starting to do this for 3DS and Wii U.

    • mah boi

ikr? I want a physical copy so it doesn’t take up space on my memory card. I also just figured this out when it was posted.

    • AceOfBlades247

      @mai boi

      Same.

    • http://www.csfgpapercraft.com/wp Seb

I preffer a physical copy too. Just as I do with a book.
It gives me that satisfaction of having to put something on my shelf :P

    • http://mayker.tumblr.com Mayker

Normally, I’d agree about physical copy over digital. However, this is a simple sidescroller, so I’m not worried about it taking up too much space. Additionally, BECAUSE it is a simple sidescroller, I will probably be wanting to play it often, just a break from all the Kid Icarus, and Resident Evil Revelations. So having it readily available would be nice.

But then, if it’s complete garbage, then I can’t trade it in… Hmm.

If it is cheaper to download, that might be a benefit. But I wouldn’t want to get stuck with a crap game like what happened when I got Skylanders.

How about some input from you guys?

    • uhga buga

physical is just where its at for me i like having it in my shelf even tho digital would be really dam convienient espicially with a handheld its just not for me thts y pouches and handheld cases were made =D old school!!

also with digital not only can u not trade it in but u probably cant even sell it unless u sell the sd card with it which would end up makin u lose more cuz i doubt som1 would pay off the sd card + game cost

    • Mountain Man

It’d be awesome if the physical copy included a key so that we could download it to our system. It will happen because someone could download the game and then sell the cartridge back to the store, but it’s a nice idea.

    • Redfrog

I like the fact that we have a chosie. Since i used a Flashcard on DS i find it usefull to have all the Games at one Place. I agree with the reselling thing and also want to have some games as a hard copy, but e.g. Bit trip saga is kind of anoyigng as i have to cary it with my 3DS.

We all know, that big N wont make the games that much cheaper, but it is a step towards a better online experience

    • MM-Royalninja

      @Mayker Skylanders wasn’t really good right ??? I think Im selling it……

    • Joshua

Actually Skylanders Rocked, U Just Sucked At It.

    • MM-Royalninja

@Joshua Uhhh ….I beated the game! maybe you bought the consle version! Becouse the consle version had multiplayer and more of the story and stuff!the 3DS version was just a short game! I liked it when I was playing It but it was to easy!I all most got all of the hats and all!I did like the toys but it would be a little better if they made them miniture or the same size with joints! And no multiplayer for the 3DS version!so it did kind of sucked!

    • Zack

What would be awesome is if the retail games came with download codes for the digital version. So you can only download it if you buy the retail, then you get to choose and have both.

    • DaveC

You do know that these digital copies will be locked to a specific unit that you bought it for right? This means lots of DRM and restrictions. If your unit breaks you can’t use it on a different one without permission from Big Broth.. I mean “N”, if you want to sell it you can’t obviously, If you lose the unit it is locked to how will you convince them to let you use it on your new one and that you aren’t a pirate? What if the 3DS “lite” or whetever it is comes out and you want to use it on that? You can’t. See they aren’t going to let you play the game on more than one unit as then they will sell less.

Then you need to rely on Nintendo’s infrastructure if you want to move the “license”. So if in the future you want to come back and play these games but Nintendo no longer supports them you won’t be able to unless you happen to have the same unit and it still works.

All of that because you are too lazy to go to a store or swap a cart? No thanks, give me a real permanent copy that I actually own and can do what I want with it without having to ask a big corporation for permission.

    • frest123

      @ DaveC
This problem can easily solved my good sir. Simply make it that only one of each respective file of the game can exist and that copying is impossible. That way, you can only TRANSFER the game and not COPY the game thus, it is the same as only having ONE game.

    • http://www.DONT_CLICK_ME.com TechTris

Well, I’m still deciding on which version to get. I’d have to buy a 32 GB SD Card first, but they’re pretty cheap. As for the software being locked on one system, I think you can transfer it along with the rest of your 3DS download software. It’s just much bigger than the rest of them.

    • Aceeeeeee**

Calm down DaveC, just get the physical copy lol Nintendo is just giving you the option

  • Jodel

Might get the digital version to save me a trip from the store. :)

    • http://www.csfgpapercraft.com/wp Seb

You can always buy it online! ;o
Its a shorter trip to the mailbox ;)

    • Newah

      But it’s also a longer wait. :P

    • AceOfBlades247

It is the game card, it will have much more content I would wait if that was me but gamstop is down the block for me.

    • ABXInferno

But you don’t get all those brochures and instruction manual (although the digital manual of Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 are more detailed than the print manual) and that cover.

    • haha

True, its so much more convenient!

I wish Nintendo will make all the DS games available for download online just like PSP games on the Vita.

Many DS games are hard to find in retail and the roms are so small, it can be downloaded very quickly.

All DS rome are already available online illegally, its really up to Nintendo if they want to give people an option to download them legally.

