The internet has already erupted with all sorts of emotions, so I’m a little late with writing this one, but it’s true: at some point in the nearish future, there will be no more Nintendo Power. The editors and other staff members will be moved to other properties managed by Future Publishing, and the 475,000 monthly readership will have to find a new place to direct their information-hungry eyeballs.
You might be wondering, “Why?” Well, this could tie-in with the general decline of print media that we’re experiencing at the moment. The world is becoming increasingly digital and many magazines are struggling to survive as a result. But what we also know is that Nintendo was not interested in renewing the contract to support the magazine and apparently, just in general, they have been “difficult to work with”.
There is hope that the magazine will continue in a digital form, but that sounds more like a slight-possibility, rather than something we should be counting on. Either way, people are sharing their support for the magazine with the #KeepNintendoPower hashtag on Twitter, so that’s at least one way you can contribute.
