The first animated short for Kid Icarus: Uprising is now available via Nintendo Video in North America and Japan. This instalment is the beginning of a three-episode series that focuses on Pit fighting Thanatos, the god of death. There’s no word on whether the short has hit Australia and Europe, but we’ll be watching for when it does.

It has been revealed that the augmented reality cards for Kid Icarus: Uprising will not be sold in stores. They will instead be given out at special Nintendo events, tournaments, and in magazines. Scanning the cards will allow you to obtain info on the item or character on the card and also in-game currency known as Hearts. You can check after the break for a new trailer from the game.

Nintendo has revealed that the tournament for Kid Icarus: Uprising will be held in four locations throughout the United States, including San Francisco, Orlando, and Los Angeles. The final will be held in New York. You can click here to check out the specifics on the locations.

There are also reports that the latest issue of Game Informer magazine has a single Kid Icarus augmented reality card inside, so if you can’t wait until the 23rd to get your hands on the cards, you may want to hunt down a copy of the magazine. There’s a video after the break of the multiplayer mode.

There are six augmented reality cards included with Kid Icarus: Uprising. These allow you to create mock battles between any two characters. So, if you want Pit and Medusa to battle it out on your kitchen table, you can make that happen. It’s not as exciting as you might imagine though. Still, Siliconera is reporting that there will be hundreds of cards available over the coming months, and apparently Nintendo will be holding events to allow gamers to “trade, share and acquire new cards”, so that should be interesting.

Nintendo will be hosting a series of tournaments at certain GameStop locations across the United States to celebrate the launch of Kid Icarus: Uprising. The tournament will begin on March 8th and will end on March 22nd, the final tournament being held in New York City. If you’re not participating in the tournament, you’ll still be able to play the game if you do show up. You can click here to check out the details yourself.
