Nyko has announced via a press release that during E3 they will reveal a “handheld peripheral to overcome a blatant Nintendo oversight”. The assumption is that it’ll be their version of the Circle Pad Pro. The lack of two circle pads on the 3DS does fall under the “blatant oversight” category, after all. But what do you think?

  • Pikmin enthusiast

I think it’s the lack of ‘PIKMIN 3DS’

  • Wolof

    Hai

  • Salah

i sure hope so if a less bulky and better cicle pad comes i will buy it right away

    • Carlinhos

And also prettier, if it’s not asking too much.

    • Ice Climbers

Do you even own the Circle Pad Pro? Its a very comfortable accessory and actually looks a lot better in person. Plus Nyko would likely leave off the grooves and general shape in order to make the thing thinner- meaning no ZL and ZR triggers. And the second circle pad is in the right place. Nyko would move the second one down – a stupid mistake.

    • japzone

I hope it’s better designed too. The fact that The CPP covers up the Game Slot, Stylus Slot, and more, is a great annoyance. Not only that, there is no easy way to take it with you unless you put it into a bag. It won’t fit in any Pocket I own. If Nyko could somehow make it collapsable then it would be great.

  • Chariblaze

    “Blatant oversight.”

Any way to be more bashing?

    • http://www.fanfiction.net/u/1695137/ Sarah

That’s what I was thinking. Makes me not wanna buy whatever it is just ‘cuz they can’t be nicer about it.

    • The Fralin Boy

Well, if its a lack of a second circle pad, then yeah, its a “Blatant Oversight”

    • Ty

It was a blatant oversight. One of the biggest complaints about the competitors product- Sony’s PSP, was that it lacked dual analogue sticks.

When you have to release a peripheral to add functionality a few months after your product comes out, that is an oversight.

  • 3dsisawesome!

    off topic

but how many of you guys think they will announce atleast SOMETHING about smash bros 3ds, luigi’s mansion, paper mario, NSMB, etc. I mean cmon! They should announce something amazing!!

    • nambinhvu

Nyko has nothing to do with those games lmfao XD why would they announce them at E3?

    • 3dsisawesome!

      i meant nintendo

    • the psvita is better

not smash bros, but they sure are going to talk about those games

    • Derpsicle

E3′s right around the corner… why announce now?

    • japzone

They’ll announce more on SSB at E3. End Topic.

  • FJ L JOKER

A circle pad pro on steroids which means an extended battery for the 3ds, a rumble pack and speakers (Ok the last two where a bit over the top) but it would be nice though.

    • revolution5268

      this ill buy

    • Jason

funnyjunker? also, I wish they would make a handhwld with all that built in that would be pretty awesome, especially the second analog and triggers as well as a rumble pack.

  • cloud

im thinking it will be a circle pad that you dont have to take off everytime you want to switch games :P seemed like the most blatant oversight to me

    • Ice Climbers

      Now THAT I would buy.

    • Total911

And what about the stylus? Every time I do a touch-screen puzzle in Resident Evil: Revelations, I have to do it with my fingers because of that blatant oversight.

  • the pig

im willing to say the ONLT thing that sucks about the 3ds is the crappy battery power. i really wish they would make a remodel with better battery life, more volume, and hopefully the ability to watch online videos

    • the pig

      sorry about the double post

    • Naner

I still hope YouTube will be implemented in some firmware update…

    • japzone

      @Naner
I doubt that will ever happen. For why read my posts on 3DSPlaza here:
      http://pc.3dsplaza.com/forums/topic.php?topic=15151

    • Matt

You’re forgetting that the bottom screen scratches the top screen and the d-pad also really sucks. I can’t press simultanious opposite directions (like up, down) without lifting my finger off it first because it shifts it towards the side of the cutout and rubs on it, causing friction that makes a squeaking noise as well as making it impossible to press down.
If you look at the Vita d-pad, they did it soooo right. It’s a godly d-pad, hands down best I’ve ever seen on a gaming console. However I wish the Vita had shoulder buttons more like the 3ds because they’re all mushy and half the time I can’t tell if I’ve actually pressed them or not.

  • the pig

im willing to say the ONLT thing that sucks about the 3ds is the crappy battery power. i really wish they would make a remodel with better battery life, more volume, and hopefully the ability to watch online videos, oh yeah and the another circle pad thing

    • japzone

Nyko already did that. They have The PowerPak+ that replaces the Rear Battery and Cover for 2x the Charge. They have the Power Grip for 3x the Charge. And they have the Game Boost for a quick 1-2 hour charge.

  • Paul T.

I wonder if their making an ACTUAL 3DS like Panasonic made the “Panasonic Q”, or if it’s just a full armor case with a built-in Circle Pad Pro?

    • Paul T.

      Ahhhh….. a SUPER (…..better…) Battery, well that’d be cool too…..

