New Super Mario Bros. 2 is coming to the 3DS this August

Nintendo has announced that a new Mario game known as New Super Mario Bros. 2 will be coming to the 3DS in Japan and North America this August. You can check after the break for the first screenshots.

They made Street Fighter 4 3d and its pretty much a 2D game.Then there is rayman origins, Tekken 3D, TinTin: The Game, Sonic Gen, Shinobi, Cave Story, Tetris, and a lot more. There is NO WAY that they aren’t going to make this 3D on a 3D system :P

      @ people below (or above?) don’t worry. From the alst trailer you can see Luigi’s Mansion 2 is way too far in development to NOT come out this year. Actually I’m pretty sure they said it was. I’m more worried for Paper Mario (on how different or not) the game is because we’ve barely seen anything and what we have seen was quite a long time ago.

      TheUltimateKoopa that was just way out of line. In no way did I think or say that NSMB2 would be released soon. I know the difference between development and releasing, unlike the millions of children who roam this site. Mario games have been quoted to be easy to make and dont take very much time. (I believe it was Satoru Iwata who said it, but I’m not completely sure). Anyways, all I have seen is an unconfirmed amazon release date for animal crossing 3DS, I haven’t seen the Nintendo Direct mentioned earlier but I’ll look into that. Just please calm down, learn some self restraint and don’t assume I’m a brainless troll who knows nothing about video games.

      Oh and just as a clarification, I haven’t seen any of the Nintendo Directs, but all information announced aside from the Nintendo directs are just small bits and pictures, the biggest being the town layout. I’ll look into the information from the Nintendo Directs right now though.

    Thank god, Super Mario Land 3D was seriously over rated!

    THe camera and controls didn’t work well for it.

    The only thing now is that it better have pixel precise controls or it just a waste.

    I hate it when they tone down Mario’s Agility…which is why I don’t like New super mario bros Wii more than the DS version.

      i can see this game being more enjoyable than both, animal crossing might be more addicting, but wont give you as much joy as new super mario bros 2, i remember how fun the original was! and how well i sold, this is a great move by nintendo, heres hoping this becomes the 3DS’s best selling game also, that would be funny.

    I’m glad that this is coming out in August, because I have no other games in my collection to beat yet, except Mario Kart 7 which I am trying to 100%. I hope that they change the Tanooki Suit design for it though, because Mario kinda looks stupid without the entire suit on.

    The LAST good overworld map was Super Mario World.

    New Super Mario Bros was just too linear, with hardly any real branching paths, just one level and then you’re back on the main path. New Super Mario Bros Wii was just the same. Super Mario 3D Land was … a line.

    I want one that has nice paths, with lots of branching paths, leading to lots of secret areas, not just like World 1-2 leads to either World 1-3 or 1-A, and then both of those lead back to World 1-4, but, like well, something like Super Mario World, or even A Super Mario World Central Production.

      But hey, you’ll have an impressive library when the 3DS’s lifespan comes to a close about 6 years from now. The 3DS has only been around just over a year now, and I already have 5 3DS games and 4 downloadable 3DS games.

      I have a GameCube with 20 games built up over the course of only 3 years (2003-2006), but I have a Wii with only 8 games, built up over the course of 6 years… It tells you what kind of games I like.

      I don’t like FPS or Mature games, but I love Nintendo’s heavy focus on their own IP. ^-^ That’s why I loved the GameCube so much, and why I love the 3DS so much right now.

    This… looks far more fun than the first NSMB.

    Don’t get me wrong, I really dig that game, but it was very SMB1 in its simplicity (not spartan or barren, just simple) and occasional controller-throwing frustration between very easy parts.

    Just from this things look more varied and entertaining to play.

    But if there’s another damned moving snake-block level I’ll defecate in a box and send it to the level designers.

    I know some people are pissed that this is releasing before animal crossing and luigis mansion, etc. even though they announced them first, but they already have all the set pieces from the wii version. All they have to do is program a few new things like the p wing, make it work on the 3ds, and make cutscenes. Then all they gotta do is make levels. So I mean, how long could this really take a whole team at nintendo to do. I’m sure they could milk the crap out of nsmb, but they don’t want to ruin the series. This has probably been in development for less than a year.

      That’s not true. The PSP Go was a failure due to the fact it didn’t use physical copies of the games. Not only that, but the PS Vita is undoubtedly a glorified version of the PSP. The PSP failed on many parts, and the PS Vita is an attempt at fixing those issues. The only issue now is that the PS Vita needs more games and a wider range of genres to play, like the 3DS.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 is only going to get more people to buy the Nintendo 3DS and I am willing to bet that this is going to be the best seller like how New Super Mario Bros. was on the Nintendo DS.     And there’s just one thing that bothers me…The Super Leaf would give Mario the Toonooki Suit in Super Mario 3D Land and here it appears that the Super Leaf gives Mario the Racoon Tail (as it should be). This is going to cause confusion to gamers before the 90s, no?

    I want throwing vegetables to come back and some vehicle levels live Super Mario Land. Oh and lets keep the Yoshi we find after the levels been completed like Super Mario World however thats asking for too much

    I wonder what the 3D is going to look like. If it is really going to pop out at you or not. That will be cool if it does pop out. I dont know about you guys, but I am very excited about having a New Super Mario Bros 3DS. I bought the Wii version and I loved it. I never bought the original DS version, but I have played it. I really hope that this game includes the online features. I know that local play is guaranteed to come. I wonder if it is going to be 4 players, or 2 players. And if it is 4 players, I wonder if the Toads will come back. But either way, I am ready for this game.

    Jumping to different layers like DKCR
    New power ups like a Shroomba and Monkey Flower
    Veichle levels like in Super Mario Land (Except with Yoshi)

    Half of the people here are hyping this game, while the other half are calling it lazily made based on 4 screenshots and are complaining about the lack of info from AC (Yet there was some news just recently), PM and LM2, yet they don’t know that nintendo always saves the best info for E3.

    I really want this to be harder. All of the recent Mario games are so easy, they aren’t as fun. Anyway, I hope this turns out to be more like classic Mario, but I think if Online Multiplayer gets put into the game in some form, it would be more fun. Who agrees?