  • Mondy

Hope it will be downloaded to the system memory not the sd card

    • Zachary

Why would you want it on the system memory? There isn’t much space for a full game there. I recommend an SD card with more space if you’re worried about that. Besides that, this news is actually really great to know. I’ll be getting a physical copy, but It’s nice to know Nintendo will (most likely) start doing this for a lot more games.

    • AceOfBlades247

But then youll end up buying a 20 GB SD card.

    • Mondy

@aceofblades a game is only about 2g of memory plus i already have an 8gig on

    • AceOfBlades247

      @Mondy

I’m talking about the future when more things like this happen.

    • haha

When Nintendo said its 2 GB its actually 2 gigabits, equals to 250 megabyte.

      1 byte = 8 bits.

3DS games are way smaller than Vita games, so it makes sense to have a download option.

    • pocketmanu

      @haha
      Wrong!
The 3DS game card supports from 2 to 8 “GIGABYTES”
Resident Evil Revelations, MGS3D and KH:DDD come in 4GB size cards

    • haha

If you don’t believe me, check out the size of the 3DS roms thats being dumped.

    • haha

      On the PS Vita,

Wipeout 2048 is only 1.6 GB, a huge game like Uncharted is 3.2 GB. Keep in mind these are high resolution games with home console quality.

On the 3DS, there’s no games over 1gb. Thats why the cutscene video looks grainy.

    • pocketmanu

      @haha
      Jesus Christ man
I don’t write things that i’m not sure
      look
      http://www.gonintendo.com/?mode=viewstory&id=176322
The sizes are in GB, not Gb

    • pocketmanu

      and one more thing
2GB its not a minimum size for the 3DS games, as you can see in the link I posted, most games don’t reach 1GB in size. However, it doesn’t mean that there are no games larger than 1GB ;)

    • pocketmanu

      And another thing…
      Sorry about my bad english
      xD

    • https://sites.google.com/site/battlestriker123/ Battlestriker123

@pocketmanu All of those are in Gigabytes, all converted from the carts which are measured in gigabits. Therefore the 2gb cards are 2 gigabit cards and not 2 gigabyte cards. It’s been like this for ages and it hasn’t changed since then.

    • AM

      @haha

Most games are below 2 GB but they are put on 2 GB cartridge, there are some that are much bigger though. The size is Gigabyte not Gigabite, so the sizes are similar to that of Vita, and Nintendo has cartridges in 2 GB, 4 GB, and 8 GB. Vita has a similar offering except they also have a 16 GB option (but I do not believe for either developers use have used beyond 4 GB).

  • millsy

Retail for me. It will take up space, and some people don’t have online. But it’s nice for people who don’t have a game store near them.

    • Co-Wink-Key-Dink inc.

Hop on to a free network!!

      Why are you complaining?!

Super Mario 3d land was only 40-60MB

    • Pbsman

      SM3DL was about 310 MB.

    • Co-Wink-Key-Dink inc

Sorry i thought they meant 31 megabytes, not 310!! If only they put the zero….

    • AM

      @Co-Wink-Key-Dink inc.

The ROM dump was actually 310 MB.

  • tw33ty

sooo cool! i hope its at least a lil cheaper in digital! that would be awesome, i wish nintendo could make more digital games

    • AceOfBlades247

Digital would more likely be the regular story line and the game card would have extra content.

  • TheGlutton

    I will definitely not buy digital;
    1. Takes up SD space
    2. I cannot buy or resell a used digital copy
    3. I cannot lend out a digital copy to a friend

It seems everyone, Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft are interested in killing the used market for games nowadays…

    • AceOfBlades247

Plus It’s not going to be as much content as the game card.

    • http://www.youtube.com/ZeAllMighty1 ZeAllMighty1

      @AceOfBlades247
Why do you keep saying that? They both will have the exact same content.

    • uhga buga

yea killing the used market is dumb i would only buy digital if they were about $35 dollar games for console and $20 for handheld cuz im pretty sure seeing something like retailer gets $15 makers get $25 and console provider gets $15 and rest goes too tax not sure tho

    • Total911

I don’t think Nintendo’s trying to kill used games by selling the game as both digital and physical.

    • the psvita is better

the only reason why physical is superior is because when you open it, its smells like new :P

    • http://www.gravatar.com/avatar/16a07c1e06c4010a42f31cc4d1a0702d.png ABEzilla116

      @AceOfBlades247

What does being digital have to do with the amount of content?

      Answer: Absolutely nothing.

    • Co-Wink-Key-Dink inc.

      Because it’s ruined!!
I mean used games don’t even have manuals half the time!! Some game, like pac man party for game-cube, you need the manuel!! It’s so friggon confusing!!! It takes forever to find and download the manuel.

      ITS SCRATCHED/DAMAGED
      Wheres the cover’s?
Why won’t they give us the manuel?

