Nikkei has shared a series of photos that provide a closer look at the Circle Pad Pro for the 3DS XL, which can be found after the break. But while it may look bulky, Brian Ashcraft of Kotaku has said that it’s “not half bad”, and:

…this new, larger Circle Pad Pro is that it feels compact, yet still usable. And more importantly, while Nintendo says the 3DS XL isn’t big enough for a second analog stick, the new Circle Pad Pro’s smart design gives hope that one day it could be.

And that’s coming from someone who hates the Wii U Pro Controller, which I think adds value to the praise.

A while ago, we received confirmation that the 3DS XL would receive its own Circle Pad Pro. You can see the first glimpse of that in the image above. Just to be absolutely clear, it’s the one on the left.

Reggie Fils-Aime, the President of Nintendo of America has explained that, the white 3DS XL hasn’t come to North America is because the lighter-coloured products “don’t sell very well” in the region. But not all hope is lost, because Nintendo is:

…going to look at the opportunity on a much more limited basis. You might see a limited-time offer with a white or silver 3DS XL, or we might colorize it slightly differently.

Just don’t expect a lighter-coloured version to become one of their always-available options.

Nintendo has announced that a pink version of the 3DS XL will be available on the 27th of September in Japan. If previous colours are anything to go by, it won’t be long before this one arrives in other regions.

The lucky people of Japan are receiving a Pikachu-themed 3DS XL in the middle of September and preorders for the edition were possible from today. As you might suspect, plenty of people lined up, the photos of which you can find after the break.
