The president of Camelot wants to make a sequel to Donkey Kong 64

Hiroyuki Takahashi of Camelot has said in the July issue of Nintendo Gamer that is interested in working on a Donkey Kong title. He believes the process “would prove really interesting” because the “games are full of surprises”. Then, in what really made me hopeful that something will come of these words one day, he said that he “would love to make a sequel” for Donkey Kong 64, which happens to be my favourite game (ever).

Of course, for now, they’re just words. But come on, Nintendo, make it happen! (And while there was no mention of the 3DS, I assume it would be the perfect game to play with the use of the 3D effects.)

      The could do what they’re doing with Super Smash Bros., make a version for both platforms that interact with one another. I would like them to have the Wii U version to have an entirely 3D world once again just like DK64 and a 2D or 2.5D layout for the 3DS version (ah hell, give me a sequel to DK Country or DK Land like @ShaDow mentioned).

    Dk64 took the idea of collecting to an incredibly obnoxious extreme…..and with absolutely no charm. collecting different sets of bananas for each character is just tedious, it’s like the developers are saying….”I wonder of we can actually get people to waste time doing this”

    Oh give me a break. I’m soooo sick of remakes and above all, I’m sick of all these mario games and n64 remakes that they are making. The 3ds library is suffering. Why not make the games that core and casual gamers can enjoy, like metroid, or starfox? Don’t waste time with this, and make something the community REALLY wants! like an a competitive metroid fps or something. Or just make something brand new, or something we haven’t seen in awhile.

      The keyword here is sequel, not remake.
      And honestly, the thought of a competitive FPS Metroid is just an awful idea that should never even be placed into a statement involving “games that should be made” or anything along those lines.

      Multiplayer Metroid where you play as GFS soldiers. I’d play that. Or even better, class based multiplayer Metroid classes include GFS soldier, Zebesian cyborg, Space Pirate, Luminoth warrior, and whatever species the other 5 hunters were in Prime: Hunters.

      I guess I’m one of those wacky people who enjoys remakes and ports, especially for games I loved and still love. I say bring on the remakes, the more, the merrier!

    I think a Donkey Kong 64 sequel would work best on the Wii U. If done right, it could look beautiful. For 3DS, they should do a Donkey Kong 64 3D or another DK side-scroller.

    I’m right there with you David; DK64 is definitely one of my favorite games. I was actually just playing it last night.

    This news is really interesting(and slightly exciting), though i’m pretty curious to see how Camelot handles this genre coming from the Golden Sun series.
    To be honest I am slightly disappointed, however. About a year ago I remember seeing an article about how Camelot used the Breath Of Fire series as their main source of inspiration for the Golden Sun series, and that they would love to continue the BoF series themselves. Since Capcom hasn’t made a sixth one(and pretty much stated they won’t), i’d love to see Camelot make it.

      Ahh, I need to finish that game! The game had a lot of dialogue to it, which made me lose focus after awhile.

      Now that I think about it, seeing as Camelot is pretty good at making RPGs I would like to see a Donkey Kong RPG. I’m looking at it more as a Super Mario RPG-type game where it lacks a serious tone rather than their Golden Sun RPGs.

      ‘even’ as ‘turning off’ my 3ds power. but i guess that wouldnt make sense for some people. i meant what i said as turning off the 3d, and turning off my 3ds. and i can turn off the 3d i dont see why not. i keep it off becuz it hurts my eyes. i still dont know for sure yet, but for now, i think it hurts peoples eyes if they wear glasses. i mean i do, and it hurts. you know after awhile or high 3d mode. but anyway just tossing that info in.

    This game was my childhood and I’ve been waiting for years for a sequel, and thought it was too late, since Microsoft bought RARE.

    They should make this for the Wii U, not for the 3DS. If you guys want a 3DS Donkey Kong game, it should be Donkey Kong Land *Returns* (Just in case, don’t get confused, the Donkey Kong Land series is from the Gameboy).

    Please make this, Camelot, don’t fuck this up!

    I’m not trolling here, but DK64 is one of the worst games on the N64. I do not get the love it recieves. Makes me wonder if people have actually played the game. The SNES trilogy is awesome. Everything went downhill after that. In fact I just downloaded the OST for those games yesterday, but I digress.

    A complete reboot could be awesome though. I’m thinking Assassin’s Creed meets Donkey Kong Country. It wouldn’t be that hard to pull off.

      I know you’re not trolling but the reason so many people love it is because it’s a little like Super Mario 64 only all the worlds are connected to each other, so it feels like you’re really on an adventure and they’ve set you free to uncover all the secrets of the land. Basically it’s the same reason people love Banjo Kazooie, also made by Rare.

      To be fair I never played it when it was released. I’ve only recently [say around 5 years ago 0_O] played it via emulation so maybe I’m not looking at things in context. I can definitely see the potential in a re-boot of the series though and Co-Wink-Key-Dink inc. I meant taking some of acrobatic elements from Assassin’s Creed/Mirror’s Edge then mix in a bit of a Tarzan influence and well known DK characters and I think it would be pretty damn good and sell like hot cakes to boot. Maybe a ‘combo swing’ system could be implemented too when you traverse through jungles and what not. Use your imagination! -__-

    DK64 is literally my favourite game of all time, yes, that’s right, even over OoT! DK64 is what taught me to game when I was 6. The colours, the combat, the characters, it was like nothing I had ever seen.

    It would be cool if it had 4 player battle modes like on the 64. I would love to see that. I think that I want a remake, then a sequel to the game. That way Nintendo can have them be recent, and not 13 years apart. I want it on 3DS so it can be portable.

    One update that really needs to be implemented if it could somehow is an on-screen meter for volume so my OCDness doesn’t make me jam the slider anymore than I should. :S

    I would LOVE to see this happen! But I do think that maybe it should be on Wii U, imagine all the stuff they could throw in there! All the content! Every time I play DK 64, I literally forget just how BIG that game is! Didn’t they release a memory thing for that game since it is so big? I would really like to see DK Country 4 on 3DS.

      Oh man if they announced DKC4 for the 3DS I would eat a hundred bananas in anticipation. If they do I hope they look at Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2. That’s what DKCR should have been comparable to, but it looks plain and the plot is pretty lame. Where’s K.Rool? Where are the Kremlings? The voodoo crap didn’t fly. Anyway, I’d love the original trilogy as a updated 3D Classic Trilogy! That would be a dream come true.

    Yes!! I was just telling my friends how there are no open-world-get-stars-or-dick-around games anymore! (SMG and SMG2 were sort of linear…) The multiplayer was fantastic in DK64 also. Plus, it’d be nice to see the kremlings as antagonists again