      @TheGlutton
1 “Takes up SD space” GAWD It costs 4$ for a used SD card

    • http://nintendo3dsblog.com/photos-of-a-kid-icarus-uprising-float-in-japan Kaizar

I got a 32 GB SD card, so I’m good.

      @AceOfBlade247

Please stop commenting your false assumptions all the time.

This is the 100th time, that you are wrong.

Because we still get the exact amount of content thru the digital copy.

Plus the game is probably, like 500 MB out of the 8 GB all 3DS games have the option of being, for retail/digital of retail.

The only games that I know that actually use a minimum of 2 whole GB are Cave Story 3D & Resident Evil: Revelations & Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D.

I wouldn’t be surprise if Cooking Mama 4 is only up to 30 MB.

Dillion’s Rolling Western is only like 37.4 MB (374 blocks).

      THIRD POWER!

    • DaveC

Plus if your 3DS breaks or if you upgrade (Lite or whatever it will be) you need to hassle around to get permission from Nintendo to get the game to work on the new unit, if you even can.

With a cart just pop out of the old unit and put in the new one. No asking permission and waiting, not mandatory internet connection etc.

This is just a trick to kill used game sales and to make it so you really don’t own the game, you just rented it.

It is a trap! don’t fall for it!

    • https://sites.google.com/site/battlestriker123/ Battlestriker123

I don’t think you’re going to have much problem when it comes to Animal Crossing though. They are generally smaller games, you’d probably love it to bits and won’t resell it, and you wouldn’t want to lend your village to your friend to screw up XD. All joking aside, I think Animal Crossing would work well as downloadable, mostly because it’s played in short bursts and I’d much rather not have to swap cards every time I want to play 10 minutes of AC.

  • millsy

So that’s why some of the games on the eShop said ‘not available on Nintendo eShop’.

    • AceOfBlades247

Only reatail games say that. This one will be an exception.

    • Zack

It says not available in the Nintendo eShop because it is a retail-only game. It’s saying the game is not available to buy through the eShop.

    • Zack

Not that they were implying that some of them WILL be available through the eshop. But that specific message’s only purpose is to clarify the difference between an eshop title and info on a retail game.

    • millsy

All of the replies I’ve recieved are the EXACT same thing I said.

    • Belinni

I think they’re just trying to woo you millsy. With a face like that who wouldn’t?

I’m guessing your just trolling now cause:

      1) It hasn’t been confirmed anywhere that the hard copy has more content.

      2) Why would Nintendo do that anyway.

      3) No digital copies of games I own or have ever seen have had less content as the retail copy.

    • AceOfBlades247

      @ZeAllMighty1

Hmm…. think about this, would you spend 45 dollar on a digital game? Would you want to fill your 3ds SD card with 2 GB?

    • Reo

      hardcopy gives more contents?
have you ever bought a PSP-go?
      or apple device?
do you even know something called “Download Content or DLC”?

dude. cmon.. how old are you anyway?

    • holonboy

@ZeAllMighty1 I have a 32GB SD card as well, but 2 GB is A LOT. I’ve bought every digital software that came out for the 3DS, and I want to continue doing this for years to come. I don’t want to fill up 1/16 of it with one game.

    • Vann

@holonboy well no worries, there’s just a few games that have used the entire 2GB of the retail cartridge. Most of them dont even reach 1G B, so you wont be filling THAT much on you SD card. SD cards are cheap anyway

  • lupus

why is everyone saying itll have less content if its digital download? is it speculation? because surely if its around the same itll be the same game minus cartridge costs?

    • AceOfBlades247

Actually I’m the only one that said that, so far. Most likely that the Game Card will have more content.

    • http://www.gravatar.com/avatar/16a07c1e06c4010a42f31cc4d1a0702d.png ABEzilla116

Which will have less content and which will have more? None, they will both have the same amount of content. No one has ever put less content on a digital release and they’re not going to start now. Game card or download, they will be the same exact game.

    • DaveC

While they both will be the same it COULD effect size for BOTH versions.

If they know the game will be downloaded they will likely refrain from making the games too big. This means avoiding lengthy cutscenes, large memory hogging textures and music etc.

It is about bandwith, they don’t want to have their servers bogged down with everyone DL-ing huge games.

    • http://nintendo3dsblog.com/photos-of-a-kid-icarus-uprising-float-in-japan Kaizar

But this game will most likely only take up to 200 MB to 700 MB.

      The Cartridge is 2 GB.

The only game to actually use up a whole 2 GB cartridge is Cave Story 3D.

Almost all the other 3DS games have been 100 MB to no more than 1.5 GB each.

And they are not going to refrain.

This is just a option for some people to download some retail games and continue to buy the rest in store.

And we might get an update to use XC SD cards, which means we can use 512 GB SD cards in the Nintendo 3DS and they will get cheaper to buy with each year that goes buy.

By 2015, a 512 GB SD card will probably cost $50 or $90.

