Satoru Iwata shared the above chart in an investor meeting, also mentioning that:
…at the end of last year which reported that the total unit sales of the Nintendo 3DS reached four million faster than the Nintendo DS or the Wii. However, at that time, this pace was not the fastest in Japan’s video game history, since it was slower than that of the Game Boy Advance. But, the Nintendo 3DS did not lose its momentum even after the new year, and two weeks ago it broke the record of the fastest sales pace.
And I’m assuming we can stop saying the 3DS is doomed. It seems to be doing quite well.

I bet they’re using the pokemon game just in case there is a huge gap of first party software. Kind of like a back-up, since pokemon is guaranteed to be bought.
i would be at the midnight launch for that…. we need to see the next pokemon not for the ds .. for the 3DS …it just makes me happy thinking about it

I’m willing to bet Generation III remakes are being worked on for 3DS… DS wouldn’t give it much of a visual boost but 3DS would hugely do so and Nintendo love to utilize the “3″ thing in reference to the console, so Gen III(3) would work and it would sell massively. I never played Gen III, I was out of the Pokemon loop for that 5 years so I look forward to that, which I’m sure will happen. I’d rather have that happen before the 3rd game of the current generation… then there will be an even bigger explosion when THAT GAME finally comes out, after waiting so long.
wheres the xbox sales? my main gaming is only on a xbox. the 3ds only serves my music needs.
??? Why would you ever get a 3Ds and use if for music!? Ipod has much better sound. (I have a 3ds and an ipod nano)
I used to have an iPod Nano (2nd gen)…Then an update rolled around early 2009 and broke the iPod’s connection to iTunes…And I had gotten it it as a Christmas present in 2008…

That is a chart of Japanese sales, there are probably 10 individual Microsoft products in that entire country, so yeah…
xbox is virtually non-existent in Japan
theres not really anything to do on a 3ds besides just use it for music. or at least if your me. becuz the only thing i want, is intense-like online gaming. or just metroid prime hunters 3ds if that will ever exist. or very specific random games that i just all of a sudden like, like pikmin, excitebots, and sonic riders.
Yet they just said that the 3DS was losin’ money. Geez, why don’t they make up their minds, already?
Technically each 3ds now sells for a loss of around 10-20USD as they gained profit of about 90USD before the price drop. It’s still a ton easier to counter than the PSV’s whopping 70USD loss per handheld at 250-300USD per system.
To clarify:
Before the price drop, Nintendo earned money per unit sold.
Now, after the price drop, Nintendo loses (a little) money per unit sold. Picking up, say, Mario Kart “makes up” for that.
Likewise, Nintendo has reported losses recently, but so has Sony (and maybe MS, but I haven’t heard much about it) because of the state of the Yen in Japan. It’s a bigger deal for Nintendo because they are specifically Japan-based, and the other two can lean on other divisions.
My economic skills are really rudimentary, but I think that summarizes the state of things.

Well before it’s release Sony themselves stated that they had no intention of making profit on the Vita for at least 2 years after it’s release, which coincides with loss. Rumors have since sprang up over production costs with some saying that they lose about 50USD per unit sold while others say a breakdown of the system shows components costing only 160USD.
And what did I say? In about 4 months after the price drop Nintendo will have fixed the problem that third parties started at release.

bad news indeed. I wonder why they lowered the 3ds by so much though $189.99 would be a good drop. desperate times call for desperate measures i guess.
but im not too worried though mainly because PS, and MS arnt sitting pretty either im pretty sure next gen 1 of these 3 will be done with gaming industry.
those losses aren’t Nintendos fault- again people should learn about te Yen currency issue going on in JP right now.

2. most parents buy 3DS for their kids, just like DS
Christmas i saw parents buying 3DS and asking for games like mario, nintendogs.
As an adult with a 3DS, this begins to get tiring. Yes, kids love Nintendo. But so do millions of adults. There’s plenty of quality titles for everyone on the 3DS, not just for kids.

Just wait till a proper Pokemon RPG game comes out, then even Apple will shut-up about how the iPod Touch is an awesome gaming device. Sales of the 3DS and the Pokemon game will be through the roof. I am going to get 5 copies of the first proper Pokemon game for the 3DS to spread the love. I would love for Nintendo to make a game with all the regions so far and include all the Pokemon so far. Kanto/Johto/Hoenn/Sinnoh/Unova. THAT WOULD BE AWESOME. (and also feature all the villains teamed up as one)
That is a good idea but i think they would save when the sad end of pokemon which really doesn’t look like it ever coming but feel free to prove me wrong nintendo :D
It seems that after the Christmas week Vita sales dropped around 78% and haven’t picked up since with Sony having no comment on the matter. Now some people are claiming it’s doomed, what say you?

Sony fanboys can’t say that the 3DS sold like crap. BECAUSE; the Vita sold right at 300,000 in three weeks.. and that was during the holidays. And the 3DS sold OVER 300,000 units in 9 days and that was in the middle of spring. So the 3DS really didn’t do badly, it just didn’t do AMAZINGLY.
