Masahiro Sakurai, the fellow who is working on Kid Icarus: Uprising and also heading the development of the next Smash Bros. game (which is coming to the 3DS and the Wii U) has said the following in an interview:
I can’t really say anything until things settle down with Kid Icarus… And a lot of it will depend on the team that I end up assembling for Smash Bros. It may take a while, but I think that your patience will be rewarded.
And this is like what we’ve heard before, but I think it’s important to remind people: don’t expect Smash Bros to be shown off at all this year, and definitely don’t expect it to be released. At best, I think we’ll see a sneak peak at E3 2013, but we’ve been told the development of this game may take upward of four years, so there’s a long while until we’re going to get our hands on it.
As long as Kid Icarus is good i’ll be happy =p
For me KINGDOM HEARTS!!!
and i wonder if they will take advantage of the whole ‘add-on’ thing and they can probably realease the game and if they want, them make more characters to download….. i guess that will be cool. I love SSB and i hope this next one will have as asome graphics and gameplay as Brawl did. :DKH
That was a given.
Four years + starting game in 2014 = unhappy fans
what makes you think they won’t start till 2014?
This post says at best we may see a sneak peak at E3 2013. If it’s true then the game would start production pretty soon.
They start working on it when Kid Icarus Uprising is finished…….
Won’t start relrasing the game, should have specified, sorry
I’m all fail today, well I misread and I meant work,2013 , release, 2017
Why can’t you people understand? Kid Icarus is probably already finished, it’s not like they are still doing the coding and the graphics in the last months, now they are probably doing the last details, debuging or just preparing the release.
And even if the game is not ready yet, it will be in the next months, and he ALREADY stated that Smash is his NEXT work… So it may take 2 years or even more, but they WILL start this year… Anyway I had fun with all smash versions up to now… I believe the wait is worth the game…
kid icarus releases on the 23rd of march
Hopefully by the time this comes out Ill be in college, have a girlfriend, and have a job on the side
Well, Brawl’s development didn’t even start until 2005, after the completion of Kirby Canvas Curse. In the end, Brawl had a total development time of just under 3 years…
Judging by that, and I’m being optimistic here:
Kid Icarus is already finished as of January 2012. SSBU/SSB3D has already started development. If Sakurai is efficient with this as he was with Brawl, then we could see SSBU and SSB3D release as early as early 2015. And that sounds both possible and exciting.
my heart just started racing… after reading all those comments i realized ill be like 24 or 25 when this game comes out!!! GOD that’s a butt-load of time!!!
growing up DOES suck…. T.T
That sucks. By the time this game comes out I’ll be in college. Growing up sucks…
Same here… TT_TT
Hey it takes time to make good games. They have to make the graphics, animations, character models, program how they move, and so much more. It’s not like making an Super NES game.
Then after all that is done they have to look for bugs and glitches.
growing up does suck :\
I’ll also be at college, but ssb is worth the waiting.
But hey by the time were in colllege it’ll be better! just imagine blaying SSB4 with your buds and maybe ur Girlfriend (you could be lucky.) on saturday night!
You guys will LOVE college. You will have so much free time (depending on what your major is) as a game art design student I have craploads of time to play.
By the time this game gets a release I might have my phd…. oh please god, let me have my phd by the time this game is released ……………………………
lol I somewhat look forwardto growing up. I just want to be able to have more privileges from my parents. Off topic, but i noticed that this blog is really popular compared to other blogs and stuff. For example, friendcodes.com has way less comments on things that is on the same topic.
Same );
As ABEzilla116 stated, college is awesome…
Depending if you select the right course maybe you will even enjoy the classes… =D
By the way, I am already in the second year, and as my course has only two years and a half I will probably be working by the time this game launches, but screw that… I will play it with my girlfriend (yes, believe it or not it is easier to find someone as you grow older) no matter what I am doing with my life… U_U
Heck, by the time Kid Icarus is out I’ll only have 1 month before I have to go to college. It doesn’t matter to me because I’m already familiar with how college works. It’s not like more school and getting a job will interfere with my gaming. I’ll just have to play a little less for a while!