And not that many games need to even use a 4 GB cartridge.

      THIRD POWER!

    the next 3ds will be 3ds-go 16GB and 3ds-go 32gb.

some people just dont have sense of joke

  • Zack

:O This sounds cool and all, and Nintendo always makes good decisions, but wouldn’t full retail game downloads take away from part of the fun of buying a new videogame? Miyamoto said he does not like smartphones because they don’t have physical buttons, which makes your connection to the videogame feel less direct. I feel the same way about physical cartridge games. There’s just something about buying a real game at a store and adding a physical box to your shelf that makes cartridge games better.
Even so, I’m interested to see how this works out and I’m sure it will be cool.
But btw, wouldn’t a full retail game take forever to download and use up at least 1GB+ on your SD card anyways?

    • AceOfBlades247

Likely. But about 5 minutes for my internet connection. I downloaded the “Folder Update” in under one minute.

    • Zack

I downloaded that update in about the same time too. I’m not so much concerned about the downloading speeds as I am about storage space. I only use a 4GB card for my 3DS. I could download 1, maybe 2, games at that capacity. It basically forces you to buy a 16 or 32GB card if you want a reasonable amount of space to keep your games.

    • uhga buga

5mins of HURRY THE F*** UP AND FINISH ALREADY!!!!

instead of being exited ripping tht plastic off the case and smashing tht catridge into your 3ds =D

    • Total911

Yeah, the Residoet Evil: Revelations demo will probably take longer than it will for this game because for RE:R it had to download all those high-quality textures and most importantly the game engine itself, so I imagine this download couldn’t take any longer than that demo (about 5 mins).

    • Omarsonic9

      Sleep Mode Download, hell yes
and also, Buy a new SD Card

  • ?

it’s nice that nintendo finally started doing this because you can get Sd cards for really cheap like a 64gb would be less than $30.

    • AceOfBlades247

      Really? Where?

    • miiworld2

^ Stores like Fred Meyer and Target

    • Zack

Yeah but 64GB+ cards are SDXC format. The 3DS doesn’t support that does it?

    • Zack

Btw I went to target and they didn’t even carry 32GB cards. Only a pack of two 16GB cards for $40. sheesh. And I just bought a memory card from them online. You can get 32GB cards for 30 maybe. But not 64GB. Use amazon or ebay for 64 or 128GB cards. Except I’m pretty sure the 3DS doesn’t support SDXC cards like mentioned above.

    • haha

Try using a PS Vita and you won’t complaint.

Sony’s memory card cost twice as much as a SD card.

    • SakuMo

NewEgg.com, people. I’ve seen listings for 16GB SD cards for as low as $10 there, 32 GB as low as $30. Amazon usually has decent prices, too. Stay away from physical stores for SD cards; they are ALWAYS overpriced.

    • the psvita is better

i dont think 64 GB cards exist yet, i think you mean 32 GB

It’s all part of the new SDXC format that will have capacity ranges from 64GB to 2TB. But they only sell up to 128GB for the time being.

    @aceofblades247
dude, stop spamming that crappy comment. if you cant give a logical reason for your statement, stop spamming everyones thing with it. if anything the digital would be identical to the cartridge, though would require to be saved to SD over system memory. theres no logical reason a developer would reduce content for a digital version unless its a demo, which this clearly isnt. with the new update both retail and digital could support download content too, so why would they REDUCE content? stop badly flaming and get a clue about how videogames design actually works so you can make a VALID argument before you start spreading crap about.

I sort of have to agree with AOB there ;)

And btw, @Zack- Um, special olympics? Dude, dont be sad. People dont choose how they are, I just saw on the news a girl that got food poisoning from eating KFC ridden with salmonella, and I nearly cried. She went into a coma and now cant really do anything herself. Disabilities are so extremely sad and so difficult to comprehend, so dont go on about stuff like that like its like the flu or something, You sir, disgust me.

It is obvious Ace doesn’t know what troll means.

As for his reason number 5… Several people already made it clear that memory is not an issue (Revelations demo was over 1 GB…) and since the price would be similar to the hard copy, why would they have less content? Not even SONY does this.

I HAVE MADE A FRIEKEN BIG MISTAKE IN MY COMMENT/REPLIES LOOK DOWN TO MY COMMENT ABOUT CONTENT!!!!!!!!

  • Sillstaw

I find it interesting that so many people are saying it’s a downside that you can’t lend a digital copy to a friend. Because that’s almost certainly the upside to Nintendo.

As for me? It depends, but I lean towards digital download because
    A: I have the space, and really, Amazon sells 16GB SD cards for less than $20 so you should make the upgrade, because 2GB is just not enough;
B: I don’t care about lending it to friends; if I want to show it to them, I can let them play it on my 3DS; and
C: It should have a backup on the eShop in case I ever feel the need to delete it. (Except for scores and stuff, in which case I could probably move it to another location first.)

