(This post has nothing to do with the 3DS, but you can scroll down the home page to find the news which will continue as usual.)
For the past three months I’ve been working with a developer and a designer to build Subscriptions. It’s a free app for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch that provides a better way to watch your YouTube subscriptions.
And this is where I begin my plea.
This app has just launched and its success in the App Store depends on its ranking. The higher the rank, the more downloads it will receive. But, the ranking is believed to be done on a rolling three-day basis. This means that, in three days from now, the ranking of the app will reset and it could disappear into App Store oblivion.
Luckily, the solution to this is simple: get lots of downloads within three days.
If this is achieved, the app will move up in the rankings, and that ranking will be sustained as people find the app without me telling them to check it out. This makes the app a success and, as a result, magical flying unicorns will appear out of thin-air at your door-step. Guaranteed.
As such, it’d be super-duper awesome if you could click here and download the application from the App Store. I’d love if you played around with the app because I do think it is awesome, but all downloads are counted, so it doesn’t matter if you download the app and never use it. The ranking will still rise.
There’s nothing I can offer in exchange for downloading the app (aside from the awesomeness of the app, of course) as that’s against the rules of the App Store. But if you like this blog, or the videos, or the forums, it would be a most lovely thing for you to download the app. Heck, even if you hate me, download it anyway so you can find a flaw with it. It’s all good.
With that in mind though, this is only the first version. There’s a lot of cool features I have planned for the coming weeks and months. And now I can only hope I’m not the only one who wanted this app.

Apple is greedy and cares little for its fans. They release a “new” device every year that is the same thing as the device they released last year with a tiny power boost. Even so, a bunch of fanboys, like the owner of this blog to out and spend an outrageous amount on them. I pity the fools.
Now I know how you can afford such a nice place to live, vacations around the world, and other such expensive things. You are a scammer!!!

I use android myself, and the youtube app for that is pretty good. You’d be pretty hard-pressed to develop a better one, although if Subscriptions comes out for it, I’ll definitely check it out and give you a comparison report!
Ok David, I got the app and gave it five stars, but honestly it won’t even let me sign in to begin the app…
I was actually looking for an app like this. The youtube app on the iPad is good, but looking through subscriptions can be a bit of a chore (especially if you have alot and are looking for one particular thing), so this is really cool. David, will you developing anything else for iOS, perhaps some games or other utilities?

Dang it, why is this only on iOS? I have an Android device… and so far, being able to help out David by downloading this app is the only reason I want an iDevice at all. Not trying to start a flame war (they’re pretty good), but they’re just not my thing.

Well that would have been plausible if the 3DS supported Youtube or had an application development platform (Devkit) that costed between $5,000 – $10,000 (believe it or not Nintendo is one of the only companies who still uses this ancient business model).

Guys I know this may not be the place to talk about this. But there is new news out of Nintendo:
Nintendo Network has been officially announce, and it will have an account system.
Nintendo has also said the Wii U is going to support NFC (near field communication) which allows it to do things like use figurines just like how Square Enix did with the new Spyro game.

It’s not fantastic for handling lots of subscriptions just yet, but that’ll be fixed in the next couple of updates. :)

um…Yeah it is. Nintendo lost hundreds of millions of dollars this year, while Apple made almost 47 billion dollars. Nintendo is in danger, and David is using his extremely popular Nintendo blog to advertise for himself, which is bad enough, but it is supporting Apple, not Nintendo.
Nintendo lost most of their money because of the strong Yen – not because Apple sold heaps of iPads/iPhones.
The 3DS sales speak for themselves, Nintendo is still going strong in the handheld market, the exchange rates are killing their profits – Apple and Android are not killing the Handheld market (Nintendo’s market).

Ok after trying the app i want to recommend some features for the future. First of all orientation lock, i use my iPhone mostly on bed and i am annoyed if my apps get past the top orientation. Also a comment/like/favourite functionality would be great!! And maybe push notifications for new videos or even more notifications on new videos on specific channels nintendo3ds as a default offcourse ;) Anw nice app David hope to see more.

Downloaded it. Not a huge fan of Apple, but I am a huge fan of this blog. I probably won’t ever get a chance to use it though, seeing as it is my sisters’ iPods that the app was downloaded to. I do have one question, though. What programming language is used for iPod apps?

Hmmm… seems good, but I have trouble logging on. I enter my google account, a white screen pops up, and it takes me back to the page where it says “Suscriptions” and asks me to log in. Please fix this, because I (and many others) really want to use this.
