Important: The following information was sent in by NintendoStar, a reader of the blog, but I’m unclear on the source. Please do not take it as truth until I can find a source. I like to report on rumours because they’re fascinating and it’s exciting. There’s every chance in the world they’re inaccurate though.

Nintendo has unveiled the NES and GBA titles to be made available for free via the Ambassador Program for early adopters of the 3DS. They’ve also confirmed that the GBA titles will be available on December 4th, and re-iterated that the NES titles will be available on September 1st. Mario Kart: Super Circuit and WarioWare Twisted are set for a public release in 2012. The NES titles will see a public release on October 15th.

Update: Okay, to kill the buzz, here’s a few inconsistencies with the rumour:
- It was strongly hinted that Super Mario Bros. 3 would be on the list, but it’s not there.
- A lack of wireless functionality does have a pretty big impact on Pokemon Emerald.
- Minish Cap and Pokemon Emerald for free seem too good to be true.
- A public release for all the NES titles within a single day seems odd.

Pokemon Emerald will also be released to the public along with Mario Kart: Super Circuit and WarioWare Twisted. Pokemon Emerald and Mario Kart: Super Circuit will both be updated with Multiplayer modes in the near future, with a World Wide January release date..
I dunno about Pokemon Emerald. I’ve heard of all the features for GBA VC titles (or lack thereof ), such as no wireless support of any kind or any option to transfer caught pokemon to any of my DS versions, so I won’t be able to trade or battle anyone, thus cannot truly catch them all.

I really have a feeling this is fake. Why would they bring Wario Ware: Twisted along side Wario Ware: MMG? Why take the time to upgrade the motion controls on a game that’s technically already there instead of bringing some other Nintendo franchise into the spotlight?
And why bring Pokemon Emerald if there won’t be any multi-player?

I’m skeptical of Nintendo releasing all 10 of those NES games on the same date (for people paying for them) they seem to like to space those out.
I doubt this is legit, at least warioware: twisted. Nintendo said peripherals would not be supported, so we couldn’t have that game.
It clearly says in the article “WarioWare Twisted (Up To Date 3DS Motion Controls)”. You clearly wouldn’t need peripherals -_- It’d just use the built in gyroscope, instead of having to add one on like the GBA required.
The 3DS has motion controls (ex.: Pac-Man Twist) besides, it says it uses the up-to-date controls.

Seems legit. Although if they’ve got Emerald, that would lead me to believe they’re either not remaking RSE, or they made a terrible choice and should do FRLG instead. Or maybe they’re remaking the Hoenn games AND the Kanto games!

They never remake the third one… FireRed and LeafGreen, HeartGold and SoulSilver… I’m guessing something like EarthRuby and SeaSapphire lol it usually depends on what those characters represent like Lugia and Ho-Oh being about Heart and Soul.
Well my point is that it’s still a Hoenn game, so there isn’t much point. Releasing FR/LG makes much more sense.
Even if it IS true, that would mean ambassadors only get it, meaning its possible for a remake, as a new audience will be getting the 3ds but with no emerald IF THAT’S TRUE, seeing as there is no source. Personally, I don’t care about emerald or sapphire, I only care about my beloved ruby. But emerald and minish cap and mariokart super curcuit and metroid… If the first two, emerald and minish cap are coming… oh boy… we’re in for a treat…
Twisted is undoubtly the best WarioWare game in the series! Pure fun.

I would seriously LOVE to believe this list but…….I don’t think its real. For one, its is extremely odd that SMB3 is not included. That is one I would surely think Nintendo would give. And then there is Pokemon Emerald. We already know that these GBA ambassador games will not support wireless multiplayer stuff. It wouldn’t even be worth it to release this game without a trading or battling function. Thirdly, there is WarioWare Twisted. Now I want this game to be on the list A LOT! Seriously, I would absolutely love if Nintendo brought it with updated 3DS motion controls. Unfortunately, if i’m being realistic, I feel like Nintendo wouldn’t do that. Prove me wrong Nintendo! 1. Super Mario Ball is another name for Mario Pinball Land. I own the game, and it is actually extremely fun.
2. They wouldn’t release mario 3. Think about it. Sure, we’d be happy, but it would be much smarter to release it paid only. All the hardcore ninfans bought the 3ds early, so they know we’ll go and buy the game. It would be stupid for them to release it for free, since it’s one of their best games and many people are going to buy it.
3. Pokemon Emerald is a great game, and they probably would not re-release it otherwise.