  • Peter

    Ha!! Take that Sony!
That’s Nintendo’s answer to your Vita!!

    • Ty

Yep. Nintendo making ONE 3DS game available for digital download when ALL Vita games are available for digital download is a HUGE blow to Sony. They should have thought of it first. Leave it to Nintendo to one up Sony.

  • Ty

They also revealed that there will be vouchers for digital games available in stores, though there won’t be a set price. Stores will be able to set whatever price they want, meaning you might get really good deals on digital copies of games.

  • AlCoCeR

StarFox 64, Pilotwings resorts and Nintendogs would’ve been perfect for this!! I hope we get to buy them this way later on!!

  • Aaron

hmm if i buy the digital version, i dont have to bring more card around, but i cant sell it if i get bored.
i will buy the digital version if it was mario kart, because i won’t sell it.

digital games will be easier to patch for glitches etc.

  • http://Vagary.tv Magnus Risebro

If the digital release is day and date with the retail release, it’s a big step forward for Ninty.

  • Tom

AceOfBlades247, I’m here to debunk your ideal of a digital copy having less content than the physical copy. Have a seat, and grab a drink.

While New Super Mario Bros. Wii was a relatively lengthy game, if you took frequent breaks. Despite that, the game was actually only around 250 megabytes, put into a 4.7 gigabyte DVD.

From that, we can conclude that New Super Mario Bros. 2 should be around the same filesize, considering that you’re working with a smaller screen, and you don’t necessarily need to have higher quality character models to compensate. If they’re springing for content, I’d say the game would be around 350 megabytes, 400 megabytes tops.

That being said, The Resident Evil: Revelations demo was easily more than 1 gigabyte out of the supposed 2 gigabytes that one is allowed to publish on the eShop, so if anything, there should be virtually no difference content-wise between retail and digital versions of the game.

Instruction manuals are always built into 3DS titles, so you don’t need to worry about that.

And as always, you get your Club Nintendo points automatically from eShop titles, as long as you do their surveys.

    Your move, Ace.

    • Zack

Why is everyone attacking this guy? He said one opinion and he posted a lot of comments. Whether his opinion is wrong or not, he’s not doing any harm.

I don’t get it… Ace can go and spew his “opinion” but arguing it with facts is trolling? No one is attacking this guy. If you go and share your opinion you should also be ready to defend it. Unless of course, you’re just talking and saying things like Ace was for attention just because you can. In which case, who’s the troll here?

    • Tom

      Does that mean I won?

    • Lazorz

Ace, I don’t understand your logic at all. So you’re saying that it’s perfectly okay to spew out “Retail will have more content than Digital” on everyone’s posts, but when somebody argues with you and have facts to back it up, it means they’re a troll? Please explain this to me.

    • KING Z

      God doesn’t like arguments…

    • Tom

Give me one convincing counter-argument that would be a plausible reason why the physical copy would have more content than the digital copy, and I may let you leave this with your pride intact. c:

    • AceOfBlades247

      Ok, “Tom”

Price. It would be logical becuase, Would you spend $45 USD on a Digital game or would you spend $45 USD on the Game Card?

Memory. It would be logical becuase would you use up 2 Gb on a Mario game or would you buy the Game Card and not waste memory.

Content. Aplies the same as memory.

The Used market. It would die down and People would stay at home and download it there and would’nt go outside to buy more 3DS game if they’re all like that. No one would “Sell Used Games” Since they have Digital download.

Retailers. Gamestop, EB Games, etc. Would die down and possibly be closed.

Life would be good for Nintendo bad for Retailers that focuses on games. But they do have Xbox and Ps3 :p

    • AceOfBlades247

Ok, Here’s what. I’ll stop puting my opinions if everyone will stop attacking me. Dam, Can’t I get a break here.

    • http://www.csfgpapercraft.com/wp Seb

Conclusion : Wait when its released.

      And Reo’s

      Faces. :3

    • Pbsman

Ace, if that was true, the retailers would already be closed down, lets see theres steam, which the games there usually have more content than the hard copy, there’s PS3 and Xbox 360, which have downloadable retail games that have the same amount of content as the hard copy, so why the heck would Nintendo put less content?

    • AceOfBlades247

I HAVE MADE A FRIEKEN BIG MISTAKE IN MY COMMENT/REPLIES LOOK DOWN THERE FOR MY COMMENT ABOUT CONTENT

    • Tom

I’m back to kick a dead horse.

Price. When Skyrim came out, it was ~$60 on Steam. That didn’t deter me from buying it, though.

Memory. Like I said, NSMB is a very small game, and NSMB2 should probably be around 400-500 megabytes. When you have a 32gb SD card, you have about 32,000 megabytes to spare. It’s not really a matter of space, at that point.

Content. Applies the same as memory. Unless of course, you have DLC, which I’m sure there would be DLC for both versions of the game. Unless the DLC introduces new background pieces and character models, they should be very small; around 1-2 megabytes.