    • Paul T.

….could also be a Wii U Controller that’s an ACTUAL handheld….(oooohhh the possibilities, stock price increases….)

  • ): ecafllorT

Go Nyko GO!!! Tell Nintendo who’s boss! Show them how to make their own products! :D

    • Ice Climbers

It’ll likely be a bad addon, but I’m going to leave judgement for when the thing is out and in my hands. Circle Pad Pro is fine as is – Gamestop completely sold out of them and you can only get them from Nintendo’s online store.

    • Matt

That depends on the Gamestop you go to. It’s not sold out everywhere, or even in most places.

    • japzone

      @Ice Climbers
They’re sold out because they’re the only option if you want a Second Joystick and alot of people want that Second Joystick. If Nyko comes out with a better version, I can garuntee it’ll be more popular then the CPP. Nyko is well known for it’s great and inovative accessories. Like it’s Goggles for the Kinect so you can use it in a smaller room, the Battery Paks made for the 3DS, or even the Wand+ – the first Wii Remote(even before Nintendo) to include Wii Motion Plus built in.

  • http://Insonywetrust Syntax FTW

another shitty crappy bullshit garbage ass add on, 3dshit is already garbage

    • DKoji
    • loganku

      go troll somewhere else

    • Boosos

This Girl Is Daft, Yes girl. You really need to start putting less sony into your brain.

    • Matt

The 3ds hardware certainly isn’t perfect but it’s also not garbage. Even though the d-pad is useless, at the same time the circle pad is very nice.

  • King Boo

maybe a battery circle pad/grip add on. I really want some grips.

    • the pig

definitely needs mor battery life, ove personay tested mine and it lasted 6 hours. ive tested my gba sp and that lasted like 8 hours

    • nambinhvu

@the pig lol what do you expect, two(three) if you count the 3D effect, screens, both backlit, touch screen, more powerful processor, wifi, etc. how do you expect the battery to last the same or longer? Also with the NDS it doesn’t have the wireless constantly on searching for street/spot passes, or the extra 3D or power, they added a lot more, kind of hard to keep the same battery life, unless they make the system larger, 2-3 batteries of the same size to add 1/3 the thickness.

  • Ice Climbers

I honestly don’t use Nyko products anymore. Those Wiimote chargers were terrible and never charged the remote right, the Wiimote gloves aren’t very cool (not really a reason though) and their nunchucks are less comfortable than the official Nintendo ones. But I won’t judge until this “fix” to a “Nintendo oversight” is out and I’ve used it.

    • Ice Climbers

I do respect everyone’s opinion on Nyko, however.

    • 3dsisawesome!

im having a prob too with the wii remote chargers! Like i would put it on for 2 minutes then it would say its done charging when I been playing for hours. then while im playing a picture shows up saing im almost outta battery then i check again and the battery is full, wtf!

    • Mishogyny

Their 3DS battery pack thing was actually very good, only Nyko product I’ve used. I’m looking forward to what the “blatant oversight” is at least.

  • adrian12369

awesome! i knew the cpp’s being sold out was a sign telling me to wait for something like this. oh well, it was worth it for re:r

  • SEGAGIGA

I think NYKO will release the first ever 3DS peripheral Nintendo’s system has been blatantly missing since they made the original DS:

A rear touch panel add on.

    /gg

  • Mixkon

I hope it’s something ridiculous that nobody would buy, like the blatant oversight was WHEN NINTENDO RELEASED MARIO KART 3DS YOU HAD NO WHERE COMFORTABLE TO SIT BUT NOW WITH NYKO RACE CHAIR, IT WILL BE THE MOST COMFORTABLE MARIO KART EXPERIENCE EVER (Also interchangeable with MARIO KART WII). In other words… a repackaged race chair.

  • b2j135

I sense a fusion of the CCP and their now non-existent Shock N Rock accessory, if so then ,maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan…it better be under $40′
oh and here is the shock n rock:
    http://www.engadget.com/photos/nyko-shock-n-rock-hands-on
btw SnR is like a rumble pak with 4 speakers and another battery to extend for 4 more hours like their Nyko Power Grip.

    • RIVER

Oh shit, that thing looks like it means business.

    • Oblivion comet

Agreed that goddamn dinosaur would be an instant buy from me.

  • Big E

    Battery. I’m calling it.

    • Xarreno

Better battery AND enough space to instantly insert and remove any game without removing the peripheral.

      You raise you eyebrows……… now.

    • Big E

Oooooohh! Don’t forget te all ppwrfiuull GOD joystick…

  • SleepyGuyy

The lack of a second circle-pad is not an oversight… it was a decision, and a good one at that. What the fuck is going on David?

    • Matt

Seeing how there’s enough room to fit a second circle pad anyways, why on Earth would it be a good decision to leave it out? Remember that initial rumor of the circle pad pro also came bundled with the rumor that Nintendo plans to release a 3ds with a second circle pad integrated?