I am SO with you on the whole growing up thing.
But it’s smash bros so I think the wait will be well worth it.
By the time this game comes out I’ll be out of college. :D
Take video game designing class!!! Haha. :)
By the time this game comes I might be married…
By the time I graduate college with an Associate’s Degree, this game will probably have a lot of news about it.
Growing up does suck…
So, i know so many people at the age of 20+ and still play. I am in college and i really dont care if i wana play a good game ill play it weather im 15 or 25 k but after that we get a bit to old and forget about these games :(
I be in college either August 2012 or January 2013. Since I am a senior now in High School. I plan on either making some money first by being a game tester then go to college. So I can have all the things I need. Plus I can take a break from all those years in school.
If this game really does get released in 4 years, I’ll be 30 yrs old! T.T
My youth, it’s vanishing!
I’ll be well into my 20s when this game is released… :(
By the time it is out, we will all be dead. 2012 is coming.
troll
by the time this game is released i hope i have a girlfriend who likes my gaming habbits :D
Your post says the game is coming to the 3DS and WiiU but development hasn’t even begun. Sakuri has only said he would like it to be on both but at this point it could end up on anything.
its confirmed to be on both 3ds and Wii U by the Nintendo president himself
@Mr ECHO: He confirmed that without even talking to Sakurai first. XD
Um hello he’s the boss of the whole company he could say it’s gonna be on GameCube and they would have to make one
@Areuto
GameCube? *sniff* I have much fonder memories with the GameCube than I do with the Wii.
Sounds alright. As long as it has great characters and the connectivity between the 3DS and Wii U is solid I could care less how long it takes. Just make sure it surpasses Melee. For me, Brawl just made me want to play Melee more and more…
Be patience??? Be Patience!!!!!!!
ok :]
But 4 years?!?!?!
ill be 21 years old by that time.
cecil this is kevin I told you development for a smash bros game takes like 4 years
I will be 21 this year… By the time this game launches I may have 25… So what? I have still my entire life to play my games… D=
Just for reference.
Brawl was released in January 2008 in Japan
Development started in October 2005
Brawl took just over 2 years in total.
Super Smash Bros was developed in 1998, so probably took less than a year. Somehow I can’t find the actual year or date that Melee was started, but I’m guessing around the same time the GameCube was announced, which was early March 1999.
@TheUltimateKoopa notice I said (like) 4 years.
@small tall
EH,since when did u ever tell me that :\??????????????????????
My gawll… I’m gonna be 21 by the time it comes out, too XI
I’m sad.
2013… That’s too long.
2013… Sounds about right for a sneak peak. I believe we can get a demo at E3 2014 and maybe a release in 2015.
But then again if they do end up deciding to stick to the connectivity with a 3DS and WiiU version then I’d have to add a year for the extra programing.
True. If they plan ahead, the game would be finished in no time.
As I said, Brawl was developed from October 2005. Released in early 2008. Keep in mind that problems in development meant numerous delays, and that it was originally going to be released as a launch title in 2006… but that was an early estimation. Then at E3 2007, we finally got a confirmed release date of December 3, 2007…. then February 10, 2008, then March 9, 2008. Well, I’m from the UK, but you know what I mean. So over all it only took 26 months or so. Therefore, it was really only 2 years in development. So don’t expect it any earlier than 2015. 2014 is we’re really lucky. But if they haven’t even started development until KIU is released in March, then how can there be anything TO show at E3 2012? If anything, we might just get more information in the form of words. Or maybe a very very very very early tech demo… or even just a screenshot of one.
anyone have an idea on who should be on the next Smash Bros.?
4 me its should be megaman! :D
I would like to see some fan characters and the Angry Video Game Nerd or is that asking to much?
Viewtiful Joe and Pushmo!