The Used Market. Not all games created for the Nintendo 3DS will be smaller than 2gb. The eShop apparently caps files allowed to be downloaded at 2gb, so there’s still hope for buying used physical copies for the games that take advantage of the larger capacity cards.

Retailers. False conclusion. There’s more than just 3DS games. Don’t forget about home consoles with all those physical discs. There’s been news that these retailers will soon sell redeemable download codes for said games, along with a complimentary use of their internet connection, for those unlucky few who lack the interwebs.

Let’s agree to disagree and wait for the game to actually come out. Hoho.

    • Tom

Also, when you say the physical copy has more content, you’re exactly saying that the digital copy will have less content, it’s just worded differently.

    • Reo

I dont even need to wait until it released.
he already admit that he was wrong.

we’ll i guess I’ll be the one who shove you ace. :p

    • AceOfBlades247

And what I mean is the digital one will have the regu

    • AceOfBlades247

Ok, When I mean the Game card will have more content I mean that the digital will have the regular story line it’s normal twist and stuff, and the Game card would havve and additional features and extras.

      Kingdom Hearts 2 Refence:
      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      Got It Memorized?
      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    • AceOfBlades247

Tom, Remember Sony copies what Nintendo does so they might end up doing the same and then Mircosoft will join in and then the retailers would die down…

    • Tom

I’m back once again to dig up the dead horse, and kick it some more.

What exactly does the copy being physical have anything to do with it having more content, now? The digital version could very well still have these additional features and extras you go on about.

Also, Sony copies the GOOD things Nintendo does. We’re not talking about children who simply “Monkey see, monkey do,” we’re talking about business executives and marketers who make decisions that would surely be beneficial for their company.

And allow me to reiterate on the part you didn’t read:

“Retailers. False conclusion. There’s more than just 3DS games. Don’t forget about home consoles with all those physical discs. There’s been news that these retailers will soon sell redeemable download codes for said games, along with a complimentary use of their internet connection, for those unlucky few who lack the interwebs.”

Anyways, it’s time to agree to disagree, unless you want me to get my Necronomicon of Debating. That horse has suffered enough.

    • Tom

And to top it all off, you still haven’t given me factual evidence why the physical copy should have more content than the digital copy.

      Just sayian’.

  • pierre

I would prefer a physical copy, but it become way too expensive with international shipping and stuff, not to mention that it takes between one and two months to get here. Maybe I’ll try the digital one this time.

    • Carlinhos

I hope games will be cheaper for people like me, who have to import them [or buy from third parties who imports them… That is, assuming digital copies will be available to every country.

Also, this allows games to be simultaneously released WORLDWIDE, elliminating the lag generated in the transportation of the product from USA to Brazil.

      Yay for digitalization!

    • 3ds

retail stores wouldn’t die out any way because not evry one would buy the digital copy of the games and maybe not every 3rd party games wouldn’t have digital versions of the games

  • Theo

    I just can’t take the 3DS seriously as a digital Distribution Unit:S.

    I’m getting retail.

you can`t put a downloadable game into your poo-hole.

    • Ness

      Maybe /you/ can’t…

    • Zack

I’ve never liked putting 3DS games up my poohole myself… The tab on the side always annoys me, and the ridges on the contacts really hurt. Ever try DS games? They’re better for beginners and your poo doesn’t get get stuck on that tab. Maybe one day you’ll work your way up to NES cartridges like me.

    • Zack

I almost forgot about my whole 3DS. I put it into my poohole every once in a while… Even the 3DS instruction manual mentions it. It says not to put it up your poohole, but just look at this guy, he’s lovin that thing. http://i48.tinypic.com/15gujgw.jpg

I think I’m still getting the retail copy, but there are some bonuses with the digital copy.

For a while now, I’ve always wanted Mario Kart on the road without it being a main game. Now I got it through the ambassador system and it’s awesome! Just imagine that feel with a FULL GAME!

The only thing that might be dragging me in is pre-order bonuses at Gamestop, I always go for those…

The only question I have about this is how long you could keep transfering the digital release of this game through every handheld systems.

    • DaveC

“The only question I have about this is how long you could keep transfering the digital release of this game through every handheld systems.”

That is up to Nintendo, they control the rights (DRM) with download stuff. You are at their mercy. It used to be that people hated restrictive DRM, but now they are convinced to love it just for a little convenience in the beginning. Damn Apple!

That is why I will stick with physical copies. I can use it where I want, when I want and on any system I want and I don’t need to ask anyone for permission to do it. And if I want to sell the game I can do that too.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheTEChguy27 TheTEChguy27

Sweet. I’ll probably still buy a retail version, though, since I’m still using that small 2 GB SD Card.

