There’s a frustrating glitch on the Wuhu Island track in Mario Kart 7 that allows lesser people to skip quite far ahead in a race, and unfortunately Nintendo has no plans to fix it. Here’s what they said:

We are aware that it is possible to navigate a certain part of the track in Wuhu Island in a way that allows a large part of the course to be bypassed. There are no plans to update the game to remove this shortcut as doing so would create an unfair advantage for the users of the original release of the game. Rest assured your comments have been added to our records for Mario Kart 7.

Grrrr. That about sums up my feelings. Grrrr.

  • http://Nintendoglobe.com Timothy

They think this is unfair to everyone! What the?

    • Matt

Apparently, it’s unfair to remove a glitch that people use to cheat and make the game unfun because than OTHER people can’t try the glitch and cheat against the rest of us… ugh…

    • Bobby

What they’re saying is that if they fixed it for future games, then people who had the games before they were fixed would be able to use the glitch, whilst the people who got the new, updated games would not, therefore giving the people who already owned the games an advantage.

    • Glitchmastermario

Wouldn’t you have to update the game to play it on online mode? It would be like the Wii, but luckly there are no hacks for the 3DS that will let you bypass this

    • Newah

The glitch only saves you a few seconds anyway. It’s not that bad.

    • SPG

@Newah uh no! you skip the entire 2nd lap!

    • RedPixel720

      @Newah
Only a few seconds? Pffft. Yeah right.

    • Luigi Shoryuken

Yeah I havent had MK7 for too long and I have noticed that I automatically stop racing quite far away from the finish line because the guy in 1st finished sooo long ago. Its the sunset wuhu level right?

    • Josuemental

What the hell do they think they created SpotPass for?? The lame excuse is that if they update it they would only do to the new ones but wouldn’t update the ones that have already been bought?? stupid

  • http://srtuki.tumblr.com/ tuki

    too bad

    • http://srtuki.tumblr.com/ tuki

everyone choose that track all the time

    • Free of Birth

      ikr ?

    • Dae

I didn’t know about the glitch, i always chose it because it’s my favourite one. ._.

    • Xarreno

      It sucks.

  • SPG

wow, you like, very late on posting this -_-

  • http://giygas reggie

they are saying that people who had the game before would have a really good time attack score and if they fix this then people who get the game late would never be able to get as good as a score so they would be at a disadvantage…. still pretty stupid though they should fix it for the online part

    reggie is giygas
    http://youtu.be/VbpAURp1AnM

    • reggie fils-aime

that video was hilarious i seriously never noticed a lot of that stuff before
as for the mother titles, look i wont bring them over here, i can’t, i would like too, but for right now i just can’t.

    • Han Solo

This is the most funny video ever created.

  • knightboy

man i hate it when people use that glitch online! in america its called maka wuhu….is it not called that in other regions?

  • Blue J

I hate that glitch. Only used it for time trial. I also hate that more than half of the racers take that stupid glitch.

There was this one time where 7 racers take that glitch except me, since I play fair and not cheat. I have a 3 star rank with around 6400VR points and I plan to not take that shortcut, even if all 7 racers cheat their way to victory.

    • DekuShroom

thats exactly the way i think, even if all 7 racers do it i wont, but people pick that course to often nd it ticks me off

    • mariomarioman

its a little different 4 me i wait and see if anyone else glitches, if they do then i do too, but if they dont i dont.

    • MAZVR

When i see someone cheating i just turn off my 3ds and its like it never happened (the cheating part)

  • Areuto

Well not all game can be perfect you know.

  • yousucked

This is why I stopped playing mario kart 7 online, Fucking losers can’t fucking play fair for shit.

  • Michael M

Anyway who chooses the track is a fuckin cheater.
    That is all.

  • Castle

    GRRR!!!

  • Kayriss

I used the cheat once out of curiosity as to why every one was jumping in the freaking water. I am disgusted with myself and anyone who uses this cheat.

  • chris

ok heres your solution: nintendo does tests to see what the best humanely possible core on the track is, and then andything faster than that gets reset

  • Colin

If DLC is possible, so are software patches. If they fixed the glitch for everyone, what would be the problem?

    • Darkwargreymon

Because of time trial high scores.

    • Colin

But they can get rid of those, just like they do for Grumble Volcano.

  • Redlixer289

That’s code for: “We’re too lazy to care. “

  • [V]ark

When this track is selected, I try to find a buddy to play around with and never reach the finish :P

  • Supermario97

Ummm isint the track MAKA WUHU with the glitch, not wuhu island? Or does wuhu island ALSO has a glitch

    • My name is NOT Earl

Only maka wuhu, wuhu loop doesn’t actually pass through that part

  • Andrew

It is fair if they fix it others can choose not to update and time trial records would be destroyed

  • Andrew

I only know Maka Wuhu glitch not Wuhu island

  • http://nintendo3dsblog.com/photos-of-a-kid-icarus-uprising-float-in-japan Kaizar

I never heard of this glitch.

