Jens Andersson, the creator of Colors! 3D (which is available on the 3DS via the eShop), has said that the reception for the application has been “phenomenal” and that “sales seem to be doing well”. As a a result, he hopes that they “can do an update that adds a few things that didn’t make it into the original version.”

As for what that update might include:

We would love to add more ways to browse the gallery, like having followers as well as adding a robust challenge system that people can participate in directly from the device.

But, Andersson is careful not to make too many promises and, “in the end, the community will have to help us decide what is most important, because it’s them that makes it possible for us to be here in the first place.”

  • Ispheria

mm i hope they let you like, paint not in a circle, like, in a moving line, more like what real life would be. at least, the brushes i use are more liney than circles. and

    • Ispheria

nvm, no and. i’m fine with the rest of it.

  • dubYA

    Excellent news!

  • Deej

The only thing I could ask for is a blend/smudge tool. Otherwise I feel just as comfortable with this as with photoshop. It’s ridiculously good.

  • http://hybrilynx.net/ Hybrilynx

im sick of seeing naked people in the gallery… if its “art”, im tired of people using the word “art” as an excuse. otherwise seeing organs and brutal torture can just be “art”.

    • viridi

      lol

    • http://hybrilynx.net/ Hybrilynx

im serious, though. some people upload naked furries. its not avoidable. this really shouldnt have been rated E. at least T but i would say M. since, you cant get banned or anything for this. and the worst that can happen is having maybe 20+ people click some 18+ button, only on the internet browser, to hide the image after so many people just saw it. its annoying.

    • random brony

u mad bro? Little kids see everyday a lot of porn in google. So i dont see the problem w/ the colors! gallery. nuff’ said

    • revolution5268

online is not rated keep in mind.

    • http://hybrilynx.net/ Hybrilynx

well i guess nintendo would support the same stuff for flinote memo no problem at all.

    • son

“and the worst that can happen is having maybe 20+ people click some 18+ button, only on the internet browser, to hide the image after so many people just saw it”

Is that really a problem? I don’t think so. The real world is out there and there’s not a thing that censors the world in realtime so kids don’t see things that it is supposed they shouldn’t see. In fact, I don’t think that censoring is the answer to turn kids into better persons, it’s just the answer of lazy irresponsible parents that think that taking some time to actually teach their kids is too much a drag.

    • http://Nintendoworlds.net TurboPikachu

      @Hybrilynx:

Why’d you include furries in your post about nudity? It’s not like yiff is any different than porn. Nudity is nudity, and it was unnecessary for you to have included that…

BTW, you must be 18 or something. I’m not able to see any of this stuff, and it’s probably because I’m still 17 for another 4 days…

    • random brony

      @TurboPikachu

i agree with you. Yiff isnt the only thing you find in internet. I can see that Hybrilynx hate furries. You should stop hating a thing that doesnt hurt you, lol.

About flipnote memo, nintendo will be very carefully about porn, but the Colors! gallery isn’t moderated by nintendo, its an 3rd party game, not a nintendo game.

    • http://hybrilynx.net/ Hybrilynx

pikachu, pika pika pika pi pika pi pi pika pi pika pika pi pi. or if you really arent pikachu, the moment you upload an image, its counted as a image for anyone to see. it doesnt go away until viewers, or the one who uploaded it, marks it as 18+ in a internet browser. you cant do this on colors 3d. you have to stop what your doing, go on the colors website, log in, find the picture, then click some button. and maybe 10 people have to do this. also, i mentioned furries just becuz. furries are something common so i didnt see it as anything different then talking normally.

    • http://Nintendoworlds.net TurboPikachu

But in all seriousness, this really is something that really needs to be better filtered out to prevent childrens’ exposure.

      @Hybrilynx

18+ art may not appeal to you, and heck, I almost agree that it’s not even art… But there are many that seek it, and I feel that as long as they are adults, they should be able to see it; it’s as simple as that. But I also feel for you: There really should be an option for people over 18 to block 18+ art from appearing to them…

    • theoneandonly

There isn’t much nude paintings I see on Colors! 3D, but there are quite a few that are suggestive. These drawings should be addressed immediately, or at least add some sort of filter to prevent younger children from having access to these drawings.

    • http://Nintendoworlds.net TurboPikachu

      *Update*

I’m not yet able to see 18+ art, but on innocent pics of cute girls, I have indeed read comments in which people have drawn NSFW pics and posted to the gallery.

    • http://Nintendoworlds.net TurboPikachu

      *UPDATE 2*

      @Hybrilynx:

Ah, there…. I’m went to the site, logged out of my profile, and there was a pic of Zero-suit-Samus, a bare breast showing. X3

It really is a very serious problem for children, and such content should not be visible to people without an account, or ones with an account who are under 18…

But this won’t be a problem for me, as I’m turning 18 this week. I guess I’ll be greeted by alot of yiff this Thursday on the gallery~ XD

    • http://Nintendoworlds.net TurboPikachu

Oh the irony…. Now I’m seeing the newly posted NSFW pics on my 3DS… which apparently have not been marked 18+ yet. rofl

    • http://hybrilynx.net/ Hybrilynx

age isnt anything. im 22 and i dont want to see that garbage. and yes, it happens pretty often.

    • japzone

You do realize that it gives a warning before you go into the Gallery.

  • daniel bryan

I’m John Morrison and you are
      AAAAWWWWFFFFUUUULLLLLL!!!

  • the psvita is better

well it is a great app after all
you can use it casually for fun or actually make something professional
    its just awesome

    • haha

How can anyone use this professionally?