  • jjalepeno55

hopfully it doesnt take up like 4 gigs :P

    • Zack

I believe the max amount of data that can be put on a standard 3DS card is 2GB. But some game developers can use larger cards at a higher cost.

  • http://hybrilynx.net/ Hybrilynx

eshop version should be $10. 1. you cant sell it that way. 2. you cant share it that way. 3. digital (if you mean downloadable) games are almost free money. if my 3ds broke, or had to sell it and couldnt transfer the full 3ds’ data, theres no getting it back. and 4. like always theres no shipping, printing, etc etc to worry about.

    • KING Z

Um, The Person That Wants 2 Share It With U Can Get Off His/Her Lazy Ass & Download Or Buy It Him/Herself.

  • atall

It’s simple, if you want to buy the retail copies, then do it. I myself will get digital copies because the country I live in has abusive taxes over imports. I think digital copies are a big plus for people in the same situation as me.

    • Carlinhos

      Totally agree!

  • MM-Royalninja

This is very very good for people from South America!!!Over here we have to pay over $60.00!!!With this we can pay the US price !!! But I do prefer the fisical version….

  • Sothe

Yeay! If Nintendo starts doing this with more games, I won’t need to carry game cartridges around with me whenever I go somewhere!!!

  • Tecnical Knowledge

I own a 32 gig in my 3DS might get digital

    • http://hybrilynx.net/ Hybrilynx

i want one but even a 16 gb sd card make some suff on the 3ds very very slow. like downloading a game or a new nintendo video, video. it also takes maybe a minute for the 3ds sound to finish loading. then another if i choose a file like metroid oc remix music. but i do have thousands on songs though. its too bad the 3ds sound doesnt organize files properly. it just shows everything at once.

    • Zack

What are you talking about? You can create files on the SD card with music in them that 3DS Sound can recognize.

    • Zack

And why would card capacity make the 3DS slower? Maybe it’s just your card class. Gotta pay attention to those. 2 is kinda low and 10 is high.

    • AceOfBlades247

Get Sam’s Disk. That’s my brand

    • http://hybrilynx.net/ Hybrilynx

what i mean is, my sd card is organized well. the folders are like

3ds music > oc remix music > metroid oc remix > metroid prime oc remix > then the song.

the 3ds, shows every single file on my sd card that has music. so with the example above, the 3ds would show (metroid prime oc remix > then the songs). so thats probably a hundred files. becuz i have alota files and music. i would prefer if they just show 3ds music, then let me get the music i want by going through my organized files, at least.

and the sd card memory does make it slower with some things. when me and my brother first got nintendo video, i started downloading everything maybe 2 minutes before him. in the end, he was watching the videos before mine was even done downloading. he had a 2 gb sd card. mine, 16 gb.

    • Zack

You mean Sandisk? Yeah, those are my favorite too. The best name brand cards in my opinion. All my cards are Sandisk except for one that I found, one that I just got cuz it was cheap, and the one that came with the 3DS.

  • Sammy

    I would like a Kid Icarus:Uprising download.

    • 3ds

But u wouldn’t get the stand and the six ar cards

  • N_S

“NSMB2 will have a digital release-” Sweet! I can’t wait! “-for about the same price as the game card.” T_T

The eShop needs Steam-level sales, man. A game like Sakura Samurai shouldn’t cost over four dollars. Retail games on the eShop should be 2000 points at the very most, but it sounds more like 3500 to me.

  • JakinDaBox

What sucks is if you download it and you lose your 3DS then you lose the console and the game

I will probably get the physical, but it’s nice to see full retail games go digital.

I meant the game probally wont take up that much memory which might mean there isnt that much stuff in the game. This just my opinion

  • Classic Hyper Sonic The Hedgehog A.K.A Rc/AGES

As epic as this is, if I decide to buy it, it’s more than likely to be the retail version, mainly because a full 3DS game would take up A TON of SD card space. (Hell, just look at the demos.) However, if it is cheeper, then maybe… Also, it worries me that the e-shop version might have the multi-player removed, or worse: the game not having ANY mult-player at all.

  • Perry

I don’t think the game size will be big at all. Pushmo and the other eshop exclusives are pretty small.

  • Cevan

I think I may go ahead and try out the digital feature for NSMB2. It’ll be nice to have a retail game with me on my 3DS at all times.

  • Aguy

i don’t really care, but thanks for the info! anyways i would perfer the retail anyday!

I wonder how much it could cost on the eshop.

    • AceOfBlades247

Depends. I’m not going to out my opinion in.

    • http://nintendo3dsblog.com/photos-of-a-kid-icarus-uprising-float-in-japan Kaizar

It could be 75% of the retail price.

      MINT BERRY CRUNCH!

    • AceOfBlades247

Yea, Kaizar. That would be REALLY likely.

  • ZeldaCrazed

Why not make an eshop website where you can keep records of all the games you have bought so you can have them in multiple consoles like the 3DS and the inevitable remodel.