For third party I would like Rayman, Quote (Cave Story), and Megaman with the return of Sonic and Snake. I wish Geno would finally be playable like planned in brawl, Waluigi since he is a highly wanted character, Ridely is also highly wanted, and I hope they put in Meowth like he was planned in the original N64 Smash Bros.
I want lots of crazy characters like Chibi-Robo!, Derek Stiles and Maxwell.
Megaman!! I’m not a fan of the series, but it’s stupid to not have him with. Rayman would be cool too!
I just want to see these things happen, and anything else is alright with me.
1. The addition of both Krystal (Star Fox series) and Zoroark (Pokemon series). Either character shows a surplus of martial potential: Krystal could fight with that magic staff of hers and Zoroark can use illusory capabilities for dexterous attacks.
2. Retain Lucario (Pokemon series). I adored using him in SSBB and he is one of my best-used characters.
3. Bring back Mewtwo (Pokemon series). He was one of the forbidden seven of SSBB, one of the characters who had data on the SSBB game disc, which shows how he was considered to be in the game.
It’d be awesome if they made a trailer showing Lucario and Mewtwo fight, and then Zoroark joins in.
Also, does anyone remember this? (http://redcardgroup.com/granite/?p=2506)
Says there that Krystal ALMOST made it into SSBB, but never did, even though she was ranked high on Sakurai’s poll. Wolf made it in, and he wasn’t even on the poll.
So why is Wolf in and Krystal not in? My thought is that Wolf couldn’t let her do that.
Either that, or Sakurai found it more appropriate to have more villans than female characters.
Look a my gravitar… nuff said.
I would love to play as Mii
Oh god please put in Zoroark!!! Seeing her appear as another player’s character until she gets hit, just like in Pokemon Black/White? GENIUS!!!
And I’d love to see her have speedy, Shiek-like agility and attacks.
Without a doubt, she would be my main if she appears in SSBU/SSB3D!
“She”?
*Recalls Pokémon movie 13*
Oh yeah, that’s right.
How could it take 4 years?
There is a lot to do and it takes time.
For Link in the Zelda series I believe they said it takes about a year to complete his movements.
Most large projects take nearly 4 years or more to develop. Usually we don’t hear about them until they near completion.
how long would you expect it to take?
Well I mean it is not a very deep game, compared to a Zelda or even Mario game. You know?
But I guess for each character to have their own movements that would take a ton of custom rendering. Didn’t think about that.
It doesn’t seem like a deep game, but both Melee and Brawl were filled with stuff. Tons of modes, characters, stages, moves, hidden mechanics, easter eggs… Easily the most complex and time-consuming fighting games out there.
That’s why it’s so TUBULAR!
Im so looking forward to this game :D
as long as it’s so good that I can’t put the game down then I’m definitely looking forward to it
You can’t rush brilliance. There will be plenty of titles to keep everyone busy for the next few years.
we really dont need another one anyways. the wii one wasnt all that great, plus its just not really fun. brawl got boring in just a few days. melee was okay, but the entire thing are probably just going to be sold to nintendo fans and not gamers of all companies.
WHAT!? Brawl is forever fun I still play it almost as much as I can!
Pichu! us master sword attack on him! *slice* Super effective! oh look Hybrilynx is dead! only the pure faint… (pokemon and some people etc.)
I dont know how you think that Brawl wasnt that good. The only thing that got boring was the SSE. Well, I guess we can both have our opinions about this game. Personally, I think this game is going to be cool.
in a way, melee was better then brawl. plus the online game lag isnt even worth trying, not to be rude or anything.
Who cares about online, anyway? :P
Brawl was an amazing game and is still the best multiplayer game to play with friends that are into games. Subspace Emissary does get boring, but I think there’s potential in the concept.
Melee was good, but I don’t like its relatively unresponsive controls and exaggerated gravity.