You obviously don’t use iPhone or iPad. There are dozens painting apps better than this colours thingy. 3DS is not made for running apps with that low res screen

    • the psvita is better

dude have you seen what they can achieve in that app?
how can you think you can actually paint better using your finger instead of an actual stylus.
even with the resolution, drawings look good and they are in 3ds also
the 3ds is made for running apps like that, i dont know what you are talking about

    • http://passid.ca/8bit Ian

      @haha

obviously NO ONE will use an app professionally, they use professional computer software for that (duh!) It’s nothing more than a portable digital sketchbook which there aren’t many off at that size.

    • haha

The new iPad has a screen resolution higher than most desktop/laptop screen, and you don’t need fingers to paint, there are stylus for it.

Even Wacom makes stylus for iPad.

    • http://passid.ca/8bit Ian

      @haha

Well yes, I would imaging the much more expensive, larger, and higher quality product to have a better screen resolution. It still doesn’t matter my friends have the exact same thing you’re talking about and it is STILL just sketchbook, when they need work done they go to Photoshop or Illustrator.

    • AM

      @haha

I have a stylus for my iPad, and it has a nice sharp, but it is still useless compared to a tablet connected to my mac. The iPhone with its tiny screen is also useless for drawing on professionally. Moreover, Colors! 3D is not meant for pro users, it is meant for people who casually like to sketch stuff on the go, and it does a pretty good job at that.

    • http://Nintendoworlds.net TurboPikachu

      Colors! 3D images aren’t low res though…

Though the 3DS’s top screen is only 400/800×240, and bottom screen 320×240, Colors! 3D can output up to 1600×960… So obviously, some of you guys haven’t used Colors! 3D.

    • Ryuji

Are people seriously trying to compare the 3DS with an iPad…? Even 3DS vs. iPhone is pretty stupid.

Completely different devices. Completely different price points.

  • adrian12369

i really want this but i’m saving up for HofR and KH:3D. it sorta makes me regret getting rolling western cus i stopped playing it after a couple of hours

    • the psvita is better

to be fair i did too
i didnt find it that entertaining

  • Tails the Foxhound

Nice to see that an indie dev can make game and not suddenly think he’s God’s gift to gaming. Colors is truly fantastic looking, it has jumped to the top of my ever growing must buy list for eShop games.

  • revolution5268

SEE give Nintendo fans some good quality game and you’ll earn some new consumers.Unlike some 3rd party companies.
    Anyone else agree?

    • Co-Wink-KEy-Dink inc

      This is third party.

    • revolution5268

no i mean some 3rd party act lazy on nintendo console, look at this company’s game(yes i know it 3rd party), they work hard and people like it like crazy, even there creators like it too.

  • revolution5268

    wii u version anyone?

    • ZeldaCrazed

This should be guaranteed, not merely considered.

    • japzone

Now that makes sense. There were things like the uDraw tablet for Wii and X360 but I always find it hard to Draw using an external Tablet. I need the Touch Input to be Overlayed on the Screen so it’s like Drawing on Paper. Otherwise anything I make looks like crap. The most I can manage using a Touch Pad is editing pictures in Photoshop.

The WiiU’s controller would be absolutely perfect for a Drawing app. The Big Touchscreen on the controller would work great for Painting and then the TV can be used to show you a Good Big overall look at your Masterpiece. The buttons on the Controller can be used for Tool Switching and other such needs and any thing like Color Selection can just be overlayed on the Touch Screen for precise color choosing. I invision plenty of people wanting something like that if they had a WiiU. Make it reasonably cheap($10-$15) and you would sell more copies then you’d imagine.

  • Aaron

i hope they fix the video color when you watch it via website, its really off

    • Ispheria

also when you’re painting if you go to the bottom and stuff, on mine the color gets all weird. its annoying, true that they should fix the color thing.

  • djsound

My eShop is broken or it isn’t available in Europe (Poland) yet? :/

    • Nipsu

It’ll come to Europe and Australia on April 19. :D

    • sam3ds

yeah, ive been wondering when we get it. Im still waiting for mutant mudds (Australia)

  • Raven The Great!

    I want pressure sensitivity :\
The orig. ds had it, why not the 3ds!?

    • japzone

Yep, only real advantage to using the Colors! Homebrew app for DS. If you use it on a DS Original you get pressure sensitive drawing.

  • Natto1995

Iv’e got good updates for ya! How about more mii maker features and more friend list people to add about 200 and other things that other people want :P

    • revolution5268

that should be for wii u.

  • http://en.gravatar.com/TheTEChguy27 TheTEChguy27

I’m really interested in buying this game, even though I can’t draw for crap.

  • caspar

    Has it arrived in europe

It really isn’t the great imo.
Art Academy is much better for painting.

  • http://fixedillusion.com Mayker

They better have an update. My paintings won’t save properly.

  • tundiam

another cool app that we have to wait 2/3 weeks to beofore we get on our E-shop, this Thursday we get it anyway

  • Glenn Gilden

This is a great title for 3ds. I waited eagerly for it and my hopes were not disapointed. Even if you can’t achieve the same resolution on the 3ds (by the way some of the paintings are so incredible not sure if resolution matters!) it’s in glasses free 5 layer 3-D people! It adds a new depth to creativity, pun intended. New features: Better way to organize favorite painters, paintings. The nudey paintings don’t bother me any more than a can of chicken of the sea tuna which is not at all but I do agree should be better censoring. Painting mini- games? maybe a paint bucket filler tool. A pixel by pixel zoom 800%? This app is truly helping me get better at drawing, great job developers and great job with the community comments. Some comments for paintings are hilarious.

    • Glenn Gilden

      Cut and Paste?

    • japzone

Yeah, I could always go for Cut&Paste. I wish the Web Browser had Cut&Paste too.

  • Gir

    YAY