  • TheGZeus

Yeaaah… not sure what use this is in the age of Amazon.
I mention web commerce because the only use I could think of is somewhere that had no stores to buy them… and even then, if you don’t have those, your internet connection will likely be slow as molasses.

  • Matthew

This is great news and all, but AceofBlade is waaay too hyped.. I’ve seen like 50 comments from him.

    • AceOfBlades247

      Isn’t that awsome? (^-^)

  • AceOfBlades247

OH SHIZZ NOW I KNOW WHY PEOPLE ARE MAD AT ME I SAID THE DIGITAL WOULD HAVE LESS CONTENT I MENT THAT THE GAME CARD WILL HAVE MORE CONTENT.

Hello my fellow Nintendo fans I need prayers for my dad i found out from my aunt Leonie in Texas that my dad in Las Vegas had a stroke and is now unable to speak or walk and is no longer self aware. The stroke was caused by bleeding in his brain from a granite table falling on his head 4 days ago he did not seek medical attention and has been bleeding internally ever since which led to his stroke. Doctors say its not looking good for him and he may have 2 days left to live at just 46 years old. Hes the dad I never had but I love him any way and im not ready to let him go when we have so much lost time to make up for please pray for Joe Dion Craig my biological father to make it through this so he can recover and learn to talk and walk again.

Thank you all so much and God Bless

p.s. Always seek medical attention after a head injury because the risk can be deadly dangerous

    • 3ds is awesome!!!!

      Hope your dad gets better.
My best wishes are with him, good luck

  • 3ds is awesome!!!!

Wait a second, then that means we could have 2 games on us at a time right? like if I get This game digital and another physical game in the card slot. Imagine they do this with super smash bros! Can’t wait!

    Pros and Cons:

    Digital Pros:
    You can’t lose your game

    Digital Cons:
It takes up space on your SD card/System Memory

    Phisical Pros:
There is a pleasure of putting the box on your shelf (or something)

If your game card is not inserted, and your 3DS gets stolen, you still have the game

    Phisical Cons:
It will stop working when the reading strip gets messed up enough.

Personally, I’m getting phisical. What do you guys think? Do you have any more pros or cons?

    • Joshua

      Reading Strip?

    • AM

      @Johua

Yeah the reading strip is those metal contacts and overtime they start getting dust in between them or wear out.

One other negative I think of when buying digital is that Nintendo does not have (yet) have a service on the 3DS where games are tied to an account and not a system, which means if something happens to the system you have to go through the trouble of contacting Nintendo. I do not know why Nintendo does not have this system implimented because their Club Nintendo service keeps track of all games I download, so why can they not tie the eShop to that in order to repurchase stuff.

downloaded games are worthless cant sell trade or borrow. you better off throwing you money in a fire

  • Ed Mozart

For me a digital copy will be awesome because a retail release is US$65-70 or more in my country due expensive taxes, and digital copies haven’t taxes.

  • crazze

sound good but i would rather get the box version to keep some of the value of my purchased games. downloaded games are worthless can’t sell or trade

  • 3DSFan777

Why are people saying more content on the actual cartridge

All of you don’t know so just STFU and just wait for the game to come out
Why will the cartridge version have more content tell me why

And can’t wait for this to come out wooo!!!

  • rawr

omg Finally downloadable 3ds games! about damn time.

  • 3daisawesome!

    Hi.

I may be wrong about this, but probably they would try to keep the game in a small gb cuz they don’t want games to take up too much space. For example, if the digital and retail games costed the same, the digital would still be more expensive cuz the games would be on the sd and people would have to constantly have to get more sd cards.

Now, nothing has been announced yet about the amount of space, the price, and content that the digital version has, so we will have to wait for more news about the game.

  • 3daisawesome!

Sorry this post was supposed to be for 3dsfan77

  • 3daisawesome!

    Wait, off topic question?

Up to how many gb sd card can 3ds support? And up to what class? Example, class 10?

And I don’t get this part, if I download something on the sd card and I take out the sd, would everything I got on the card still be on the system without the card, cuz I don’t want to carry more than 1 sd card with me….

    • Tom

      32gb class 10.

The class 10 is debatable, though. I don’t see much of an improvement over a class 4 32gb card.

    • My name is NOT Earl

About space I didnt knew until now, and if you take de sd card off whatever is saved on it won’t be on the 3ds, only whats on de console.

  • George

    *insert negative opinion here*
If I say my real opinion, then I’ll probably end up like AceOfBlades.

  • Sonic2011

I know this is off subject, but is there any news on Animal Crossing 3D? I was wondering because that May 2 holding date is almost here.

    • Theo

A lot of people started putting things up their poo-hole, I’d check there for the news…must’ve been crammed up there during the haste.

      =)

  • 3ds

I’m getting both digital and retail virsions most likely because I have 3ds and my little brother is geting a 3ds so we would have the digital and retail virsions so I’m good
