Nintendo also holding an event in New York City on January 19th?

This is interesting. After a bunch of gaming press received invites to a press event in Amsterdam on January 19th, there’s apparently further invites floating around for an event in New York City on the same day. Here’s the direct quote from Escapist Magazine:

> Similar invites have gone out to North American gaming press about an event in New York City on January 19. Nintendo has been mum about the specific North American and European release dates for the 3DS so far, so it isn’t hard to guess what it could be announcing at these events.

Even though Nintendo won’t be exhibiting at CES 2010, I thought that’s when we’d get the release date and price of the Nintendo 3DS. But it sounds like January 19th may be the magical day.

    I expect the price to be released sometime before February, because that’s when it would be the smartest to start an ad campaign. That’s what helped Kinect out; if it wasn’t for the huge amount of ads they released they wouldn’t have gotten half their sales.

    I was playing with some numbers and I think it is worth while to point out that 250$ is a reasonable guess to 3ds price. When the original Ds cam out it sold in the US for 150 and in japan for 180. The difference is about 16%. when the dsi came out it sold for 169 in the US and 211 in Japan. the difference is 20%. The 3ds is starting in japan at 300$ if the price is lowered 16% it would be 252$ if it is lowered 20% like the dsi it would cost 240$. I was just righting to point out food for thought and to give you numbers to support some predictions. Thank you for your time. I love your blog.