    • Ty

How was it a good decision? The PSP faced similar problems when it came out with only one analogue stick (nub). Everyone complained about the lack of a second stick- if Nintendo were wise, they’d have taken heed of the issues the competition had faced.

  • Bigburito

everyone is missing THE blatant oversight! the viewing angle of the 3D! if nyko has figured out a peripheral to either a). output games to a 3Dtv where everyone can see the 3d at once or more likely b) some sort of covering for the top screen that widens the viewing angle they can pretty much just shut up and take my money!

    • Matt

The viewing angle is a side effect of not having glasses. The 3ds has to have a way of separating light into both of your eyes, and it chooses to do this by shooting it in two certain directions. The only way to “fix” or “widen” the viewing angle is to a) make it so the 3ds can detect where your face is and b) adjust the direction it’s shooting the light.

  • thatguyoverthere

What about the markings on the top screen that come from the Circle Pad and the edges of the touch screen?

    …What? Just sayin’.

    • Soeroah

I was gonna say that. The lack of a second circle pad is no more an oversight than the PSP’s lack of a touch screen. It’s a design choice.

The fact that the touch screen’s border can scratch the top screen if you close it without putting a tissue or something between the screens? THAT’S a blatant oversight.

    • Ty

Yep. Not an oversight, because they didn’t release a peripheral or anything like that to add a second circle pad. Oh wait….

    • Soeroah

They released the peripheral in response to the Vita’s. It’s not an oversight, it’s a design choice they regretted remarkable quick.

Or mabye you and I just have different definitions of the word ‘oversight’. For me, it means the failure to notice a design flaw, in this case, the scratching of the top screen, not a poor design.

  • George

    BATTERY DUHHHHHHH

  • http://hybrilynx.net/ Hybrilynx

to be honest i have no idea what this means. the only thing i can say is that they already have a circle pad add on. if you talking about back buttons, i invented that about the time when the first ds came out. although, my inventions mean nothing anyway.

  • Malamite Ltd.

Exactly how is Nyko planning to integrate this rumble feature?

    No?

Oh, I guess they’re making something to unify the accounts of a user’s Nintendo products to make a singular account to purchase downloadable content rather than forcing divided funds on different consoles.

Or…is it a device that lets you take some of your Virtual Console titles from the Wii and install them on the 3DS?

Perhaps it’s a software add-on that can allow the internet browser to display Flash or HTML5 content on the web.

I mean…I’d prefer any of those to another analog stick.

    • adrian12369

i guess i can only wish(about that flash player)

    • RIVER

      ….

I’ve always wondered why people want the ability to watch videos on their portable devices.

You have a computer, if you can afford a 3DS then surely you have a computer at home.

I view game consoles just as that, a device that can play games, nothing more, nothing less.

    • http://hybrilynx.net/ Hybrilynx

alota people have one computer, and up to 5 family members in the house. it should make sense now. on top of that, if your tired an want to lay down, well yeah. plus im on a computer almost 24/7. when i do lay down, i sometimes wish my 3ds had notepad++

  • Ty

Love how people defend Nintendo and say that the lack of a second analogue stick was a “design decision”. They’re just another company trying to make money. No need to instantly jump to their defense whenever someone points out a flaw in their device. Does it affect you in any way? Nope. Ignoring flaws in products doesn’t help us improve anything.

    • Big E

      Not every game system/controller needs a second analog/slide stick/pad.

    • RIVER

We can’t have good without bad, if we never knew the bad stuff, then we wouldn’t know the difference between good and bad.

I do want a second analog stick on my 3DS, though I haven’t encountered a game that requires it, except for KHDDD, I’ll need a the circle pad pro to play that.

Anyways, flaws are flaws and you can’t justify flaws.

    • Ty

      “Not every game system/controller needs a second analog/slide stick/pad.”

Yeah, that’s something called ‘cognitive dissonance’.

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognitive_dissonance

It is a very clear oversight. I’ve already pointed out why in some above comments- don’t feel like doing it again.

    • Big E

Hahaha. Who DOESN’T have that these days…The world was just fine without two joysticks. Now it people act as though it’s an absolute necessity to play games, even if few games rely on the extra stick. Besides, the DS series of hardware have a touch screen that can be used for more precise/realistic aiming controls and camera movement…How about this: Don’t solely focus on shortcomings. Try looking at the positives too. That’s how I came to love Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers.

    • http://faggots RIVER

The DS didn’t need analog because it wasn’t powerful enough where games needed the 360 analog movement, which is why Mario64 DS didn’t play as well as it did on the N64 because the DS lacked analog, the N64 at least had one analog stick and Mario64 was made to make the analog stick familiar to people, it felt perfect.

