Rumor: Final Fantasy VII or Dragon Quest VII to be re-released on the 3DS?

An unnamed source has supposedly revealed that the 3DS will be receiving a re-release of:

…a remix version of the 7th game of a famous (J)RPG series, and will sell half year later of a spin-off game of the series.

The consensus is that either Dragon Quest VII or Final Fantasy VII is coming to the 3DS. That is, of course, if the actual rumour has weight to it. But the source is said to be reliable, so let’s hope something comes of it.

    That could be pretty cool. I wonder what they would do to fully utilize the functions of the 3DS. Like how Square is using the AR cards for Bravely Default: Flying Fairy.

    It’s definitely going to be Dragon Quest VII. Their most recent remake was Dragon Quest VI, and if they’re going to remake Final Fantasy VII they’d do so on HD consoles, most likely.

      It says spin-off, so it’s likely to be Final Fantasy since the Theatrhymn game is coming soon in February.

      The only known spin-off for Dragon Quest at the moment is Dragon Quest Heroes Rocket Slime 3, and that is yet to have a release date, I believe.

      Actually Holonboy, Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry’s Wonderland, aka Dragon Warrior Monsters in America, is getting a remake for the 3DS and the monsters games are spinoffs of the series.

      @Holonboy DQ: Heroes Rocket Slime 3 has already came out in Japan. I really hope it’s Dragon Quest, though, that would be awesome! Hopefully they make it that cel-shaded look. That would look very nice on the 3DS. ^_^

      That doesn’t count. Those are still the same generations even if the titles have different names. Besides, FireRed and LeafGreen are remakes of the originals, so they don’t count either. There’s only four generations, because they’re completely different titles! (the third installments are a part of those generations) It’s not the same as DQ [Dairy Queen :)] or FF.

      It would make sense for a Pokemon game considering they’re going to make an appearance at Jump Fiesta, but the latest spin-off came out in the summer in Japan.

      Besides, Emerald is the 8th game. You have to remember that the first game is Red/Green in Japan, followed by an updated version, Blue, then the Special Pikachu Edition Yellow.

      Don’t you mean, there are only four different games because they have varying stories and overworlds. That’s why the third installments and remakes don’t count because there isn’t anything to differentiate them completely from the original titles. Yes, I agree with that. Pokemon has not reached it’s seventh generation just yet.

      @Pizzakoe that makes no sense, yellow/blue/red were the same. Then Crystal and gold. Then saphire and such, then fire red and leaf green, which is a remake of the old games, so it don’t count. And finally platinum and those games. Making it fourth gen. Also in what you wrote, you didn’t include Platinum, so technically you are missing a gen anyway, so are you saying it is 8th gen?

      Yellow had nothing different form red and blue except a few, they was still first gen pokemon.

    That being said, I’d love to get to play a modern version of Final Fantasy 7 regardless of whichever console it winds up on. And if this is our only chance to do so, then c’mon 3DS!

    Lol there’s no way they’re going to put FF7 on the 3DS. Sony would probably pay them a ton to keep it exclusive, or at least it wouldn’t be on the 3DS first. If anything, PS3/Vita.

    I’d point out that excluding the remakes of games in the Kingdom Hearts series, Dream Drop Distance is going to be the 7th, and for the “bigger” games, Square Enix has a thing for releasing a “Final Mix” version later on the same system (ex. Kingdom Hearts FM, Kingdom Hearts 2 FM+, and Birth by Sleep FM).

    Probably not what they mean though, ’cause the only excitement would really be if the game’s been out forever and is a popular favorite.

    I’d rather Xenogears or Grandia, but this is certainly nice. Though, I’d feel the former would require a full scale remake instead.

      Xenogears would be a pipe dream, since the studio that made it is now part of Nintendo (and it would be illegal for either side to do a remake).

      Actually Paul, it isn’t out of the question. The legal situation for Xenogears has been untangled considerably in recent years, signified with it’s release on PSN. Even then, it wouldn’t be illegal, rather a bit messy initially.

      It would just take a co-operative effort on Both Square and Nintendo’s (Monolith) part to work on the project. Not so hard.

    Maybe it’s because I started gaming last generation (GCN, PS2, XBOX), I never understood the appeal of FF7.

    The story was pretty basic, the graphics were… PS1 obviously and the character depth was nonexistent. Why is it so famous?

    On the other hand if they did remake FF7 I’d buy it. Square has gotten better at story telling and I’m sure they’ll find a way to make me feel my feelings (hehe).

      Yea I don’t get the fandumb (literal) around this game. Einhander was released around the same time and was much much better than 7 despite it being made by the same company.

      And they already remade 3 & 4 on the DS.

      So I am really hopeing they remake 5 & 6 on the 3DS.

      Ever since I heard about the 3DS, I have been looking forward to playing a Remake of 5 & 6, because I had already played the first 2 still good Final Fantasy Games, which are 3 & 4 (on the DS for when I had played it).