How does it happen and stuff?

    MINT BERRY CRUNCH!

    • me

      look on youtube

    • Matthew

Seach it on youtube maku wuhu Glitch, and Wuhu Loop Glitch. They send you way ahead of you’re opponents.

      HeHeHeHeHeHe Fart…

    • http://www.en.gravatar.com GameManiac

I just heard about it a few hours ago.

Perhaps I’ll use this for time trials, but not competitively online multiplayer. I’m better than this and would just rely on my skill (and item luck).

    • supermariofan

@Matthew there’s a glitch for wuho loop? I’ve heard of the maka wuhu glitch

  • Matthew

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! PLEASE NOOOOOOOOOO!

    • Matthew

Wait, I thought it said, They are removing it. Never mind then. I love that glitch

    • My name is NOT Earl

You obviously do this glitch and probably suck at the game cause you do the glitch.

    • DSderp

      That glitch is awesome :D
…haters gonna hate for what i just said

  • me

actually….it still is fair if everyone does it…..

    • My name is NOT Earl

But fair people don’t my fair friend…

  • Anon

There’s not really anything they could do, other than ban the stage entirely.

    • Matthew

      System Update for Mk7 Derp.

    • Darkwargreymon

If they system update it then the unfair part would be previous time trials.

  • My name is NOT Earl

What nintendo would probably do in a future, is fix the glitch via update(just like ridge racer) and if you don’t update to that version you don’t get some new apps ir thingnlike that, and you would look dumb with an old iOS version, therefore forcing you to update the 3ds AND patch the glitch, who’s with me?

    • Darkwargreymon

The reason they don’t do that is because of time trials.

    • Anon

Ridge Racer was a glitch in the system. This is a glitch in the game. To the best of my knowledge, Nintendo has never patched existing copies of games.

  • Bewoulf2000

It’s not that big a deal. Who cares if it’s a glitch. If everyone uses it, no advantage is gained.

    • jonathan peabody

      but not everyone does it…

  • Moop

Whenever I do it, I get a communication error lol

    • 3DSFan777

insteed of fixing it they could just patch it to give communication errors to players who do the glitch

  • Sothe

Could they fix it if they wanted to? I wonder if the game is programed to allow nintendo to change the makeup of the courses… I don’t think it could be changed on the game cartridge itself, so if it could be done, it would need to be done with add on content with an sd card. right?

    • https://sites.google.com/site/neotechni/ NeoTechni

The game doesn’t need to be programmed to allow it.
All they need to do is program the 3DS’s GUI to run an EXE(cutable) from the SD card if there is one for the game that’s inserted. Then they could update that EXE whenever they want.

  • Free of Birth

Now I see why I can’t beat the guy’s record..

  • Glitchmastermario

I’m forced to do this glitch whenever that course is chosen because half of the players will do this and I don’t want to lose because of cheaters. Just hearing this makes me even more mad. I don’t want to do the glitch, but people will only choose this course and not choose anything else.

This is what I think they should do: Have the 3DS update when trying to go online with/without Mario Kart 7 so that no one else can post the cheated score online without having to update and maybe if it’s possible, make the super fast time trial from Maka Wuhu be deleated from the system and have a Nintendo mod (or somebody who can do this) deleat the super fast time trials from Maka Wuhu from the online scores

    • supermariofan

just like some people doing that grumble volcano glitch and always chooses that course

    • Mollusc Man

i know exactly what you mean. i don’t like using it but when literally everyone does it you really have no choice.

if you can’t beat ‘em join ‘em

  • Bulldog

oh nintendo, dont update the game for new customers, update the game via eshop!!! its the 21 century!!!

    • Darkwargreymon

They mean it wouldn’t be fair for new players to not beat the old time trial scores….

  • Luca

Ohhhhhh thats why that would happen those peaces of **** lol

  • Mo

So what if is an disadvantage, we still want to be able to have a fun race. Also, you guys can just go to the Mario cup, that place is filled with people who dont do the glitch. If we make enough noise about this, we can grab Nintendo’s attention.

  • Dillon

    Woah! Stop using bad language!

  • https://sites.google.com/site/neotechni/ NeoTechni

You could patch all copies instead of just new ones.

    But that’d require proper online.

    • mariomarioman

so make it an automatic update when you connect to the net

if you dont connect then it doesnt matter cuz ur not against other people

    • Darkwargreymon

The problem is the old time trial scores.

  • thesupergamer85

couldn’t they just release a patch wtf

    • Darkwargreymon

Yes but then there are the old time trial scores.

