Pokemon Company has something in the works that will “surprise players”

Tsunekazu Ishihara, the CEO of the Pokemon Company has said they’re working on something apart from their already revealed games that will “surprise players.” They hope to continue taking care of DS owners, while still showing what can be done on the 3DS. Some are speculating that this means a Pokemon game for both the DS and the 3DS that could connect in some way.

    I think Black and White is as close to a “Pokémon Online” as the Pokémon Company is willing to get, and I really hope that if it IS a Pokémon Online, that it isn’t developed by Aeria Games.

    Aeria Games’ SMT Imagine was such a disappointment (It was basically a freemium World of Warcraft, except you can only play as a Hunter)

      I actually sorta liked SMT Imagine since it started my love for the SMT series. Before then I had never even heard of it!

      Anyway, I think the Pokémon Company will do an even bigger online functionality some day but I have a feeling we are still at least a generation away (as in AFTER the 3DS) from seeing other people run around while we play.

      You shouldn’t worry about that since Aeria Games is a publisher, not a game developer.

      Dudes, Imagine only sucks because it gets no attention from the developers. Besides, SMT Is made by ATLUS, not Aeria. It’s a publisher.

      Did you see how the pokemon looked in the pokedex? Yeah, I’m pretty sure that THAT is the surprise. The next pokemon game will look amazing. :)

      IMO, Pokemon Rumble Blast does NOT count as a Pokemon game. Not for me, at least.

      There are four seasons: Original Series, Advanced Generation, Diamond & Pearl, and Best Wishes. It’s the american dub that butchers everything and starts a new season every 30-or-so episodes. :P

      Yeah, it’s the debate of the ages. There are plenty of fans who would argue they looked weird since first generation… Surely I’m not the only hater of Mr. Mime and Jynx. I literally can’t think of any pokémon that I dislike more than their creepy designs. Each gen has its good and its bad, as has been said by many people other than myself. ^_^ As with anything, it’s a matter of opinion.

      Don’t go hating on pokemon now. Quit dwelling in the past. If they kept making first generation games, no one would buy them and they would run out of money and there would never be any more pokemon. And quit being bitter about the voice change. It was like that for what? 4 years now. Get used to them or start watching the japanese version.

      The ds one could be just a normal pokemon game with 2d sprites and stuff. The 3ds one could have fully 3d rendered battles.

      That would suck. Half the game would be surfing. Plus you would never see enough tentacool. Also they won’t base anything off the anime. Only one game was which was pokemon yellow.

      Well, that wouldn’t necessarily be a SURPRISE, now would it?

      Maybe it’s just Pokemon Gray, but it would have to have some sort of surprise element to it.

      But how could they expand on the story? Every 3rd iteration had some extra story put in it…Black’s & White’s were quite fleshed out for a Pokemon game.

    It will probably be the expansion to Black and White. This time with extra features not on DSi, but 3DS. Kinda like Pokemon Gold and Silver which were gameboy color games that were playable on normal gameboys.

      That’s what I was thinking! Because ruby and sapphire are next on their list of updates. That one was actually my favorite, and it would be amazing with a fully 3d rendered world and hopefully they could actually use the 3ds’s power to make beautiful graphics

      If the next game does have 3D graphics Ruby and Sapphire would be a perfect game to do it for. I wasn’t a fan of those versions much but could you imagine a heavy rain storm hitting all the while you see team magma and aqua’s leader fight over the orbs while a sleeping Kyogre is seen glowing in the background?

      I can’t help but think that a ruby/sapphire remake would be obvious, too – after all, they’ve done it for the first two generations. By no means does that mean it’s a sure thing, but if he’s talking surprises, then I doubt a remake would be what he’s referring to.

      AGREED. Plus, we might want to consider that PMD is a game that has come out in a cross-platform pair before… Blue on DS and Red on Gameboy. ^_^ Making a 3DS and a DS game together wouldn’t be much of a stretch.

      Meh. I never liked Mystery Dungeon much.

