Famitsu magazine has revealed that Shin Megami Tensei 4 is coming to the 3DS. There aren’t many details, but we should hear about the game soon as Atlus will open an official site for the game (found here) tomorrow.

You can check after the break for a scan of the ad in the magazine.

Isn’t Shin Megami Tensei Strange Journey meant to be Shin Megami Tensei 4. Are they going to overclock it or not make it a main game?

    • casualhardcore

Strange Journey isn’t SMT4. The devs specifically stated that the mainline SMT games are all set in Tokyo. Basically not in Tokyo = not mainline SMT.

Strange Journey was “unofficially” the fourth entry. Atlus Japan themselves stated that they wanted it to the Shin Megami Tensei IV, but since it wasn’t set in Japan (so that other places could relate more), they chose to leave out the numbering. So, it’s not officially IV, but the team wanted it to be.

Yes… Again with me asking (I prefer here than researching on the internet because from you guys it’s much more interesting to know) but what is this game about. I need variety now which started with Tales Of The Abyss… which is for me now the best 3DS game for the moment not even being made for that specifir console.

Basically, the Shin Megami Tensei games are the best games ever.

Now with me actually describing the games. The shin megami tensei series are games that have the player controlling demons. The demons are from mythology. Think of Pokemon but alot more mature.

Now the game play is fairly similar to most turn based RPG’s but the thing’s you go for is the things that make this series unique.

Obviously the story and setting are what make this series the best series in existence (fan boy over here). Each game has it’s own story so I can’t really give you any detail as to what the story about this one will be, but if it is a main series game then I can all but guarantee it will be post apocalyptic in some nature.

One of the main themes in all the games you will find is that demons are not necessarily evil, and people are not always necessarily good, which brings me to my next point, the game endings.

Most Shin Megami Tensei games (Persona excluded) have multiple endings based on your alignment in the game. The general alignments are Law (religious rule), Chaos (people choosing for themselves/anarchy) and finally Neutral (People getting to choose what to do in a society run by laws). FYI cannon is always Neutral.

Bundle all that within what is bound to be a 50+ hour game (another point, game is not short) and you have yourself a shin megami tensei game. Put in dating elements and you have Persona (3 and 4, not 1 and 2).

The Shin Megami Tensei franchise is my favorite, so if I said anything, it would be extremely biased xD Lets just say the stories are damn amazing *points at Overclocked’s Naoya route*

Oh, and Neutral isn’t always canon. Every route is. Depending on what happens in one game, another game might happen or not. For example, the only way for Nocturne to happen is to get the Chaos ending in Raidou Kuzunoha vs King Abaddon.

  • Some Guy On The Internet

    I’d rather see some Persona 5. D:

    • Shane

On the 3ds, no way. I want that game to be console all the way.

    • Some Guy On The Internet

Nah, not on the 3DS, I just meant news-wise.
I know if they were to bring the next persona game to the 3DS it would be pretty watered down like the P3 port to PSP, so I agree on it being console only.

    • http://megidoladyne.webs.com/ Dragard

I want to see Persona 5 as well, but I’d much rather prefer a main series game.

    • Raven the great

Some Guy On The Internet, I think one of the reasons why P3P was watered down was because it didn’t have enough space (I mean P3FES was ike 4 gig, srsly)

Soooo, since the 3DS could support cards up ta 8 gig, shouldn’t be a prob.

Do I need to have played SMT 1 to understand SMT 2, or SMT 2 to understand SMT 3? If not, then I’m excited about this, if so then this news is pretty “meh” to me.

    • Shane

No, the games are very loosely based off one another, in fact I dont think SMT3 is in the same timeline as SMT1 and . I also don’t think SMT4 will have anything to do with 1 and 2 either, though I hope it goes more back to routes and give us a game with humans in it (more than just the main characters).

Another thing, SMT1 and SMT2 never made it outside of Japan, so it would be a dick move on atlus’s part to do that.

  • rre

i hope you all realise that this doesn’t relate to persona in any way? because persona 4 is actualy like 9th or 10th game in the series.
i think it’s a sequel to smt 3 from snes.
there is a good article on SMT here

Is this the persona series? So it would be like a remake…

    Or is it entirely new?

Well it’s SMT so I’m happy, just bring it out in europe PLEASE!