If that’s true, then they are ripping us off with metroid, considering that when you beat fusion there is a version of the game unlocked.
you unlock the nes version of metroid for the gamecube game when you beat fusion and connect to a gamecube…
You can only unlock the nes metroid in the other gba game zero mission. This is why zero mission wasn’t on the confirmed list.

That said, if it is real. I take that all back but the GBA titles listed here have major features taken out and inconsistencies like Emerald’s not having every pokemon available due to version exclusives fron Ruby and Sapphire and the Gamecube games. I hear that The Amazing Mirror would be pointless without multiplayer. The selection also seems very odd and I don’t see 10 NES games being released to the public on the same day. Also, what happened to the heavily hinted Super Mario Advance 4?

They won’t remake it. They never remade yellow or crystal. If anything, they’ll remake ruby/Sapphire.
Since you say this is a rumour, I doubt Emerald will be on the list. We can’t connect to anyone meaning no trading or battling so we can’t get every pokemon.
I think we can collect some pokemons early and later trade & battle wirelessly when game updates are ready.
Yeah but there’s still Pokemon that you couldn’t get in Emerald, even by trading like Pokemon Colosseum and XD exclusive Pokemon. Kind of contradicts the main purpose of the game. Also, what do you mean by getting Pokemon early?

Maybe they’ll release GoldenSun for everyone.
But I think they’re gonna make all the GBA games into 3D classics(because almost all of the work has been done in the original format for GBA games).
That’s why the GameBoy Advance SP had a 3D screen with a built in backlight, but in the end they never utilized it back then.
I got that info about the GBA SP and GBA games from reading Iwata ask.
Sorry, but you are wrong. They only made a 3D screen, but never included it in the SP. So I doubt that any GBA games, except some used for testing the 3D screen, were made in 3D.

And I meant the very basis of the programming, as in they won’t have to do the programming from scratch because they intended to make them all in 3D, even doe they never did the rest of the programming required for the 3D part (unlike ExciteBike 3D, which was remade from scratch with none of the original programming being used at all).

Yeah, there are some major holes in this.
As said, Pokemon Emerald with no wireless is weird, but still manageable. However, Mario Kart and Kirby and the Amazing Mirror are completely useless without multiplayer.
WarioWare gets it’s very own gyroscope emulation, but they couldn’t get some simple wireless on other games? Two GBA WarioWare games is pretty suspicious already.

I’m pretty sure it’s fake. The fact that it has Zelda 2 and Super Mario Bros. 2(both very strange titles) and what pretty much confirms it fake is that wario ware twisted has motion controls. The GBA games will be run on GBA emulation from the DS mode(like a DS lite playing GBA games), so no 3ds features will be available(which is why you can’t use restore points or close it, or play multi-player) with that said… I really hope it is true :p

Im probably gonna get shot for this but ive never actually played pokemon emerald. Its the only game in the ENTIRE series i havent played and i think it would be a good experience for me.

Have you not noticed that all of the confirmed games are 1st party? Nintendo isn’t going to release another developer’s game for free. It’s just not going to happen. They’d have to pay the developer for it. They’re using existing, dated IPs for a reason.
Metroid Fusion is developed by the same guys that worked on Advance Wars and Fire Emblem.

According to my sources it was developed and published by Nintendo. Whereas those two games were developed by Intelligent Systems.
Golden Sun, Advance Wars and Fire Emblem are all first-party games.
Nintendo owns the rights to them and each franchise.
The developer to the Advance Wars and Fire Emblem games is a first-party studio, so technically speaking, they are a part of Nintendo.
The developer to the Golden Sun series is a second-party. Only a part of the studio belongs to Nintendo in terms of stocks, but they share a close partnership with each other.