      And I have played 1 & 2 on the Game Boy Advance before that.

    As cool as that would be to get FFVII on 3DS I can’t get myself to believe this. They wouldn’t put such a highly anticipated remake, one of Square’s best known games on a Nintendo system. And I agree with Rai it would be on a HD console.

      To be fair every FF remake/upgrade has been on a Nintendo handheld. I always thought Square Enix would continue the trend of remaking their games when the current Nintendo handheld was twice as strong as the console the game came out in.

      Besides, I’m sure the 3DS could make 7 look like a better Crisis Core. IF the rumor is true and IF it’s not DQ.

      T’was only 3 disks because of pre-rendered cutscenes bloating the disks. Not only is compression vastly more efficient these days, but 3DS Carts hold a respectable amount of space.

      Not only would the 3DS be able to hold it all; it’s going to be retooled to look vastly superior. I just hope they don’t mess with the atmosphere.

    As cool as it would be to have a FFVII remake on 3DS, I think it’s more likely to be made for the Vita. I’d also prefer it on the Vita over the 3DS- but that’s just my preference. If they do remake FFVII, I think they should update the combat system. You could either use the classic combat system, or you could choose to use a Crisis Core style combat system. I think Dragon Quest VII is more likely to come to 3DS.

      No it less likely cause those FFVII fans and the sony fans are being annoying to Square Enix since PS3 and since they wanted a remake. For them to remake for 3DS is a great thing because if it does great on 3DS and Square Enix sees that Final Fantasy should go back exclusives(Main games) to Nintendo platforms then they should. They rely to much on Graphic these days.

      i think it’s going to Be DQ7 (which i would absolutely love as long as they keep the original OST) because there’s a DQmonsters spinoff releasing next year, and i don’t think there are any FF spinoffs coming to the 3DS other than FF theatrythm? correct me if i’m mistaken :(

    Apparently they “found” some extra OoT soundtracks, and are shipping them out to select people who registered after the 2 day deadline. Suprised there hasn’t been any news about it.

      NOMG…plzzz let it be true..FFVII would give an overwhelming increase in Hard+Software sales – exactly what nintendo needs (SQE wouldn´t complain, too)! even if it is only a rumor its something that gets me heated up in the absence of any news castlevania/25th anniversary related

    I doubt it is FFVII since I bet that will be remade on an HD console (aka PS3). I am pretty sure it is Dragon Quest VII though since that series is also pretty big.

    Since Dragon Quest VI just came out for the DS, it wouldn’t be too farfetched that DQVII could come to the 3DS. Actually I think that’s a lot more likely than FFVII.

    Why can’t Square Enix please platform game fans like me and reboot the Gex? Not everyone likes RPG games. Dragon Quest seems to be doing very well on Nintendo systems so it’s a possibility but this rumour guy seems to be putting emphasis on “7″ so it could be Final Fantasy VII. I actually don’t see a problem with FFVII on 3DS instead of PS3 or Vita. I think that Final Fantasy VII being remade with 3D environments might just kill the nostalgia for some people plus Square said that making a full HD remake of the game would take a very long time(I don’t even want to think about the amount of money it would cost to produce it either) so I think it makes perfect sense for Square-Enix to pull a “Final Fantasy III/IV DS” on it and remake it from the top down perspective but update the visuals and sound to 3DS quality.

    I think… I think that there are only two real scenarios to this.

    The first (and most likely in my opinion) of course, would be Dragon Quest VII, and then the Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime 3 six months later.

    The second would be something regarding the Final Fantasy series and would somehow be linked to either Final Fantasy: Theatrhythm or Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII remade for the 3DS.

    To me, it doesn’t particularly matter because they’re both great series, and have excellent gameplay in their own rights.

    …but how AWESOME would that be if it was a Final Fantasy VII remix for the 3DS? Ah, rumors…how you torment me so.

    If it was one of the two it would be FF VII. That game really should get remade like OoT did. I never had the chance to buy a retail copy at a store or on PSN or anything like that, I’ve also never emulated it. But I would jump to pre-order a new version for 3DS on day one.

    It says “Final Fantasy VIII” on the link on the main page, just a small mistake. Anyways I always knew DQVII was bound to come out for the 3DS, but I sure hope FFVII does too.

    VI Should be re-done before VII. VI Should be done for the 3DS in a simmilar way III & IV were made for the DS, but with a more powerfull system, not using chibis, but something more… anime/dark kindda thing… I allways saw VI that way. Besides, I don’t think Sony would let a VII remake happen so easy, or at least not before theirs.

    Seeing as how SquareEnix has ported its entire Dragon Quest saga to Nintendo’s portables (GB, GBA and DS), and that DQIX was released exclusively for the 3DS, and finally, that DQVI was recently released for the DS, I’m pretty sure it will be Dragon Quest VII.
    I wouldn’t hold my hopes to high on a PS era Final Fantasy game remade for any Nintendo console. Quite a shame.
