Nintendo has announced they will host a launch party for New Super Mario Bros. 2 at the Nintendo Experience store in Melbourne, Australia. The party will take place on the 18th of August from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM and will feature various competitions and giveaways. You’ll also be able to try out the 3DS XL a few days before its launch. If you happen to be in the area, you might want to check it out.

In less than two weeks since its release in Japan, over ten billion coins have been collected in New Super Mario Bros. 2. So far, two-hundred and forty-two gamers have reached the one-million coins-collected mark, a number which should sky-rocket when the game reaches North America and Europe next week.

According to one gamer, it took forty-minutes to download New Super Marios Bros. 2 via the eShop in the United States. To me, that’s not a super-long wait, but it’s not that fast either. IGN, however, has said that the download only took them thirteen minutes. This was not done in their office, either, so they didn’t have the advantage of an unfairly-fast connection.

After two days of being available, the 3DS XL has sold 193,441 units in Japan. In addition to that, New Super Mario Bros. 2 sold 430,185 units within the same time period, and that only accounts for retail figures. There’s still the matter of digital sales figures, but we’re not sure when (or if) we’ll find out those specifics.