I doubt Emerald. We all know that ruby saphire remakes are on the way, why would they release Emerald?
Because they never remade crystal did they? So they probably won’t remake emerald.
They didn’t remake Crystal, but they did remake Gold and Silver. They remake the original pairs, but not the third. They could probably be saving a remake for the third for future generations.
Ruby and Sapphire remakes are bound to come. A remake for Emerald will come long into the future, maybe.

Every game that doesn’t run in the same resolution as the 3DS will boot stretched (blurry) However, evero one of those games can also be booted in native resolution (with black bars or in the case of GameBoy games, with a nice Gameboy frame around. All you have to do is press and hold select or start while booting the game.

I have many doubts on Pokémon Emerald. The Houen region games are probably being remade by GameFreak for a Generation V release as we speak. Releasing Pokémon Emerald for free will just interfere with sales.
Not at all. People who liked the original will want a remake even if there is the original as download. Please take a look at the e-shop, you can buy Cave Story original as download.
Anyway remember that if they are doing a remake it won’t be emerald but it will have everything from emerald like Soul Silver and Heart Gold had from Crystal, except some differences that are gonna be made like point of view, thinking like this… To make two points of view featuring one of the Teams as main like in R/S but to keep everything from emerald would be some AWESOME work like almost doing two complete different games… And remember that every remake has it’s own awesome extra things, so expect it to be so good it will make a downloadable emerald not a real threat… =D

GBA Lineup, not bad. I woulda liked Mario & Luigi RPG, but oh well. Unfortunately, this gets a thumbs down because no multiplayer kills a few of those. Mainly Emerald.
The NES lineup was great,in my opinion,half of the NES games are from the simple era of the NES 1985-1987 and the others are in am evolved age of NES 1988-1993,and the GBA lineup is nice,but id like mother 3 take the place of mario pinball land

Super Mario Ball…there’s an odd one, didn’t see that coming.
One thing that makes me uncertain though is the Wario Ware Twisted updated for 3DS motion controls…..it just feels odd that with all the bare bones theme that seems to be going with these GBA games that they would do anything special for a gba game.
Although I guess it’s probably not that taxing to sort out….

every1, if you go to news in the nintendo eshop it says a website will be released next week about the ambassador program and youll be able to enter your 3ds serial number next week to veiw your ambassador account. Hopefuly the website will list the free games

Emerald with no connectivity would be no big deal for me. I played Sapphire for 8 years with no way to trade or battle with anyone else. It doesn’t ruin the game without it. It can stand alone. …at least, in my eyes. :)

To all of those saying Emerald will be a waste is not entirely true. Trading and battling will be unavailable yes and same for the Pal Park in Gen 4. However, there is another possibility. First off, Gen 4 (seeing as Gen 5 removed the Pal Park) are DS games. DS games did not feature 3DS stuff so obviously just having the game on your SD card is not enough for the game to think it’s in the GBA slot. Mainly because even if the game reads the SD card, there could be tons of GBA games in that one slot which would require a rewrite of the games in order to sort them out and select the right one. Nintendo can do two things 1) Have it so that when your at the main menu, you can put a GBA game in a virtual GBA slot. This will allow you to access GBA features in DS games. In this case, Pokemon. But this would also require a massive addition to the firmware and would be to much work for such old games. Which brings me to my next theory. Upon Game Freak’s next game (whether it be Grey or Gen 3 remakes and implying they will be for the 3DS) they could simply add a feature in that reads the SD card for any pokemon titles and transfers them over. Obviously theory 2 sounds much more plausable than theory 1.
Or none of this could be true and Emerald is probably not even on the list. As this is just a rumor. Oh and also look at it from this standpoint: The GBA games have no plans of being released to the public, however, if Emerald is able to use the 3DS’ wireless features then there is a high chance we could see the rest of Gen 3 on the eShop for the general public. Emerald would just be for Ambassadors. Maybe not so much Ruby and Sapphire though seeing as they lack the Wireless Adapter feature that FR/LG/E had and there is a possibility of a R/S remake. But FR/LG could show up. Nintendo makes a profit. Has theory 2 like I stated for the next game. And this easily turns into a win situation for Nintendo. But I am very disappointed in Nintendo for not releasing the game list before the price drop. I’ve had a 3DS since launch, but for some it was either price cut or 20 free random games that could suck terrible or be really good (And the GBA only had a few good ones). We only knew a few of them at the time being Metroid Fusion, MarioKart, and Yoshi’s Island. Only time will tell.
i agree i wanted a virtual GBA slot but it looks impossible and with the horizon of Pokemon gen 5 remakes etc i want a feature similar to what you have described but wireless not available just doesnt sit right with me i would love to play through the gba games with wireless like the adapter for FR/LG had but Nintendo still seems like they are working out the kinks and while i hope that add it i am very unsure
FACT: Nintendo is not a god seeing as though the translation of the japanese word “nintendo” means leave luck to heaven which makes perfect sense because when nintendo was founded in the late 1800′s they made playing cards….thats a bit of history for ya!