On the DS, it only had a d-pad and the game didn’t feel as good, don’t get me wrong, its a good game, but the d-pad just didn’t feel right for a game that was meant to be played with analog.

While you may think analog isn’t much of a necessity, games these days REQUIRE analog, to move the character and camera with ease.

Thats a flaw, unless the game itself has the greatest camera on earth that doesn’t get in the way, then the absence of a second analog stick is fine.

    • Big E

Change of subject: Was I the only person who bought SM64 DS to play the game as Luigi?

    • http://faggots RIVER

I think you just lost an argument.

    • Big E

Maybe. Depends on your perspective. I wasn’t trying to start one. Each person has their own views on the matter, and the topic was one that goes both ways…I’m being serious on SM64 DS though.

    • Ty

I bought SM64DS because it looked cool, and I wanted to play as Yoshi/play the mini-games.

  • stratisfire

if they make the circlepad actually overlap onto the body of the 3ds (right bellow the buttons) some how then i’d be sold.

    • RIVER

I bet it’ll be a circle pad, the circle pad pro by nintendo is near impossible to find at any gamestops, its like a scavenger hunt.

Knowing Nyko, they’ll make their own improved version that includes the perks the regular circle pad pro has.

    • adrian12369

i agree. p.s. BATTLEDIELD 3 is my favorite game!

  • Green Reuben

It’s either that or the battery life (maybe a new battery that doesn’t add size)

  • George Tirebiter

Since they already sell a 3DS battery extension, it has to be something to do with the circle pad pro. Hopefully it also offers protection against those raised edges on the touch screen.

    • RIVER

Why would you need protection on the edges?

      They really that dangerous?

    • Big E

Nah…Except to the system’s top screen.

    • Matt

They scratch the top screen eventually. On all 3ds systems, no matter what.

  • 4chan representative

    oh god

  • 4chan representative

    aww yeah

  • http://faggots 4chan representative

    one sec

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/zedamex Floorless

Start up a game with the Circle Pad Pro in place
    Create new game
Get asked what you want to name it
    Reach for the stylus
Realize you can’t remove the stylus without having to
remove the 3DS from the CPP

    Remove the 3DS from CPP
    Get Stylus
    Put 3DS back into CPP
    Name Save Game
    Go to store Stylus
Realize once again the CPP blocks access
Realize the CPP has no where to store the stylus
    Feel Sad.

Remove the 3DS to gain access to the stylus holder
    Put Stylus back
    Put 3DS back into CPP
    Move onto the next screen
    “Please name your charcter”

    Ragequit

    • Total911

LOL This so made my day. I don’t want to have to cradle the stylus in my fingers when using the CPP. That’s one of the reasons some people have the CPP in the first place!

  • Mister CottonPants

I think itll be a cover that also covers the screen with this extra screen that uses nintendos 3D but with some unknown awsome technologie allows you to move certain angles still retaining that 3D, this will allow other users to use the 3D feature more often.

    • Craig

You don’t know too much about technology do you Mister CottonPants? Naked-eye 3D (as I call it) can’t be worked around in any way and if you put on 3D glasses, it gets distorted and doubles up. There literally isn’t a way around it – even Naked-eye 3D TV’s that are coming out next year won’t be worked around. You have to view it directly in front, or you can view it at 45 degree angles from the center but that’s all.

  • rokumanxes

It’s a revision on Ninty’s Circle Pad Pro. But it puts it under the ABXY buttons like it should have been in the first place.

  • Craig

I’ve got a feeling they’re going down the narrow-minded hardcore route and making it an analogue stick, just because it feels clicky -_- Ridiculous right?

  • Mountain Man

“The lack of two circle pads on the 3DS does fall under the ‘blatant oversight’ category,..”

No it doesn’t. 3DS plays just fine without a second analog input.

  • magykmaster

prolly a better cpp that provides extra battery power for the 3ds

  • Julian

i think it is the battery since they did make a battery earlier in the year

  • http://primedmetroid.wordpress.com PrimedMetroid

Heh. Maybe it’s about a Circle Pad Pro with better battery life.

  • Han Solo

I hate 3rd party accessories, but I’m sure it will be better than the CPP. I wish Nintendo would make a more slim version.

  • I love light vs dark!

It’d be pretty cool to see a peripheral that plugs in to the 3ds and a tv so you could play 3ds on tv. (and on 3d tvs you could play 3d!)

  • DaveC

Yes blatant oversight. Nintendo released the CPP but didn’t include an extended battery in it.

Not only that if the CPP is installed you CANNOT have one of the Nyko extended batteries installed, you have to take it off and go back to crappy battery life.

So I bet this will be a CPP and extended battery pack COMBINED.

  • http://guardianhero.wordpress.com Guardian Hero

Nyko is going to convince third party developers to make RPGs for the Wii U early on and not kill themselves trying to force competitors consoles out of their graves?
