Rumor: Nintendo to announce the 3DS XL at E3?

Nikkei in Japan are reporting that Nintendo may be announcing a new version of the 3DS at their E3 press conference tomorrow. The new 3DS model would reportedly feature a 4.3 inch screen and could launch in North America, Japan, and Europe sometime this summer. We’ll have to wait until tomorrow to find out for sure, but it doesn’t sound all that implausible.

      I hope so. They’ve showed the same exact 3DS games at the last two E3s, and I’ve still yet to see even a release date for Animal Crossing.

    Nintendo said no 3DS news at the conference so this is highly unlikely.

      they said that their e3 will focus almost entirely on wii u and focus on software for 3ds, so 3ds hardware is unlikely

      Maybe listen to the Pre E3 Nintendo Direct before trying to tell me I’m wrong. They’ll surely be trailers and release dates. But Iwata said 3DS news will be shared at a different time. It would also make sense to concentrate on the Wii U this year and not make 3DS revision.

      they never said that. Iwata said no 3ds news during the nintendo direct stream. He said wait for Tues for 3ds and wii u news

      Stop making yourself look like an idiot. Like I said, there will be 3DS demos on the show floor, trailers and release dates, but barely any info during the conference. It makes sense as well.

      cole train is 100% correct. there might be sales figures for the 3ds and revealing trailers and titles but the june 6th presentation is all about the 3ds for 1st and 3rd party and i thi nk its nothing but software

    While I’d prefer if this wasn’t true, I could go either way, I think the 3ds is good as it is, but I do wonder if it will add another circle pad.

    I’m happy with my regular sized 3DS. That would suck if the XL had a second circle pad, because then most new games would use it while the people with the old model would be stuck with the Circle Pad Pro.

    They aren’t going to announce it tomorrow, the main show is focusing exclusively on the Wii U, their show on Wednesday is when they would announce this, if they were going to, that show focuses on 3DS…

    IF this is true, it will mean that we’ll be seeing the games in their true native resolution of 240p – whereas at the moment, the games are forced into a screen, physically equal to the size of “300x180px”. This may not be a bad thing, as it may mean that some of the rigid pixels will smooth out naturally but it also means that textures will show faults easier… People will then be quick to blame Nintendo for actually having shit graphics, when actually developers rely on the smaller size of the game on-screen to make the textures better looking, so they don’t need to make super sharp textures. Problem is, some game textures have been failing – like in Ocarina of Time 3D, where Sheik’s clothing shows rainbow-like discolouration. Usually, that happens if you save an image in a specific type of file format that can’t handle the various colour information, etc…

      … and also some of the Kid Icarus Uprising weapon sprites have been blurring and stay pixelated, even between transition effects.

    I thought the reason they made the DSi XL/LL was becasue:
    1 – People can play together
    2 – Old people can play
    BUT
    1 – Only one person can view a paralax barrier display properly and
    2 – Old people may not care about 3D or be able to see it
    HOWEVER
    It would be cool for watching movies etc and could make a solid improvement on the 3DS if done properly