Sure the exclusivity could just be “waffle,” as you put it, and chances are, some of the games will be released down the road, but I wouldn’t expect announcements of public release for months, maybe even a couple years. Certainly not the instant the full list is announced.
The 10 gba games that are going to be given to ambassadors are gonna be exclusive(or so they say). That doesn’t mean that all gba games would be exclusive; they could release other gba games to the public.

There’s no way this list is true, Donkey Kong Country should be on there. Considering Rare still make games for Nintendo portables. There not a single Donkey Kong on that GBA list. plus why would they have two Wario Ware games, not say Wario Ware sucks but they could have put a better game (Donkey Kong Country) there. It’s just made by a fan who want’s attention!

Honestly guys, just saying “No source means fake” doesn’t mean that everyone else will think that as well. I could be fake, but i may be real. I am in the middle myself, but i will just hope that it is real, and will be excited, but also be prepared to hear that it is fake. It isn’t possible to know right now, but we will know soon enough.
Also, I can’t see why nintendo can’t add wireless capabilities to Emerald, because they have added new things to remakes before. In the GBA remake of The Legend of Zelda, they retranslated quite a bit.

I believe you Dave, some of these games do seem rather odd. I was always under the impression that most of the Pokemon could be caught in Emerald since it was the third release of Hoenn. But the other GBA games seem too good as well.

Damn Nin10DOH make it feel worthwhile that we early adopters of the 3ds paid more for your product… putting out VC versions of games with crappy features isnt appealing to me, if you want it to feel worthwhile make it to were we can use wireless and use sleep and all the stuff u should be able to do for crying out loud, and if there is a software conflict or a reason why you cant can you atleast tell us the damn consumer that bought your product! But i do love the selection of games you have and with the right features i wont feel like i wasted my time.. plz Nintendo i love you to much to feel disappointed

I like pokemon emerald but I think i like pokemon LG/FR a little better..
Nintendo needs to get at Konami and have Contra (NES) released in reiterated 3D! I’d also love to see SNES games, I would definitely fork over $10-$15 for a reiterated 3D Super Mario Kart with Wi-Fi multiplayer :D
oh and with all the N64 remakes coming up…I’d would freakin love to have Paper Mario 64 3D and Conker’s Bad Fur Day 3D.

Wow. I hope this is all true. I wanted to get Kirby games as one or a few of the free games. And I’m happy to see that the original Super Mario Bros. is actually going to be a free Ambassador game. This is coming from one of the 830,000 3DS ambassadors.
MKUltra didn’t count those comments, in the top left corner of the article, you can see how many there are. But, I agree with you, I also really wanted 1 or more Kirby games :) But how do you know that there are 830,000 Ambassadors?
What the hell is wrong with you guys? There will be an update to these games with multiplayer, so if Emerald comes out then WE WILL HAVE MULTIPLAYER LATER ON! :D
