In Japan, various online retailers will be allowed to sell download codes for the eShop. These won’t replace direct purchasing through the eShop, or make the physical eShop cards disappear, but rather acts as extra option. For the moment, the following retailers will sell the codes:

• Tsutaya Online Shopping
• Rakuten Books
• Seven Net Shopping
• Yodobashi.com
• Joshin Net Shopping

There’s no word on if this will happen outside of Japan, but let’s hope it’s only a matter of time.
