GAME has got their hands on a retail unit of the Nintendo 3DS and have posted photos of them unboxing it for the entire world to see. One of the pictures shows off *six* different augmented reality cards, five of which feature classic Nintendo characters, which I found incredibly curious. I’ll dedicate a new post to that mystery though, so please keep the discussion in the comments related to unboxing itself.

I saw this and it looks pretty cool. I want to know if you put say, Link and Mario on the same table if they’ll fight or something. Super Smash Bros. AR, anyone?

Bet they’ll bring someone else to direct the next Super Smash Bros. game. And don’t give me any of that “Sakuri can’t be replaced” ****. He’s been the only one to direct since the first game, so we don’t know if someone else can do it better yet. No one’s ever tried. And since he said he’s not going to make another one (read: he doesn’t care anymore) if you want another SSB game hope for another director to step up.

Well, actually we have no idea. You know, ’cause no one actually has a 3DS yet. However, I doubt it’s solar powered. But as to where the heck it is, no one knows ‘conspiracy theory’

I’m pretty sure that when you open the box, the 3ds is in the charging cradle, they must have taken the cradle out of the shot
@pokemasta247 What I believe…the charging cradle is connected to the power cord through the back…and is not solar powered. Hope that helps…

ha! look at the last pic, see that little black rectangle? the IR sensor is still there! (i have no idea why but….)
@nugget The IR sensor is (probably) in connection with the fact that when the 3DS is on the charging cradle, internet downloads are faster than when on on the peripheral…there has got to be an IR sensor in the rear of the charging cradle that is lager in size/more powerful than the sensor on the 3DS that allows that to be possible.

The character cards probably just make that character appear on top of it and you can look at it. Kinda the same you can do with your Mii but with actual characters

also, the AR cards are cool, they sure picked the best games. (mario, (duh) windwaker link, (suck it twilight!) Kirby, samus (although other m is not my favorite, go prime 3!) and pikmin (but whatever happened to new play control pikmin 2? its out in Europe and Japan, so where’s the America version?))

Europe, more specifically the UK. If you live in the US wait for Nintendo Power, where they’re doing an in depth look on all the 3DS’s launch titles (so they’ll be announcing them too), most of its announced games, an in depth look on the 3DS, and maybe even a couple reviews!

i know right!! (i think) its kinda funny looking huge. correct me if im wrong buts the plug looks like it has 3 metal parts instead of two, just saying..
Nope, it only has two pins. It’s just the air density in the UK varies every few centimeters. This causes refraction, making power plugs look as if they have 3 pins…
On a more realistic note, the UK DS charger (same design as the 3DS one) is a huge, cumbersome, badly designed lump of plastic! I hate it!
Did someone notice that this 3DS American/European Box is much more larger than the Japanese One?!
If you look at the original japanese 3DS Console Box at the NW2011 ,you can notice that it is thinner. This version box is huge! Personally,I prefer the japanese one. It´s like the Japanese Dsi Box and the American Dsi Box. The japanese is thinner.
I think that’s because of the many languages spoken in Europe. The manual is probably massive (compared to the US/Japanese one) and if you look at the bottom it has a ton of warnings, presumably in different languages. In Japan there’s only Japanese, and in the US the most they can put is Spanish and English.
Of course, that begs the question; what about regions such as…. well pretty much the rest of Asia? No 3DS launch date, or anything like that. Middle East, Russia, China, India, etc. have no news whatsoever….
Does the box truly matter? Honestly, how many times have you actually put your DS back in its box? I could get the 3DS in a brown sack, I dont care. Its whats inside that counts.

lol I don’t know about a brown sack but yeah the box isn’t very important to most consumers I don’t think.
I find the presence of Pikmin really curious… it’s still a bit old to be printed on 3DS AR cards… I’m pretty sure it means there’s gonna be a Pikmin 3DS… or a Super Smash Bros.
I hope so!! Those games alone would make me get a 3DS.

only 37 days? wow time flies…i remember i was obsessing with the 3DS back in September…i cant wait either :)
Look on the bright side. Feels like just yesterday someone was saying, “48 days until launch!!!!” So we’ve gone 11 days that quick! Also, it makes it easier if you set little goals. Like, “Can’t wait for next week when David does the unboxing!” Then wait for, say, the next Nintendo Power magazine. Then wait for more Iwata Asks interviews. Not to mention Nintendo said they’ll be releasing more news as we near the release date, so expect a steady flow of info to come in. It helped me wait since March of last year until now. (Wait for E3, end of summer, Sept. 29, holiday break, January 10, January 18, February 8th for AU, and now waiting for February 25th. After that spring break, and the 3DS is here! That’s pretty much my schedule for the past year, 3DS waiting schedule of course.)

If they’ve got an early unit, then they probably have to follow strict rules regarding what they’re allowed to publish. Either that or they just like messing with us.

hi there oh did you try geting software upgrade soo you coukd have internet browser 3ds e-shop and if you get the internet browser youb got too try youtube xl or youtube and tell us if youtube or youtube xl works with nintendo 3ds or not becuase chiness saying 96 mb ram and other saying only 64 mb wii has 88 mb ram and i use youtube youtube xl and wiitube soo wii can play youtube soo there are people thinking nintendo 3ds can play youtube becuase if it has 96 or 128 mb of ram thats more then wii and wii can play videos from youtube and youtube xl
David doesn’t actually have a 3DS yet. You’ll have to wait about a week for his unboxing, which will have plenty of video. These pictures are from GAME magazine, who were apparently given permission to unbox one early.
As for downloadable upgrades, most of the content you listed won’t be available until later in the year. May, I think, for most of it. Hope this helps!
I’m curious as to why they chose those particular pictures to use on the AR cards…
Old school Mario, Wind Waker Link, Metroid Prime Samus, Old school Kirby(?), etc.

The Mario AR card features a game where you must destroy all the bricks.
The Link card features a game where you must attack enemies that are heading towards Zelda.
The Kirby card features a game where you race around on your warpstar avoiding obstacles along the way
The Samus card features a game where you must blast Metroids quite similar to Face Raiders.
The Pikmin card features a game where you must collect treasure and bring them back to the ship without getting eaten by a bulborb.
I don’t get it how did someone get a 3ds when it hasn’t been released?

Nintendo has already confirmed the 3DS having a 3D camera. The Cards are most likely so you can take 3D pictures of them, just so you can see it really is in 3D.