I disagree with you people saying that online isn’t important. For some games, online is really important and think smash bros. is missing this importunity. I bet they could make a great online service. Brawls was really bad tho.
for me, i dont really care about games that doesnt do anything with online/other people. the game gets boring and old fast by yourself. i mean seriously, 1 player games lasts only like 1 month at the most. online multiplayer games can last up to a few years. metroid prime hunters for ds, dragon ball z budikai tenkiechi 3 for wii, and excitebots for wii being 3 of them. call of duty black ops on xbox is already a year old for me. online gaming is what makes a game. and sometimes creativeness like pikmin.
As long as its epic like brawl I wouldnt mind the wait ^_^
Ps. 10 bucks says that 3DS version will release first and WiiU version releases about a month or 2 after and that both 3rd party characters return(hopeful dreaming here)
Pss. Melee took 2 years to make
Brawl took 3 years to make
SSB4 is gonna take up to 4 years
……coincidence? Or irony?
ssb10 10 years? oh no
One can only hope
You’re supposed to use PPS. not PSS.
PS=Post Scriptum so you want to say “Post post scriptum” not “post scriptum scriptum”.
i could wait, the last smas bros was great on the wii i only had ps2 back in the day but when i played melee at my friends house i had to get the new one for the wii i still love played it :D
Sounds just about right. By that time the 3DS will be 5 years old, most likely by the year it is released we will hear about a 4DS or a Wii U Mii, LOL.
the ds had a 7 year lifespan before the 3ds even came out im pretty sure the 3ds will still be around come 5 years from now
Well, even though the 3DS took longer to appear than is expected, you have to remember the DS had 3 new models in this time, and the DSi/DSiXL both had new features the older models didn’t have so you can’t say like it was 7 years with no real changes…
There will never be a 4D portable. Imagine fishing in 4D. Lots of people will be angry that their 4DS is broken.
Isn’t 4D smell?
so next nintendo is gonna break into the 4th dimension? SWEET
The fourth dimension is TIME… Tecnicaly everything IS already in 4D… Or else things wouldn’t just move… D=
I really don’t want to go into it ,but I want to add 2 cents.
The thing about the 4th dimension is that it’s been debated over and I’m still not sure it’s been classified on which one is the real 4th dimension. One is spacetime (using time as the 4th dimension) and the other is a fourth-dimensional space (adding another dimesion).
If you want to get confused, then read further. With the fourth dimension as space, we would be able to see all sides of an object at all time times instead of viewing things in 2D (are eyes can’t percieve further than a flat image at all times). We would be able to the the backside as well as the front and through objects. Shadows would no longer be 2D and would actually take up space or dimension. Also, our dimesion would be next to countless parallel dimension and two objects could take up the same space at one point… blah blah blah (find out more yourself).
This is all theoretical, so don’t look too into it. It is a very interesting topic, though.
Maybe Nintendo should have not told us at all. It would have been better if we had seen a trailer instead of being told a couple years in advance and when the development hasn’t even STARTED! Honestly, my I think this game will be done in 2014 and might come out in 2015. Since Nintendo has the guts to tell us about the game now, they might have some info in E3 this year.
They explained it was to bring more developers for the project. Announce it early, get a load of advanced programmers, artists, musicians, writers, etc.
I had called it being at least 6 years till it comes out after E3 anyway, no surprises here..
I wouldn’t be surprised if they have concepts and etc. that they aren’t revealing.
After the Wii’s release, it took them 2 more years to release SSBB (and it was anounced before the afore mentioned release)…
SSBB was awesome, I can wait for another of Sakurai’s masterpieces…
By the way Kirby games still have all their glory of the old times so this man is one of the old devs who I think are still worth waiting for… Not like Sonic Team or Capcom who sold their souls and destroyed their most awesome works…
Have you not played Sonic Colors or Sonic Generations? Those games are really fun.
If you are talking about the past, then okay, I understand what you’re saying.
The only bad Sonic game was ’06. The rest where still pretty good, not perfect, but not bad either.
