In Japan, retailers are selling the download codes for 3DS games for more than their physical counterparts. So, while a physical copy of New Super Mario Bros. 2 might cost ¥4,130, the downloadable version is priced at ¥4,580. And, as an ultra-professional-writer-guy, there’s a technical word we have for this sort of situation:
Lame. This is really lame.
But it also emphasises the shift to downloadable games. Within five years, I think there’ll still be collector’s editions, but just the games themselves will be digital. Or at least, the focus will be slanted to the digital.
