Theatrhythm Final Fantasy has leaped from the 3DS to iOS. The game can be downloaded for free (find it here), but songs are available as in-app purchases. It’s unfortunate that making this leap appears to be so easy for developers though, since it suggests the advantages of the 3DS might not be that dramatic. Am I reading too far into this? Or, if not, how could Nintendo make the 3DS more compelling for exclusives?

Edit: One big disadvantage of the iOS version is the cost of the additional content, so at least in this case, the 3DS version seems to be the best option for people who want the full experience.

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy has launched in North America and Square Enix has revealed the first batch of DLC songs for the game, including:

  • “Battle Theme 1″ from Final Fantasy II
  • “The Final Battle” from Final Fantasy IV
  • “Fighters of the Crystal” from Final Fantasy XI
  • “Fighting Fate” from Final Fantasy XIII
  • “In Search of Light” from Final Fantasy V
  • “Cosmo Canyon” from Final Fantasy VII
  • “Ride On” from Final Fantasy VIII
  • “A Fleeting Dream” from Final Fantasy X

The songs will cost $0.99 each. You can check after the break for a launch trailer from the game.

Square Enix has confirmed they will be releasing downloadable songs for Theatrhythm Final Fantasy when the game launches in North America. They didn’t get into specifics like a date or price for the DLC, but the content is coming.

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy has a special mode called the Chaos Shrine that can be unlocked by using the Rhythmia you earn from clearing songs. In this mode, you play randomly generated remixed songs called “Dark Notes” that can then be shared through a local wireless or StreetPass. The Chaos Shrine also allows you to unlock new characters, find rare items, and play new songs. Check after the break for screenshots.