      The story was great, but I found the gameplay to be repetitive and tedious.

    (I’m thinking they’re trying to make some kind of Pokemon-themed platformer. But that’s just a wild guess.)

      Well in the past the Pokemon Company seemed to have a standard plan of releasing games constantly but since Black and White came out on the same console as Diamond and Pearl and this surprise is for the 3DS I would assume that almost ANYTHING would be a surprise at this moment.

      Then again they could be just as dense in knowing “what the players want” and the surprise turns out to be pokemon tetris 3D.

      That would be awesome, attacks would take the place of guns, abilities for perks, pokeball grenades, and killstreaks give you items (potions, x-anything, etc.) and leveling up with exp would would work in the same way as normal along with evolving. Stones are bought with the equivilent of CoD points, PokePoints, and coming in first in matches wins you more pokemon.

    I hope it’s a pokemon game where:
    1) It’s a franchise game, not a spinoff
    2)It’s not turn-based. Meaning you can attack whenever you want.
    3) They use Augmented Reality for the Pokemon battles.
    4)You can control your Pokemon in battles. Like using the circle pad to move your pokemon.

      How would that exactly be something else than a spin-off? Pokemon was built on turn based strategy combat, and it will stay like that forever.

    New Mystery Dungeon games? I remember the first ones; Red Rescue Team was for GBA, Blue Rescue Team was for DS, and the two could interact. Then again, might be something completely different.

      it has been stated mutliple times pokemon will alway be a portable series that encourges interation with new people you havent met so i doubt it will be on wiiu like that maybe for a new statium

    If Gray or any R/S remakes come to the 3DS, the sprite resolution should evolve (noted) into something more akin to the sprites in the Disgaea series- high quality, smooth sprites on a 3D-model background. I would love them forever if they did that.

    If they would just go ahead and make a real-time Pokemon game, kind of like Kingdom Hearts in the battle system, I would be sooo happy. Anything where the Trainer himself is in a fit condition to fight off Pokemon would be welcomed with open arms as well.

      I’d love something real time, too, but with you controlling the pokémon, since humans tend to be pretty useless against giant fire-breathing dragons or canon-wielding turtles. You know, something like Pokémon Rumble… But with 3D pokémon models that the creators actually put effort into building, and with an actual plot.

      i agree, i would like to see a real-time action adventure rpg on the wii u. starring the pokemon too. it should feature heavy rpg elements when it comes to customization kind of like Kingdom Hearts. An orchestrated soundtrack would be nice too. But I hope THIS news is a main game on the 3DS, the wii u game is something I’d want them to take a lot of time on.

      Perhaps the company underestimates the ability of it’s fans and thus says the game will Surprise us. Heck the only thing that has surprised me in these last few months was Theatrythem Final Fantasy.

    Nah, I’m just happy that they’re doing something other than Rumble. A real-time battling game that doesn’t just feature two buttons would be nice. I have my doubts about the Pokemon MMO, just because Nintendo is chicken.

      Massively Multiplayer Online. As in while you play you can see and interact with other people playing. Since the game coming out is also for DS I doubt it will be an MMO.

    If they come out with a remake of R/S/E I would really be suprised happy and jizzing at the same time, As ive read the comments I accept with someone who said that pokemon rumble isnt a real pokemon game, the real pokemon games are those 8 badges to collect and beat the champion, thats how a real pokemon game is supposed to be. :)

      It also came out during the end of the GBA’s life cycle so it’s only natural to assume this new game is also a mystery dungeon.

    I remember when I Was a kid I relized being a first born is hard my mom would take me to school and then just drop me off at home then go to work then my dad comes home from work all beat up and just says hi takes a shower and go to sleep at about 6:30 and forgets about me all I really had to look at was pokemon and that was the only thing I had to look forward to until kids WB stop showing pokemon and died(they died cuz there were lots of kids like me and all the lucky ones got the new satellite. Pokemon is safe with cartoon network