I didn’t played colors yet, but even though the gameplay of most recent sonic were cool their stories just sucked, Unleashed and Heroes was crap… IMAO the PORTABLE (I have still some hope for the console version) version of generations wasn’t that good as I expected, like not that cool to play Emerald Coast and or Radical Highway with 2D gameplay…
And well, remember that Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 had awesomely good stories gameplay and like everything was good? Well, I am still looking forward for them to make a Sonic game in that style, most new sonic games are just too childish IMO… =/
Just because it’s not what you wanted doesn’t mean the games “suck” it just means it’s not what you, yourself, wanted. And there really isn’t anything wrong with the stories, they all make sense and are pretty straight-forward.
SA1=Eggman wants to use Chaos as his minion to take over the world and Chaos becomes too powerful
SA2=Eggman wants to use his grandfather’s creations to achieve world domination but things get out of hand
Secret Rings=Sonic is brought into the 1001 nights and must prevent the Erazor Djinn from dominating the world
Black Knight=Sonic is brought into the Knights of the Round and must prevent King Aurthur from destroying the world
Unleashed=Eggman wants to harness the power of Dark Gaia to fulfill his dreams
Colors=Eggman wants to use the Hyper-Go-On power of the wisps to fulfill his dreams
Generation=Eggman wants to distort time so he can finally kill Sonic
Most level headed people will tell you that there is nothing wrong with these games, it’s just that the loudest voice is those who think Sonic needs to be exactly what he was in 1991.
Lastly, it’s IMHO not IMAO. It means in my honest opinion.
No, I meant IMAO, stands for In My Arrogant Opinion… By this I mean I know it is just my opinion and I do believe people will disagree… What pisses me off about Main sonic games nowadays it not that they are diferent than what they were in 90s… It is that with SA 1 and SA 2 they had serious storylines…
Secret Rings and Black Knight had pretty fun gameplay but well they have nothing to do with the original storyline, I know they are spin-offs so I really don’t care…
Unleashed was a rip-off of the OLD Final Fantasy movie mixed with this werewolf weird thing… And well sorry if I didn’t buy the thing about the world being riped apart and people are still alive in it’s shards…
Colors can’t say much as I didn’t play it yet…
Generations portable version, has no real real problem at all, it was just no what I expected it to be…
The thing is, besides Sonic 06 (which I HEARD that sucked, but never played to say something) I believe we could say the last serious games were Sonic Heroes and Shadow The Hedgehog… What I mean is that with SA they did make some kind of realistic scenary with a really good storyline, but afterwards most games are just random spin-offs…
And well another time IMAO I don’t believe Shadow The Hedgehog or Sonic Heroes kept SA/SA2′s quality…
LONG POST INCOMING!!!
I have played every main entry Sonic game ever released to a home gaming system. (1, 2, CD, 3, Adventure, Adventure 2, Heroes, 06, Unleashed, Colors, Generations)
IMO, Sonic from 1991-1998 was… Good, but nothing I’d let my jaw drop for… Sonic 1 and 2 were alright… Sonic CD was actually really good, and Sonic 3 was, again, just good. Sonic The Fighters was a neat spinoff with untapped tournament potential.
It’s Sonic from 1999-2005 that made me adore the franchise. It was this point in time that I actually loved Sonic games more than even games of the fat plumber himself, Mario. Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 had great controls(I’ll elaborate on this further into the post), great visuals, decent storylines, and addictive side modes, such as Chao Gardens. Sonic Heroes lacked the Chao Garden, but was still a great game with good contols and addictive gameplay.
