There’s a rumor that a redesign for the 3DS is coming in 2012. In their usual fashion, Nintendo has referred to the reports “rumors and speculation.” Then again, that doesn’t necessarily mean much. But the reports of a redesign are a bit odd.

I think we should remember that 01net did get the Wii U and Nintendo then stated that it didn’t comment on rumors or speculation.

Really, jeff if we had a redesign to obsolete the old one it would fail because the 3ds is already at a cheap price, already has a wider screen, not to mention would make everyone rage, throw the 3ds away, and never buy from nintendo again if they released the new one so soon. Then nobody would develop for 3ds, and nintendo would be in even worse condition.

I still hope this stuff isn’t true because, for people who already have the system and want the redesign (not some accessory if that is true), they just can’t afford to buy a new system at this time. They could just go and trade it in for the new one at almost any store, but then they can’t keep their downloadable games that they purchased too.

well after about a year of being out third party companies usually make new batteries and i know for the fact that the psp had one because i bought a battery on ebay that made my psp last 16 hours…. they also made them for the ds

It;s called the Amazing World of Gumball and I would love to have a 3DS with better battery life, duel analog sticks, easier to handle 3D sweet spots and all that Jazz, but let’s wait a few years so people will have enough money to spend on it and to make it as good as you possibly can Nintendo.

what do you people mean by you hope there is no redesign of course there should be, 3ds’s cameras suck a** with only 0.3 megapixels and the battery life is kinda suckish and the screens get scratched from the bottom rim thing, I love my 3ds to death but a redesign would really be great (please put better cameras and battery nintendo) :D
But a 3DS cloth in your 3DS when you ever close in. plus they made battery packs, if they added more battery the 3DS would have to be bigger.
I’m happy with my 3DS and my games, so this dual circle pad has had a neutral effect on me. First-person-shooters (practially the only reason for a second pad) are just a waste of time to me. No depth at all.
Nintendo has been working on a redesign since the 3DS’ final design, it’ll be released in 2013 or late 2012 at the earliest. They did the same with the Gameboy Advance and DS, do you really think they finished the 3DS and called it a day?

I thought of very easy ways they could make CoD but they don’t care and frankly I don’t care too much about CoD but they could just make it so the only time your using the touch screen is when your switching guns and stuff like that but they could make it so the circle pad was for turning the camera around and to walk use A, B, X and Y buttons and shooting with R and zooming in with L and if you don’t want to use the touch screen to switch guns I guess they could make it so you use the control pad and thats what I think CoD could be like on the 3DS sense they think its impossible to make CoD on 3DS

If they added extra features, think about the games already out and what the new features could have done to those games. Nintendo wouldn’t do that to third parties. Plus that would be like the DS and DSi, they waited untill the DS had alot of choices in games. If they made a new version, people who bought the first 3DS will have like only 30 games to choose from.

I think that if true, the reason could be due to the identity crisis the 3DS is facing with the average joe. A resdesign which looks alot less like the dsi/ds console could help solve that.
As for the 2nd slide pad, I like the idea. I think its the only thing the 3DS is missing.
As a 3DS owner, ill happily trade up for dual slide pad 3DS. Or maybe keep the old model as a collectors item! Haha!

Whether the rumors are real or not, Nintendo in my opinion hasn’t cashed in on the current 3DS model. So it seems highly doubtful that they are working on a newer one set to be released 2012. This rumor would bear more merit with it if it didn’t specify the 2012 release date. But I do remain skeptical about the second slide pad. I don’t really think it’s necessary (that’s where the touch screen comes into play) But I think it’s smart by nintendo to always use the lines “rumors and speculations” think about it, it keeps consumers interested in what nintendo might or might not due, but the key is to keep interest. If a spokesperson for nintendo all of a sudden came out and announced that the rumors were phony, nintendo buzz for the moment: dead. It’s not until the next game event(whatever it may be) approaches that they openly deny or reveal the rumor for what it truly is/was.
I dont want a redesign, i think the 3DS looks great. And what is this second slider garbage, the 3ds can handle dual stick & FPS shooters. Besides i dont wanna play COD style games on the go , it kills the atmosphere of the game. Plus the minute the second slider comes into play waves of shovel ware will come with it.
also we need to demand (at gun point) super awesome Fzero 3ds. it fits perfectly, shoulda been at launch
