Super Mario Land 2 and Metroid 2 are coming to the eShop, available this year in the UK

Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins and Metroid 2: Return of Samus are coming to the eShop in the UK via the Virtual Console service and will be available sometime this year. There is no confirmation on when these games will hit other regions, but that announcement shouldn’t be too far away.

      I think he said that Super Mario Land 2 is the only Mario game he never owned but he did enjoy it when he had played it a few times before so he’s looking forward to it. He also wants every pre-GBA Pokemon game on the eShop…

      … I think he also mentioned something about punching a coyote in the face with all this adrenalin but that might be just a translation error.

    That’s great! I loved both of these games!
    Hopefully this also comes down under, since Australia usually get a lot of things that Europe also gets.

      I know, right? These two were part of the first five Game Boy games I ever owned. Tetris(of course, came with the Game Boy), Super Mario Land 2, Metroid II, Jurassic Park(the cartridge died a couple years after getting it), and Link’s Awakening. Within a three year span from my 13th Birthday until I got my first job at age 16, I had to earn these by doing a lot of chores around the house and keep my grades up. Ah, childhood memories!

    Bionic Commando (The original GB version, not the GBC title) is coming too, apparently. Slated for Q4 just like Metroid II and Mario Land 2.

      Wow. Ever since Operation Rainfall it seems that PAL regions get everything one better than the USA/NSTC.

      Anyway, for a long time the US have got the earlier release dates etc (*looks at Epic Yarn*)

      Though I’m slightly sick of it too Liz, I’m actually glad that Europe’s been getting a lot more love from the gaming industry lately. It used to be this way:

      Japan gets everything(Duh, they make most of the games since after the 1983 Video Game Crash and Atari lost a ton of money).. Even all the crap games. Then the U.S. would get anywhere from 1/2 to 14th of what was in Japan, due to careful marketing decissions(Will this sell to the Westerners?). Last, a small trickling would go to Europe, and Australia would be super lucky to get much after that.

      It’s nice to see our sister nations of the UK and Australia to get a lot more gaming love from Japan as of late. Also, don’t be thinking that this means us Americans won’t get them. So far, everything new for the 3DS Virtual Console that was available in the UK has been available in the U.S. as well.

      Get your things straight and use only facts.
      How can you tell here is only UK? The guy running the site is Austi and all speak english as it is the usual international way to communicate with each other. You have no clue who is on this site and who not…

    Why it isn’t available now?? What’s the problem to put this “roms” on EShop??? I’m very disapointed with Nintendo EShop… man it is just little abandonwares (good games yet), it would be easy to update in EShop… Come on Nintendo, that shame!!!

    I want to be honest, I don’t really like any Mario games on the Gameboy Pocket… They were just weird, and they don’t really have that Mario feel.

      Totally. Thanks to that game, and the commercials, I was hooked on the later Wario Land series. However, for the life of me, I can not get into the Wario Ware series. Wish they had more of a bigger “Main Game” or better main story than all those mini games.

    YES, 6 Golden Coins is one of my childhood favorites. Aside from me beating it dozens of times, my GRANDPA beat it more times than me. lol.

    Why wouldn’t release them everywhere else? Super Mario Land is like the third best selling VC game on the eShop. Theres no way in hell we aren’t getting this on Thursday as well in the US. They did the same shit with Kirby’s Dream Land.

    I loved “Super Mario Land 2″ as a kid. I remember it being hard, but having only been able to beat “Super Mario Land” with a lot of Restore Points, I think it seems easier in retrospect.

    I was able to get the first Super Mario Land for classic Gameboy but I was never able to get the second one which is really good news for me since now I can probably get it! Even though it’ll be a download and not a cartridge but I can’t complain!

    hi there yeah more games i have only 9,884 free blocks left may need a bigger sd card especial sence i am a nintendo ambasadore i get 20 free games plus some other games on the e-shop netflix takes up 180 blocks nintendo video app takes up 39 blocks but under data menagment saying videos in the nintendo video takes up a whopping 2,439 blocks

    Mario Land 2 and Metroid 2 for quarter 4. Gargoyle’s Quest is coming next week and 3 weeks later the first of the 5 Megaman GB games ^_^

    According to that list, Twinbee is the fourth 3D classic.

    Smart choice to give that game some love. It’s successor on the SNES was a very underrated game (going up against Axelay with kid friendly graphics was a stupid decision…).

    I took my GameBoy with me to school in 4th grade, and accidentally left it in my desk overnight. When I returned the next day it had been stolen along with my copy of Metroid 2. Seeing as how that was my favorite game at the time I’m glad I finally have the chance to finish the game……..albeit almost 20 years later. ROCK OUT WITH MY COCK OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!

    i hope that they release super mario land 2 and metroid 2 since nintendo already released super mario land 1 on the E shop ppl would want a sequel and since the 3DS has not been selling so well this would help nintendo get more money and get more ppl interested in buying a 3ds
