Shifting World is a puzzle platformer coming to the 3DS. It has been confirmed there will be sixty levels in the game, spread across three modes: Adventure, Bonus, and Time Attack. You will also be able to make custom levels by using a level editor or through a system that generates levels by taking pictures of DataMatrix bar codes with the 3DS cameras. The game is set to launch in 2012 and you can check after the break for the first official screenshots and box art.

The concept is cool but I hope it doesn’t run for $40. To me, puzzle games of this type aren’t worth that price. The demo is fun though.

  • esespark

    looks alright:)

  • Holonboy

It seems like this game should be 3DSWare, but it’s still nice to have “Aksys” and “3DS” on one box in the store.

I’ll probably be picking up this game but not at launch.

Where did you get the demo?

Am I the only one who thinks this looks like “Shift” or “Shift 2″ for the iPhone?

    • Free of Birth

It probably does look like Shift 1 and/or 2. Dont you think?

    • Calztchi

it’s based on those games, and is being co-deveoped by the same people who made the Flash/iOS games (armor games).

  • rattle

It should be released on the eshop instead.

  • Mr. Paper

It reminds me of the iOS game “Shift”.

If this was 3DSWare, I would buy it the first day. Unfortunately, it’ll have to wait if it comes out the same time as another huge game.

Is it just me, or is the 3DS a system where almost all indie games are coming on?

    • Jonathan

Well, it is very easy to develop for, on top of the fact that games made can take advantage of the 3D effect. :)

Nintendo systems have always been the easiest to develop games for. Just look at the SNES. Despite the fact that it was technologically advanced for its time in comparison to other consoles, the SNES was also easier to develop for, giving way to the largest and most robust library of games from third-parties that Nintendo has ever had before.

The Nintendo 3DS/Wii U are both marketing to not only consumers, but also developers, in a similar fashion. Both systems sport the names of their predecessors, much like the NES/SNES and GB/GBA did in their specific generations.

For these reasons, the Nintendo 3DS/Wii U generation could possibly have the strongest lineup of third-party games than ever before in Nintendo’s history. Mind you, that’s not even factoring the wealth of first-party games both systems are also promised to have. It seems as if Iwata-san’s dreams are coming true at last when he stated that both systems would receive a continuous lineup of software! :D

I believe this is inspired by a flash game. Don’t remember what it’s called, though.
