You’ll have to wait until June before you get your hands on *Ocarina of Time 3D*, but for now feel free to lust after a solid batch of comparison screenshots after the break that really highlight the radical improvement in the graphics.

In case you haven’t heard master quest on the 3DS was “CONFIRMED” in an interview at GDC there was an article on it on IGN and G4.
Are you sure the master quest has been fully conf.? I don’t think they announced it officially…
It hasn’t been officially confirmed, but it came from a nintendo rep whos been with the company for a long time… so he could have let it slip before nintendo was ready to announce it, but then again he could be wrong….
I’d love the water temple, can’t wait to do it again
^^got a jokester over here^^
haha like ^
Just seeing images of it makes me want to curl up in a corner, maybe turn The Cure on just for effect, and cry. I’m convinced the water in that temple was made out of the tears of the countless children who spent months trapped in it, cursing their official strategy guides for its ineptitude. As much as I’m looking forward to this remake, I’m also working on my Nancy Kerrigan impression for that temple.”WHY!!!!!!!”
The water temple was awesome!I loved it!!!It was challenging and inventive. The only downside was switching the iron boots, but it wasn’t a big deal. Can’t understand why people are always crying about it,can’t you take some challenge?
We played it when we were 8 beat it when we were 10 get the picture?
hahaha i was born in 1991 and beat it after the end of the year, the water temple was super confusing and frustrating, but i liked it
it looks like the 3ds version is alot more colorful and vibrant
while that may be true, with the 3D effect it will show up darker. You see this a lot in 3D movies when they layer the screens to get the 3D effect it makes the whole movie look darker and sometimes muddier. However with all of that, it will probably be brighter still.
The movies don’t actually get darker at all, the film roll is the 3D version of the movie with full colour, projected through polarised filter onto the screen, the glasses are also polarized. Put on some 3D glasses and look into a mirror or window, then close 1 eye. They’re designed to filter light but its hugely complicated to explain fully.
YESSS!!!!! thats just so awesome. was totally whislting the Kokiri Forest theme while looking at these
ditto
I wasn’t whistling it, but reading this comment made me notice it was subconsciously playing in my head the whole time!
looks good!
Very good pics. I think its time to save every cent out of anticipation.
Nice comparisons, OOT 3D looks a lot brighter than OOT 64. Looks great, but hope they fix that water.
Also, I love how you can see the water reflections on the wall in the Water Temple, a nice touch.

IMHO some textures look much better in the original. there should be more fog in some places too.
I agree. The water textures in Kokori (64) look better to me than they do on the 3DS. Same with the fog in the Ghoma battle. Some areas seem a little too bright and colorful, (Ghoma fight again) the Phantom Gannon fight could use a darker atmosphere. But in all honesty it doesn’t matter because this game looks fantastic so far, I’m eagerly awaiting its release.
@anonomouse that’s just the nostalgia talking, although the water does look a bit off
It may be the case that the water only looks realistic when it’s moving, or it could be that the original textures where wallpapered from real photos, OR it could just be nostalgia.
Well… I believe that everything that we think is not right… Maybe it’s because we are not seeing it in the 3DS… So… Better wait than say something is bad… =/
Anyway I am really looking for this… =D
I’m excited about this game!
We all are.
I think a better way to phrase it would be,
Aren’t we all?
woot they did a good job on the graphics for the 3ds this is a buy for me
David nice comparisons
Ooh, David check this link out. It’s about Dead or Alive Dimensions…
http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/impressions/25648
LoLz, the spider webs in the 3DS verzion look like Bogers XD
WOAH, there is a HUGE difference!!!!!!!!!!!!! i LOVE how the 3DS graphics look like!!! xD lol srry for all the “!”
A lot of these photos look like cinematic shots instead of like actual gameplay shots. Oh well still cool.
if by a lot you mean 1 out of the 13. none of these are cinematics -.-
Either way, the cutscene graphics were the same as the gameplay graphics.
It’s because there is no item icons on the main screen this time, thats all on the touch screen. It’s just the button commands and life on the top screen as far as I know and cos the 3DS is widescreen.
this is great. i remember playing the original and having trouble making out certain shapes or figures. hopefully Castle Town is better looking. Not that running around on a picture wasn’t fun and all ;)
ha. :) that made my day
This remaster’d version looks sexy.
Still waiting eagerly for the 27th…
Li’l over 2 weeks left…
It’s nice to see such subtle updates to what is already an extremely beautiful and detailed game. It seems as if they actually took the time to redo textures to give the game a smoother more modern feel. Any thing less would be lame but anything more would kill the originality. Which, is obviously what they were aiming to keep perfectly in tact… Hopefully I can still beat the whole thing in under 4 hours…XD
I don’t understand; I thought the graphics were supposed to be better? Looking at the “OoT Comparison 9″ picture, the Skullfos (I think I may have butchered the name) looks like utter poop compared to the N64 version. What gives? :(
You did butcher the name, its Stalfos, and I think they look fine.
No, their models are still clunky and the textures look stretched, they do look pretty terrible. My guess is they were meaning to show off only Link, and accidentally grabbed one with enemies, who they have only placeholders for at this point.
WOW The camera angles makes it look soo EPIC!!! doesnt it?!
Pic 11 -> O.o that guy got more stuff… well… I can’t wait to see the shadow temple! I hope it gets creepier.
NOOOO! i mean… i really dont want to pee my pants, but really im just joking, the shadow temple is cool, stupidly hard and fun. :) have a good day sir Lucas.
Stop taunting me!!! I wish I could get this, but I can’t now that I’m buying a new laptop.
This is definitely top priority.
Looks excellent.
NO the Water Temple!
Can’t wait to see Navi’s trip to Link’s house at the beginning of the game in 3D, and also the beautiful Princess Zelda.
