SEGA announced Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed for the 3DS a long while ago, but it was the console versions of the game that got all the attention. That’s no longer the case though. We saw some footage a few days ago, there’s screenshots after the break, and we have an official release date:
The game is already available at some retail locations, but I imagine it’ll be easier to find after those dates.

SEGA has confirmed that Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed will arrive in Europe on November 16th. No date has been announced for North America and Australia so far though. There’s also the reveal of the box art — above — and a new trailer, found after the break.
Update: The game will arrived in North America on November 20th.

SEGA has confirmed through Summer of Sonic 2012 that there will be NiGHTS-themed cars within Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed, along with a track within the same theme. There are (really blurry) screenshots after the break.

SEGA has revealed that they will make a big announcement about Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed tomorrow at E3. The announcement will take place at 1:00 PM PST and will be accompanied by a celebrity appearance. What do you think the announcement could be?

Joe Musashi from Shinobi will be playable in Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed. Two tracks were also revealed, including a Golden Axe track that features land, sea and air portions, and a Jet Set Radio track that involves racing on rooftops and in a train station. You can check after the break for a new trailer for the game.

Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed was announced for the 3DS and people compared it to Mario Kart 7 as there are flying and underwater sections in the game. A more accurate comparison would be to Diddy Kong Racing, but based on the proximity of the releases, All-Stars Racing seems a little too inspired by Mario Kart.
But that’s not what I believe, and Jem Lee, the producer of the game doesn’t believe it either. When talking about the flying parts in Mario Kart 7, he said:
…although it’s kind of flying, it’s more falling with style because we’d discussed something similar to that in pre-production as we were trying to work out how to get these three modes in and we called it falling with style as you’re always falling but you have some choice. Whereas the driving under water… that’s not boating. So what they have is a kart game with additive options which are really well built on and add to the experience but we’ve gone away with that in what we were doing.
Of course, the producer of the game isn’t going to bad-mouth a game they’re producing. But even so, to those who were quick to dismiss the title, give it the benefit of the doubt. I think there’s something to it.
