Nintendo of Europe has announced they have partnered with free-hotspot.com to provide 3DS owners with free access to over 5,000 Wi-Fi Hotspots across Europe. These hotspots are located in various places, including McDonald’s, Burger King, KFC, and Subway, and in the Ibis and Etap Hotel chains. Your 3DS will automatically connect to the hotspots when it detects them.

  1. Samrat

I’m in the US, but it’s nice to see Europe getting some appreciation.

    1. Craig

Thank you, finally an American who isn’t all “We deserve all the good things, especially before anyone else”, you’re a nice person :)

    2. Were not all bad. there are people like that in all countries. honestly it would be nice if they could just release everything in everycountry though so that no one gets left out

  4. epicgameturtle

Show some appreciation europeans! Nintendo is doing something nice for you!

    1. Craig

Why does it have to be “being nice”, you act like you deserved to get this but we should be lucky to get it. You’re not the best country in the world you know, no country is and you’re no more special than us. It’s funny how you expect to have everything and have it first and love it and if we get it, we should be grateful? Of course but it’s not your right to have everything first, it’s a privelege.

    2. epicgameturtle

I didn’t say anything like that, I’m extremely grateful for everything I have. You don’t have to come off with a smart-ass remark just because you disagree with me. I have to admit I wish I could take that comment down because I wrote it too early and now I see everybody from Europe is appreciating this.

  5. Zed

Awesome! It doesn’t affect me, personally, but the AT&T hotspots stateside are really convenient. And we don’t have to pay a dime (personally) to that evil corporation.

And Europe gets free hotspots too! My only question is, will my 3DS connect to these hotspots if I am ever visiting in Europe. Can EU 3DS systems do the same with AT&T hotspots in the States?

  6. US Nintendo site is down!

    1. Eragon Fowl

      No its not.

  7. Dan

See, I like the hotspots, but im disappointed in nintendo restricting the partnerships. I’ve been trying to talk to them about getting a nintendo zone hotspot for my buddy’s game add collectible store, but they put me through the ringer. If your going to restrict which companies can make a no setup hotspot, then DONT LIMIT TO THREE WIFI SAVES.

  8. buci

i am not entirely convinced how useful this will be. but on the other side, mcdonalds is everywhere, and if it´s not there, there is a burgerking instead.

  9. people really dont have internet?

    1. Oliver

I’m pretty sure this is for if you’re out and about.

Basically this is Nintendo trying to combat the 3G PlayStation Vita. Which isn’t going to sell anyway, even the Wi-Fi one is struggling at the moment.

    2. readyletgo

Its not selling well in JAPAN!!!! at the moment.

If it was released in Europe or US first it would be selling very well.

Everyone I know who has a 3DS is thinking of getting the wi-fi vita, no point getting the 3G one, thats just a waste of money.

But, just saying that both Vita and the 3DS are going to do very well in the over here.

    3. the vita most likely is just to target rich people. if i was rich, i wouldnt not want one.

  10. Well, now you can download games when you are taking a vacation or something.

    1. readyletgo

We call it a holiday over here.

  11. Lazykite

The Nintendo ball of success starts to roll more fervently!!

  12. HA HA HA I AM A BANNANA

  13. Han Solo

David, I never knew you were the singer for The Kooks http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EpkLFZ5c-k

  14. LadidaRdam

Sounds cool, will be handy when I’m playing my 3DS on my road trip to Spain and we might need some food on the way.

  15. nintendo should just get 3g access for 3DS.

    1. nin10do4ever

      yeah but nah

    2. Zeem

Because the target demographic of the 3DS totally wants to get hung up with AT&T mobile contracts. -nod-

    3. me

i dont wanna pay monthley fees

  16. Omarsonic9

Heck yeah! now when ill go to europe ill have NO PROBLEM when getting out

  17. Xarreno

*OFFTOPIC* Is it just me or did the page about the new rewards of Club Nintendo of NA stop working?

Back on topic, that’s pretty sweet.

    1. Xarreno

Nevermind, I can get to it now.

  18. Sonny

  19. FlashFan

    Finally, something for the Europe!

    1. Eragon Fowl

      I mentioned that before you.

    2. This Guy Here

The very least you could do is having a link to the information provided when mentioning.

And yeah, I sorta overlooked your comment.

    3. Eragon Fowl

Sorry their was no link nintendos website just had a link talking about nintendo zone not the pokemon videos.

  22. woot 20 people in mah mii plaza, and that is alot considering that theres not alot of kids where i live D:

  23. Alex Atkin UK

WTH happened to them being partnered with BTFON? Granted that is only really useful for residential areas, but it would have been VERY useful.

That said, this is going to utterly kill StreetPass.

The local 3DS group already had this problem as for some reason it was ALREADY automatically connecting to McDonalds WiFi which prevented us from StreetPassing each other properly, it worked randomly with some of us never registering at all. I can only hope they improved this in the last firmware update as we haven’t met since that.

  24. Mariobro3000

Hopefully this 3DS app will come to NA soon
