There is a ‘Community’ feature within Mario Kart 7 that hasn’t been explained with an amazing amount of clarity so far, but Nintendo has provided the following explanation:

The new Community feature allows players to create groups with other Mario Kart fans while setting up specific rules to make customized racing environments. Easy setup allows players to quickly create a community and share with others via the StreetPass™ feature. Community leaderboards will also show the most up-to-date information from recent races.

They’ve provided much clearer details though about the StreetPass functionality:

Walking by other Mario Kart 7 players in real life with StreetPass enabled allows gamers to exchange racing scores, win/loss records, number of collected coins and other game data. With SpotPass enabled, players will be able to receive ghost data to race against. Up to seven ghosts can be downloaded at the same time, allowing for a full eight-player race.

This was already a game worth being excited for, but it’s really becoming something special.

Hideki Konno has confirmed that Mario Kart 7 will feature sixteen new courses, but some of the past courses making a return have had the underwater sections added to them. It’s also mentioned that the Wuhu Island course is one long course without any looping. StreetPass support is confirmed with the feature being used to exchange ghost data with people that you pass on the street. But you also can use that data to register that person as your friend on the system itself and proceed to play online with them. The multiplayer mode itself supports eight players both online and offline.

According to a retailer in Europe, Super Mario 3D Land will be released on November 4th and Mario Kart 7 will be released on December 2nd. Don’t take these dates as fact, but it’s better than the other information we have, which equates to almost nothing beyond knowing the months the games are going to be released.

According to a report from MTV Multiplayer, Mario Kart 7 is coming out on December 4th and Super Mario 3D Land is coming out on November 13th. Only problem is, they’ve since removed these details as Nintendo told them that these are “unofficial” release dates, so they can’t be taken as fact. Even so, they’re the tightest time frame we’ve received so far.