Now Sonic from 2006-present has made my mind set that I would never spend money on another Sonic game ever again. 06 might have had terrible glitches, a horrific storyline, and a cringe-worthy relationship between Sonic and a human, the game had one redeeming quality that prevented me from hating it. That quality is that in many areas in the game, despite moving much more slowly, the stages were designed for actual platforming, and you can easily maneuver Sonic in any direction with 360-degree rotation, which brings me to the ultimate reason I don’t like Sonic anymore. With the introduction of Sonic Unleashed, they introduced what made me abandon Sonic. Straight-forward paths designed for you to simply boost right through… And a good portion of the game was poorly-implemented 2D platforming. Okay, I know they’re trying to make Sonic fast like he was in the old Genesis outings… But the 3D segments are designed in a way that 3D platforming is basically impossible to implement! Colors and Generations were just as disappointing. All the 3D portions of those games forced you to go only straight forward and slightly left and right, with jumping from platform to platform reserved for the 2D segments… Classic Sonic in Generations is great, and I’m happy for the die-hard Sonic fans who loved Sonic 1/2/CD/3, and I’m happy for the modern Sonic fans who loved 06/Unleashed/Colors, but what about the Dreamcast-era Sonic fans like me who want controls that feel like Sonic Adventure/Adventure 2/Heroes?! It’s like we’ve been left in the dust…
If only Sega could make a NEW (not remake) game that controls like SA/SA2/Heroes… I’d hold that game at a priority even higher than the likes of Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, and Kirby. But it looks like they just started to get comfortable with the Unleashed/Colors/Generations gameplay formula, which I’m so appalled by, so they’ll want to stick with it for quite a while…
I’m not saying the Modern Sonic games are bad, I’m just saying IMO I dislike them so much that I have lost all interest in the series, and the due to how slim the chances are for a new Sonic game that controls like the ones on the DC/GC/PS2/Xbox, my hopes for it are depressingly weak. Thus, its not likely that I’ll ever be a Sonic fan again…
tl;dr –
Genesis Sonic games are great but not my thing
Adventure/2/Heroes Sonic was my favorite: Smooth 360-degree controls and well-designed stages, good storylines, nice extra features such as a chao garden(SA/SA2) or multiplayer(Heroes).
Modern Sonic games have good 2D gameplay, but the 3D segments are why I abandoned Sonic; 3D segments are terrible straight-forward boosting paths with no platforming.
I have lost all interest and hope in the franchise.
IMO, R.I.P Sonic The Hedgehog: June 1, 1991 – November 18, 2008
im just throwing it out there, issac from golden sun plus a mars lighthouse stage with doom dragon as a stage hazard, similar to how dialga and palkia were on spear pillar XD
Screw stage hazards. If i have any say in it i’ll remove all weapons, stage hazards, smash balls and anything else that doesnt require any skill. The next SSB will not be noob friendly. It’s done!
@The one who calls himself reggie: You can turn all of that off in three seconds. I personally enjoy playing with all the crazy stuff on (items on low, though). It’s just too hilarious. If you remove all that, it’ll be as lame as Street Fighter.
@”reggie”
what the…man…you have no idea of what you’re saying…”and anything else that doesn’t require skill”?, “SSB being noob friendly”? U sure that it doesn’t require skill to avoid the stage hazards? to get the most from a certain weapon or to get the smash ball before anyone else? sure, the luck may be sometimes with someone, but it does require skill to set the tables in your favor…all those people (or most of them at least) who say that X stage or Y item is unbalanced is because they can’t focus in more than one thing and only want another generic fighter…
Cant wait for this game (better have online)
ummm, der!
Why wouldn’t it have online?
Sakurai said in another interview, if he cant find a big enough team to work on Wii U and 3Ds version, he might have to cancel the 3Ds version and just work on the Wii U version, which would take faster and easier to make. Me personally I wouldn’t mind if that happen :D
4 years?? I knew we wouldn’t be seeing SSB in 2012′ nut 4 years?! :(
On the bright side, this will give Nintendo plenty of time to establish new IPs, which would give the development team more unique characters to work with for the final roster.
Each smash bros game features star players from the previous generation so this game will be using characters that had impact with the Wii. There is a small chance for U characters to appear but that’s miniscule. So hopefully we’ll be getting Skyward Sword Link, Other M Samus, Shake It/Master of Disguise Wario, Sonic Colors Sonic, and many others.
I’m not a HUGE Super Smash Bros fan, but for some of you that are, you should be pretty pissed off about this. I mean, I hate waiting for my favorite IPs to come out a year or two after they’re announced.