  • JefteNintendoNerd

    *Puts on bandana*
If you can’t beat them, KICK THEIR FUCKIN ASS IN THEIR OWN GAME!! >:(
*MGS Theme plays while learning the glitch*

  • Okamii

    Wha?
Since when is it not possible to fix an forced update, so that you can’t play online without downloading the patch fixing the game??

    • Darkwargreymon

The old time trial scores would not be fair.

  • http://www.shinyscyther.deviantart.com Shiny scyther

What da ? Unfair? UNFAIR IS USING THE F*CKING GLITCH, YOU MORONS!

  • supermariofan

it sucks cause’ maka wuhu was a great course.Butthe funny thing is that they time trial challenged us(on nintendo channel) on maka wuhu if they new about the glich XD.It’s a shame but at least that this game dosen’t have as many glitches as Mario Kart Wii

  • djnforce9

Reminds me of Rainbow Road from Mario Kart 64 and how you could skip half the track using a well timed jump off the left side rail at the beginning of the course.

    • Xarreno

      Heh heh… yep, good times…

  • Owen

I think Nintendo’s reasons are as fair as any. It wouldn’t be fair to those with the later versions, because people with the current version would cheat. But what you guys ALL seem to think is that Nintendo can just release a patch for it, but this game, along with every other game ever made for the 3DS so far, have not been programed with that ability, and therefore cannot get DLC or anything of the sort, unforyunately. The only way for new characters, courses etc. is a new version of the game.

  • Jedmondson0007

This is what i sent to Nintendo and in response they sent me that.(David got it from his forums where I posted this)
I sent a second email which got non response.

“The Maka Wahu glitch in Mario Kart 7, as I am sure y’all are aware of, is ruining online play. It is costing a majority of good people like myself VR points and patience because of a few select people who cheat. At that point I turn off my system where I am punished with a 20 point deduction because I refuse to play with cheaters. Please Nintendo fix the glitch.”

  • nikagundam

i will translate this to all of you who cant speak and read nintendo-ish:

“we are way too lazy to patch a game just because of one stupid glitch. we dont care because the game will sell awesome anyway. “

    • 3DSFan777

and i will translate your name “i am a retarted bitch who will burn in hell and is a gay jackass

    • Zoroark

      3DSFan777
      You’re a loser.

  • Ricardo

WHAT GLITCH?? I’ve never experienced it!

    Please post a video someone!!!

    • supermariofan
    • Crannynoko

It’s near the second lap mark, you jump in the water and it brings you past the 2nd lap to the third

    • http://hybrilynx.net/ Hybrilynx

that reminds me of how i use to disqualify people in excitebots on the crystal nebula stage. i wish there was an excitebots for the 3ds.

  • Crannynoko

It is a really nice track to be ruined by such a thing like this; I am not going to lie I have used it before but only on mirror mode D:

  • Nitwit_Speed

This better be the last case of this. MK7 can’t get DLC for the same reason i can’t use the Join Game feature for Sonic Generations- it came out too early. But what of future glitches?

  • http://hybrilynx.net/ Hybrilynx

dont they even play test their games? probably not. i mean seriously, almost every glitch i know about anywhere, i find by myself in a few days at most.

but really, what do they mean about “unfair advantage for the users of the original release of the game”? i dont get it.

    • 3DSFan777

They do just i think when they test it i guess they didn’t fall on maka wuhu that they didn’t notice the glitch

  • sammaster9

facepalm… we don’t want them to take it out in later copies of the game, we want them to patch it, which would in no way create an unfair advantage, because everyone playing online would need to download the patch.

    • Xarreno

Well by that logic, there are 2 scenarios. 1) some people would refuse to download the patch and still cheat and 2) even if all games were patched, people would still have their best time trial records on their 3DSes (not the main hub). Sucks either way, unless the patch deleted all time trial data… which would just suck.

  • no

NOT A CREDIBLE SOURCE. Some person e-mailed Nintendo? Yeah, not buying it. Nintendo would not tell them anything, if they would say anything about it, they would make an official public announcement, not e-mail some random person. And that is the third ridiculous post on this site, and because of that, I will be done with this site.

    • Jedmondson0007

I emailed them I can post the whole thing if you’d like.

    • Zeem

      Go on then.

      Hello,
Thank you for contacting Nintendo.

  • Tecnical Knowledge

yh Nintendo look like retards doing this as where they could make an update where u insert Mario Kart 7 3DS knowing its Mario Kart 7 Saying before you can play this game please update which will patch the game card not hard -.-

  • epicgameturtle

I used the glitch, then I took a CHERRY to the knee.

  • Manny

    Who cares?
If you can’t beat them, join them
    DUH.

    • Zeem

That seems to be Nintendo’s message here. They can’t stop everyone from using the exploit, so they’ll let everyone have the chance to take advantage of it.

