Satoru Iwata has confirmed that New Super Mario Bros. 2 will be playable at various retail locations throughout North America in early August. The exact date and locations are unclear, but there is the official Retail Kiosk Locator which might give you an idea of where you can get your hands on the game before it’s released on August 19th.

With regards to New Super Mario Bros. 2, Kotaku has revealed that:
In co-op, there’s an arrow over either Mario or Luigi, and whoever has the arrow gets the camera. That means the other player is more or less tasked with following the arrow player around. However, you can power-drop onto the player with the arrow and claim it for yourself.
And so yes, if it wasn’t expected already, this game’s co-op mode is going to be crazily chaotic.

There’s a new trailer for New Super Mario Bros. 2 that you can find after the break.

It has been revealed that New Super Mario Bros. 2, when downloaded via the eShop, will take up 2,950 blocks on the SD card. This is equivalent to about 370 megabytes. In regards to Demon Training — the next game in the Brain Age series — the game will take up 1,600 blocks on the SD card. This is equivalent to about 200 megabytes.

Nintendo has shared the plot for New Super Mario Bros. 2, explaining that:
Trouble always seems to find its way to the Mushroom Kingdom! Just as Mario and Luigi go off on a coin hunt in the sky, their beloved Princess Peach™ is kidnapped by the dastardly Koopalings. The brothers have to venture through over 80 stages to rescue her, grabbing an endless deluge of coins across land, water, air, and snow along the way.
Okay, so maybe “plot” is used loosely. This is a Mario game we’re talking about though.

It took a while, but Nintendo is finally catching-up in the digital space. This year, they’re pushing out many of their big releases as downloadable titles and, for their first — New Super Mario Bros. 2 and Demon Training — they’re offering a few incentives.
So, if you purchase either of those previously-mentioned games before September 2nd, you’ll receive Donkey Kong Original Edition through Club Nintendo. And, if you purchase both of games, then register them, you’ll be granted with twice the amount of points through Club Nintendo.
What I’m unsure of is if this is just for Japan. If it is for other regions though, I’m sure the eShop will make the promotion clear once the games are released.