They should have waited until they knew what was up, and had something to show. =P
it’s not like there won’t be any games worth your time. With all of the content we have planned, you won’t even feel the years go by ;)
Dude, you act like there’ll be nothing to keep you busy while you wait for this game!
*hears it may take up to four years*
*breathes in largely*
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nowhere near as bad as FFXIII Versus. :P
It is obviously a bluff, he is hoping for a surprise from the audience when he unveils that it will be released in November this year.
I hope…
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha…HA!
What a dreamer, lol. It will be at least 4 years before this game is available :/
I wouldn’t put an exact amount there, but it will take some time. Remember the development for Brawl was pretty smooth, I began rounding up my team in 2005, by 2006 we released a trailer for the game and in 2007 I opened a blog to release information on. The game released almost everywhere by 2008, though Korea had to wait until 2010.
^^
Hey dumbass! Your gravatar is on.
Hey, dumbass! it’s not like you can choose when to turn it on or off.
Yeah you can, you just remove the website from where your gravater is coming from.
…
Ah, screw it. I got owned.
Aww…wait…that means the game would be so much better :DDDDD
I think that the 3DS will be the wii u controller thingies for brawl, it dones’t make sense when i type it though :P
Also, idc when it comes out, as long as nintendo is providing exclusive awesome content to us!!!
We always provide exclusive content :) You don’t get us anywhere else, folks :)
Stop trying to be reggie -_-
@Jmaster 720
IKR,STOP trying to be reggie!!!
four years for smash brothers nooooooo!
I’m not surprised. I’d like it to be out in summer 2013, but that is unrealistic.
And you said this is absurd yourself, but it would be great to get a look at this year’s E3. If that did happen, Iwata would proclaim to the world that it will be released in December, and then it will come out in mid 2014.
Smash bros is pretty fun but it’s hardly the biggest game I’m waiting for. They should take the time they need for it.
Two-three years is fine with me. It should be worth it. Im really hoping Meowth finally makes it’s debute as a playable character.
@ person it is the biggest game period!
I know games obviously take a long ass time to make, but it’s a fighting game. They don’t have to develop a plot, character dialogue, ridiculously big landscapes or anything. I don’t see why it would take four years to make, to be honest. Whatever, hope they take their time and it comes out good. I won’t be getting it, but hope you guys enjoy it.
I don’t think console games ( except maybe only smash bros) belongs on the 3ds it just feels weird cause i have a 3ds for a completely different reason than the reason i have a wii and if they start making more games that can be played at both systems nintendo is doing the same mistake sony did with the psp and is doing with the ps vita, of course this is only one game and we all now nintendo is’t stupid.
Ps: i’m not bashing sony i am just telling the truth.
They’ll probably regret letting everyone know about the game so early.. remember how long the development for Brawl was? and this is supposed to be the next step up.
I actually believe he’s fooling us…Nintendo knows that Smash Brothers will be a system seller, and i believe development has already started and hes going to surprise us. I wouldnt be surprised in the least if theres a teaser THIS E3. Fans would be pumped up and pre-orders would shoot up if people have even the smallest taste of whats to come…
That’s true. While unlikely, it would be smart. I think it would have been better to never say anything about the game at all, have all these people praying for it (Like they did for the DS), and just shock everyone with a trailer at E3… kind of what they did with Kid Icarus in 2010. That would have been pretty cool.
This game will get more push backs than a Hip Hop album lol.
2014 is too late. The world would have exploded by then
I’m as scared for the next Smash Bros. as I am excited for it. The final product of the game could go either way, and lord knows how the Smash community will react to it…
Four years?! Nah.. Maybe three and a half or just expect a teaser in E3 2012
The Best way they can make this game a success is continue support for it after it’s release. Add characters, stages, patch possible problems.
We can wait, Mr. Sakurai.
We can wait.
Yes we can.
I can wait.
what patience?

So this is the holy grail of all games….
The holy grail of Nintendo games.
2016 at the latest.