    • Mollusc Man

      i did exactly the same.

i got really fed up with coming last and so literally practiced on time trial mode for hours until i learned how to beat them.

  • Nin-Sony Box

The way I found the glitch was by using a mushroom to hit the wall then fall down.
The problem is the respawn points, they are close to each other and intersecting/overlapping.

  • Brian (1246 8880 1183)

It really is annoying :( I learned the glitch because people used it on me and I was like wtf?! So I time trialed to find it and now I use it. I always random at level select though, I never pick maka anymore :( it was my favorite track. I always love it when someone else picks waka, (sometimes 4 or more people lol) and I get first :) always makes me happy mwa hahahaha. All we can do is play our friends and go on the honor system :( least the glitch is super easy to do and since everyone is learning about it it’s fair enough. still sad that a good track is ruined though :(

  • Derrick

People are going to hate me for this….

Can someone explain the glitch to me?

  • 3DSFan777

Well i can survive with it all i do is just say don’t choose maka wuhu couple ofbtimes and it will work there is 65% it will work

  • http://www.stringsavvy.com Thom

Removing a cheat glitch would “Create an unfair advantage?” Why does Nintendo insist on denying it’s fans?

  • papapat

well its already unfair that they are doing that because many people use that glich and they got points from it in online already

  • thatguyoverthere

Hmm, this makes me wonder if Nintendo can really handle online gaming, probably not.

    • Okami

Other than this glitch and the least problematic lag i’ve seen in an online game, mk7 online is extremely well done. So I respectfully disagree sir. Also ssfiv is so good! Not sure if nintendo or capcom controls that one but its very customizable and easy to use. Always always people to play in both those games. I just wish DOA servers were more like ssfiv :(

    • Zeem

They handle online gaming fine. The problem here is that an exploit in the track simply wasn’t discovered in QA.

This could, and does, happen to any game.

  • OldSchoolGamer

I think it’s awesome that there is a classic glitch like this…. like the ones in N64… we would spend hours trying to beat each other using the track-cutting glitches in that! Although this is far too easy to attain, as opposed to some in Mario Kart 64 (and no not Wario Stadium, which was the easy one).

  • Riccardo Brains

Once you get to a certain level hardly anyone picks it any more since everyone knows the glitch and there are better tracks to play.

I still wonder why they don’t just set their servers to pick a different track at random when Maka Wuhu wins the lottery, though.

  • Henry Anderson

It’s a shame they can’t fix it, but at the same time people don’t pick that course that often.

  • DSderp

I know i will get hate for this but…YAY!!!

  • Stargun

Nintendo have patched games before for example there was a problem in the coding of Pokémon ruby and sapphire, resulting in the berry glitch. This was when the internal clock stopped working so none of the timed events like berries growing would work. However you could patch these games by connecting to a newer Pokémon game which would detect the problem and fix it.

  • miiworld2

I recently was racing at that stage and on the bottom screen I could see all of the racers fighting over the shortcut by jumping on that water! Some ended up jumping on the other side!

    That was hilarious xD
But I still hate the glitch. Cheaters, all of ‘em >:(

  • Brandos12

They should have made it so the game cards can be updated through the internet, like xbox games.

    • http://www.technoguy720.tk/ technoguy720

I believe they have something like that.

  • Recoil

Can’t they somehow force people to download a patch when they connect to Nintendo’s servers?

  • Zeem

Maybe this will make the anti-snaking crowd shut up and realise what an actual exploit is. ¬¬

  • CD

Well…I guess “If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em” is in order.

    I think it’s majorly cheap.

And so is that f*ckin’ blue shell.

*Gives the finger to Miyamoto for the blue shell*

  • Naturetauren

Lol Nintendo you disappoint me. Better sell my 3DS instead..

  • Mountain Man

So they’re basically saying that they expect everybody to simply cheat on this track. Wonderful.

It wouldn’t be unfair if they figured out a way to fix it for everybody.

  • Totenkopftoast

The update could just delete the old record, then it’s fair again.

  • http://www.technoguy720.tk/ technoguy720

Why not patch the game via SpotPass as part of ghost data?

  • Aaron

i dont care about the time trial records…please fix it!!

  • Pikachu

Online updates anyone!? Also, Time Trials would be odd. :/

  • Calztchi

I think the guy talking thought that we meant update the physical cartridge. What they should do is send out a SpotPass update for it, and then just in case not everyone gets it make the update a requirement for racing online.

    • Johnny Blaze

      EXACTLY!

  • Geddings

maybe the glitch was intended :-p

  • mack

    what glitch?

  • Johnny Blaze

Here’s a better response…..BULLSHIT! It’s common knowledge that the 3DS can get updates that are stored on the SD Card. You mean to tell me that they cannot release an update for this game?
