“There are no plans in the near future for new models” of the 3DS, says Iwata

The 3DS XL launches at the end of next month and Satoru Iwata has made it clear that “there are no plans in the near future for new models” of the system. Of course, we’ve heard similar things before, and we didn’t expect to see a 3DS XL so soon. But he said that “the 3DS XL was the result of there being great need for a large screen”, implying that there’s no other sort of tweak that would be classified as a “great need”.

      Watch them put one on a later iteration of the 3DS 2 years from now, and people complain saying “I barely use the circle pad for any of the games I am using, why put it there if you don’t make games that use it?”

      Huge demand from consumers but not developers. which consumer’s won’t really need in the long run and developer’s not really requiring it for their games. i played MH3G without the 2nd circle pad and it feels fine much like on the PSP. Same goes for RE:Rev and MGS3D

      Well if there will be a next 3DS in a year or two I doubt they would still be putting a 2nd stick on it. In a sense that’ll be alienating the consumers who already has a 3DS. And for all those years without a game that actually needs it why would they put a 2nd one now.

      But who knows. When the DSi/DSi XL was released it was a really significant leap from the DSlite. With the new interface and the cameras and all. So we can only wait and see.

      consumers are important you retard, without consumers, there will be no demand for games that use circle pads. why would the developers make a game that use it if there are no demands as well as support from consumers and fans.

      Tobi, it’s because it’s there that they would. Developers tend to look at the device and think “what can I do to make the most out of this systems capabilities? It has a second analog stick? Let’s make it useful.”

    thats stupid. i was hoping for a better one. one where i at least dont need to use sd cards for something that should be in the built in memory. like 3dsware, flipnote, overall everything.

      lol dude, SD cards are the cheapest memory cards out there, you can get the largest SD memory they have and it’d cost ya like 40, even better, you can just purchase mini-SD cards, those are way way cheaper.

      @Ricardo Most mini SD cards come with an SD adapter card that makes it look like a regular SD card. So yeah it will fit in your 3DS.

      yes and once when the sd card breaks, maybe when you use it for a computer or cell phone too, all your crap gets lost. i think all your streetpass stuff too. pretty much everything. even pictures. all your 3dsware saved data. the built in memory should have at least been 4GB. i hope they wont make that mistake on the wii u too. afterall, xbox 360′s, at least mine, had 120GB free built in memory. i cant imagine why the wii didnt even had 1.

      You are delusional if you think the 360 has 120 GB of free internal memory, LOL. The new slims have 4 GB of internal memory, with a slot to expand the memory with purchasable hard drives. Even the 250 GB model they sell is just a 4 GB model with a 250 GB hard drive plugged in the slot. Older models didn’t even have 1 GB of internal storage (512 MB to be exact). As for the actual thought on internal memory, I also disagree, because I like the freedom of having as little or as much hard drive space as I want. And, as was mentioned, SD cards are cheap as eff. I got a 16 GB for my 3DS for $20 online, and I’ve seen them on sale for even cheaper. Hardly an issue. Having SD cards as the storage option gives the consumer the choice to have the right amount of storage they need without breaking the bank. And if you’re worried about losing data, back it up on your computer. You can do that, you know. ;D

      well i just know my brother has like 80+ trail games, he downloaded the game where its mortal combat vs the people like superman, we have some dlc too like all but 1 on cod black ops, and the memory we have left is way not full at all. it sure feels infinite. it was a elite version if it matters. but all these names and not caring i always just say xbox and thats it. and our wii doesnt have much on it and the built in memory ran out ages ago.

      ^You probably had a 120 GB external hard drive. It attaches to the end of the system, and you definitely had to pay extra for that; it was most definitely not free. c; Elite is still the old model, incidentally.

    Good, as long as they make one that does not have the ridiculous second circle pad, then I’m all good, because I don’t feel like its such a necessity that it requires that second-pad, not at all, but if they release one WITH the second-pad then I have to drop more money for and I don’t want that.

    I think by another model he means something like a 3DSi with extra features. I do not mind the 3DS XL (although I am not going to get one because I want to carry my 3DS in my pocket). I think the 3DS XL is just another option for people who want a larger screen, there is no other function on it that would mean people with a regular 3DS would miss anything.

    I just hope Nintendo does not release a 3DS with extra functions, and instead puts those extra functions into the 3DS’s true successor.