At least we got PLENTY of time to enjoy a bunch of games beforehand. :)
Honestly, people who keep dwelling on Smash Bros. early release will end up being miserable for all that wait. :(
I think Sakurai made a mistake announcing the game so early. Now everyone will be crying over how long it takes.
Nintendo announced it. Sakurai didn’t even know about the games until the announcement. It’s also the 2nd time it’s happened. The 1st was back in 2005.
Iwata announced it something like this: “Sakurai suggested we make it for both wii u and 3ds” So how exactly did he not know about it?
I don’t know…Ny brain hasn’t been working right lately.
I think Sakurai had almost no ideas other than “3DS and Wii U versions” and Iwata’s announcement annoyed him, because suddenly he has this pressure to make a game that probably didn’t even have any official documents relating to it.
He knew about it, but it was little more than a concept, then it got ‘announced’.
Kid Icarus Is going to be one of the best games yet. They took a long time to work on it. Video game play looks amazing Its going to be day 1 buy for me. So they can take their time if they want to perfect it like they have done with kid Icarus.
I’m perfectly OK with this. This type of game (Fighting genre) should never be rushed, or it ends up being sloppy.
Geez that is liek 4 million years for me, but for
now read this:

I wanna see some really cool levels, based on the 3ds. Like there was pictochat in brawl, so maybe like the 3ds menu? With the icons changing in size like when you click those 2 buttons at the top? Lol, maybe that seems lame, but whatever. Also, a better stage creator, with triggers and more options for pieces.
As much as I am dying to play this game(like most of you), I am willing to wait for this game as many years needed. I mean, come on, would you rather want a crapy rushed game v.s waiting a couple years for a excellent developed game?
Let Nintendo take as much time as they need.:)
No worries. I can’t speak for everyone but, I’d rather they took all the time they really needed and made the game right in the first place (like they did with the last three SSB titles) instead of, be rushed to put a game on the market that just outright sucks. This is one reason I’ve found value in patience so again, I can’t speak for everyone but, I know I can wait patiencently for the game. Just make sure it’s done right like you mean to.
As expected.
Hey as long as there are good games in between I have no complaints.
looks like im not getting the wii u untill 2 years. That way, i might be able to get more color choices, bug fixes, better performance with system updates, possible price drop, and and maybe more accessories. Looks nice to get the wii u 2years from now, well looks like im getting an ipod touch 4g for my bday.

Meh, I’ll be busy with whatever else Nintendo dishes out to me throughout the next 4 years. (Remember E3 2011 games that were announced?) Plus the Wii U is coming this year!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
FOUR YEARS YOUR KIDDING RIGHT. =’(
Well who knows for what system they will start to make SSB4,3DS or Wii U?
@David: More evidence that AC;3DS will be released before/during summer in Japan, and that it will have paid DLC after summer:

So they don’t fudge up like they did with the 3DS launch, smash brothers should have been part of the launch window, it makes sense to me because I would be first in line screaming take my money.
If it takes a while, then I know it will be a very good game and it isn’t being rushed. Great job Nintendo and keep up your good work! :D
I dont know so much about 4 years. 4 years is like when you make a game, and it get delayed then it moves to 4 years. I think this E3 will have words, but no gameplay. I think next year, it will have gameplay/more info. 2 to 3 years seem more realistic to me. Even great long games dont really take 4 years to develop. I think Nintendo is trying to do what they did with the Wii. For example, even though the Wii came out in 2006, Brawl started development in 2005. Nintendo would want to make Super Smash Bros. as soon as possible for the Wii U’s sake. Nintendo tried to make all Smash Bros games at launch for each system. I just dont want to have to wait for the 3DS because I already have a 3DS. I typed this on my 3DS, and it took me a long time
i have no idea how there going to work the streetpass feature.
DURR
Yeah… Just look at the development cycle of Brawl, I’m sure I can be patient enough for Smash Bros 4.
The perfect team:
Wait for it…..
Ta-Da! everyone who worked on Brawl! Perfect team, right there!
