Nintendo sells 6,000,000 3DS units in Japan

Famitsu magazine is reporting that Nintendo has sold over six million 3DS units in Japan since the device launched on the 26th of February, 2011. We also have the news that the 3DS is close to selling one million units in the UK alone and that it could reach that milestone within the next month. This would mean that the 3DS will have taken three months longer than the DS to reach the same amount of sales in the UK.

    I love to hear these kinds of things. So anyone out there still think that the vita will continue to survive? At this rate I think the the 3ds is starting to put the nails in the coffin.

      I love the 3DS, but I do realize that the Vita is actually a potentially challenging competitor, and may intimidate the 3DS here and there. I don’t think the Vita will even get close to half of the 3DS’s sales by the end of their half-decade lifespans though. However, I really do believe the Vita will be just as successful (if not more) than Sony’s previous handheld, the PSP.

      It just needs more games. I haven’t used mine in forever. The 3DS has a ship load (ship as in ships lolwut) of good games and even more coming out, but the vita IMO only has like… 2 good games out now and 3 coming soon.

      The 3DS continue selling very well, better than the 3DS in Japan and America. The vita is a nice handheld too, but it just need more good games to start to sell like the 3DS.

      They’re two different handhelds for two different audiences. You won’t get your Mario Karts or Zeldas or Pokemon on the Vita, but nor will you get your Uncharted or Gran Turismo or Bioshock on the 3DS.

      Both are very good handhelds with very good perks, and they can very easily coexist.

      If anything, the only thing thats putting nails in the coffin of the Vita is the PS3, beleive it or not. Modern consoles are actually the Vita’s biggest competitor, since they both target the same audience and deliver very similar games. Its just a question of whether you want it at home or on the move.

      Nintendo fan, you say that like if Sony only sells video games, rather than many other products that are enough for it’s survival, besides as they said above its a very in mature, remember 3ds had low sales and few good games at the beginning, so there is still nothing certain.

    That would mean that nearly 5% of the Japanese population would have a 3DS, assuming each 3DS owner owned only one. That would mean that one in every twenty people you’d see in the street in Japan would be a 3DS owner. Imagine the streetpassing that would happen if each one were to carry their 3DS on them. Even better in heavily populated areas.

    North America = 5.66 million
    Europe = 4.83 million
    Japan = 5.98 million
    Rest of World = 1.39 million

    Global/total = 17.86 million

    I think the data is little bit old, because it state 5.98 million in Japan, while Famitsu said it pass 6 million already