LOL Why no to the water temple? You do know the menu is on the touch screen now right? All you do is tap on the iron boots and they’re on just like that. lol
Playing through Water Temple on this game is gonna be the best two hours of my life
lol
you know, it does look a lot better than the n64 version, but it could’ve looked even better than that given the power of the system.
The probable reason it doesn’t look “better” as people keep saying, is because they still want it to have similar style of graphics because that’s Ocarina of Time’s style. If it was all Twilight Princess style, it would be beyond recognition. Plus, I’m guessing the water is because they’re taking inspiration from Skyward Sword and making the water look more bright and fluid rather than realistic, they want it to look like an adventure.
It’s a good thing the graphics aren’t amazing, i want this game to come out soon so they can start making a NEW zelda game for 3DS :D
Craig, have you ever seen a real water fall before? It looks more realistic on the 3DS version.
@Tipsd9video
……That’s really stupid.
i hope they can have both graphics (new and old). original graphics and controls will bring back more memories. besides, good graphics makes games more boring, at least for me. for example i cant watch someone play halo without me falling asleep or even play donkey kong country returns more then i can play donkey kong country. i dont know why people even like good graphics to be honest.
Nostalgia much?
I love the old scool graphics
It’s not good graphics that are boring, it’s realistic graphics that are boring lololol
It’s Beautiful!!
The N64 version looks so much worse now.
I’m so glad there’s a June release. Hopefully just in time for a trip to Spain. Ocarina of Time in my pocket has always been a dream for me. Now this dream has come true. In 3D.
Im not gonna lie i’m kinda disappointed with the new game. Don’t get me wrong I will definantly be picking this up the day it comes out but the game is too bright… part of what made the first game so great was the fact that it was really earie and now they made it all bright and cheerful… not the ocarina of time i remember…
OH. . .MY. . .GOSH. . .i’ve said all I can say
Any reports on whether or not the music was remastered as well?
Seems like the music will be a direct rip from the original, with an exception of the remixed fire temple music
From the demos I’ve heard, it all sounds the same (music and sound effects). But one game summary I read said the music is re-mastered. That might just mean nicer MIDI instruments though. Just like the graphics style, they may not want to change the overall sound too much either.
For anyone who still doubts they’re doing any real graphical updates to this game, I only need to say this: No wallpaper backgrounds!
Seriously, it was about time! Aside from wide-open spaces like Hyrule Field, it always felt like I was in a room. The Kokiri forest shots were the best confirmation of this fact.
It looks like they greatly enhanced the color palate but didn’t really do too well on the graphical department (looks similar to an early Gamecube game). I’d rather they make the game in Twilight Princess style, but what’s done is done.
Well for a Nintendo hand-held title (a launch title at that) to look like an early GCN title, I’d say that’s pretty damn awesome!
it’s supposed to stay true to the original. >.>
Wow, I forgot how dark the original was. I swear the GCN Masters quest version was more colourful though. Probably just my imagination. I wish I still had the original GCN masters quest but this gives me an awesome reason to re-buy and never let it go again! This HAS to be the final re-release of this game.
It’s not just a graphical update! We also benefit from years worth of art and design experience. Look at the composition and camera placement (I know that’s changeable by the user but the camera is controlled to a certain degree), look at the lighting improvements, not to mention the value distribution in every environment.
I do hope these screen weren’t edited too much though, I guess David can confirm if the screens are true to the actual gameplay of OoT 3DS (which I’m certain they will be).
Haha, I remember seeing the first screenshots of MGS 3 and Kingdom Hearts on the official 3DS website and thinking, “They’re not a true representation of the 3DS in-game graphics! Are they?!”
TBH I don’t think the 3ds on is all that good graphics wise :\
go take a look at DOA, the resi evil games and SF4
N – OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
needs more fog needs more darkness needs more worse graphics needs more 64 bit. THIS AINT MY CHILDHOOD
u have to remember that its for ppl thats new to the series too,
I am no zelda fan. But the graphics are a lot better in the new version.
woa that’s well done :) I was afraid they would improve the graphics in a way that It would have lost his soul.
But now,…wow…I love it! :)
that indeed does look a lot better.
Good thing Nintendo isn’t doing any sloppy port.
once i get my 3ds.. i can wait till june
the new pictures remind me a lot of the zelda demo from spaceworld 2001.
they really improved the characters , but some of the stuff like the fence in lonlon ranch or the poles in the boss fight with phantom ganondorf still has a n64-look or a 2D paper feel
as said before, they are keeping some of the original elements of the n64. i think this will be epic and ill preorder it.
Those are not elements that you keep when you remake a game. Music, game flow, script. Those are what you keep, not low res or pre-rendered graphics. There’s little doubt that the game will end up even more amazing than the original, but don’t apologize for Nintendo’s (would be) missteps. The things vito16 pointed out are things that I noticed right away, without looking for problems, so it’s something that needs to be improved.
They really have improved the graphics and i can’t wait to play it. Not played the original other than watching my mate on his N64, so this will be a first for me.
You know, I wonder if it was a good idea to buy Ocarina of Time on my Wii’s Virtual Console so recently… because I know I’m going to be playing THIS more than that. I mean look at this! If the original game has a perfect 10/10 on a gaming site, and this is even BETTER, they’ll have to break the rules and give this an 11!
… you also have to consider the time… the first was amazing graphics for its time and this is only average in respect to todays terms… oh well maybe they’ll add the 2 missing temples they had developed for the original game but had to cut…
Nice!
I agree the water temple was challenging but stop crying already it wasn’t that bad. Also OoT was probably the last really challenging Zelda. I hope they add to the master quest also, since I played through both several times it would be nice to have new content to play.
