In a statement sent to Joystiq, Nintendo has confirmed that “Nintendo’s short-form video service that delivers special video content for Nintendo 3DS systems will launch in North America later this summer.” This is the same Nintendo Video that has launched in Europe and Japan, but with its own content unique to the region. It is also mentioned that support for Netflix will be arriving “soon,” but that’s as specific as it gets.

The full quote is after the break.

Nintendo’s short-form video service that delivers special video content for Nintendo 3DS systems will launch in North America later this summer. In addition, Netflix members who have an unlimited plan starting at $7.99 a month and access to a broadband wireless Internet connection will soon be able to download a free Netflix application that allows them to watch movies and TV shows on their Nintendo 3DS systems at no extra charge. These services will add to the wealth of games and entertainment content currently available via the Nintendo eShop.

So even though North Americans have to wait a little longer I think they’re getting the better deal.

  • Han Solo

    Sweeet! US FTW!

    • Animal Crossing

      Thats Right! Lol

    • Kaizar

And nintendo said 3D content is coming soon to Netflix.

  • Unknown

If only they can say when :[ well at least we're still getting it and soon :]

  • Joseph

Now you guys can stop complaining. >:(

    • rod

No we can’t! We’re Americans! We complain about stuff we love! It’s in our nature! We’ll never stop!
Besides Europe already has a confirmed release date! >:T

    • http://3dsblog jester

Peter Griffin: ” NO! bad Joseph, we Americans love to complain. That’s why we have everything we need.”

    • http://3dsblog jester

I’m half American (& half Mexican) so i only complain half as much as these people do.

    • rod

      haha, high-five! Me too man.

    • Noah

Europe doesn’t only have a release date, they already have it >:P

    • sam3ds

Some of you are complaining WAY to much. Europe gets less things than you, and Australia is even worse! And the Worst is South Korea, who get games SO late. Americans are usually the first or second to get things.

    • http://3dsblog jester

      @ rod
were you talking to me? Cuz ill be glad if you were Mexican American.

    • http://www.youtube.com/flyinglevel Nick Knack

your wrong! EU/UK got the DSiXL first, and don’t forget about operation rainfall. Also pokemon HG/SS got the worlds fastest translation ever and came out B4 NA/UK/AUS. UK games work on an AUS system, and aparently UK CN codes work on the AUS CN,

  • Dae

But I don’t have netflix and I can’t get it.

  • Jbluna

on a lighter note Happy 30th birthday Donkey Kong!…dont know if it was today or yesterday though

    • JackVanElraton

It’s weird to think that Mario and Donkey Kong are a year younger than I am, and that Link, Zelda, and Samus are all six years younger than I am.

    • http://OperationMoogle.wordpress.com/ Brian L.

      DK! DK! DK!

  • Adam

    Will netflix be in 3d?
does everything need to stream 1:1 or can I wait 15 mins at the start of all videos to prevent buffering.?

    • Brandon

Netflix will not be in 3D, and I am sure we will be able to wait for videos to load before watching them. The Netflix application on the Xbox 360, my Sony Blu-ray Player, and online all let you do that, along with the videos on the eShop.

    • Kaizar

Actually netflix is making the existing 3D movies that are already on DVD come to us Netflix users in Nintendo’s style of 3D and you can only watch 3D netflix with a 3DS but they haven’t say whether this exclusive 3D Netflix service will come out on the start of the launch or later this year for us 3DS owners, but people who have 3D T.V.s won’t be able to watch anything in 3D on Netflix; which will probably increase the sells of the Nintendo 3DS a little.

    • Cosmo Black FTW

@Kaizar: Can I get a link to that info? Or how did you find out about this?

    • Kaizar

I got the either from this site OR from watching nintendo E3 2010 YouTube videos on YouTube.com, but NOT from Nintendo YouTube channel or maybe it was that channel not sure.

Just use the search engine in YouTube.com for the video footage (I think it was Reggie who said this).

  • KidIcarus

Aww yeah. We’re getting Netflix… IN AMERICA!
    BANDIT KEITH FTW!

    • James

      I like that statement…

      …in America.

    • rod

      YAAAAAAY Yu-gi-oh abridged!

  • ManByMyles93

    Netflix in 3D? Sounds nice.

  • Roxas

    @KidIcarus …but he’s Canadian!

    • KidIcarus

      Canadian…. IN AMERICA

  • Angel792

Well now with the changes that Netflix is going to do in September that we have to pay $16 because they are going to split the DVD and Streaming service they are going to lose a lot of customers. Maybe im going to cancel my membership but im going to change it to steaming only, im always watching movies and anime on my Wii and i really want to watch movies on the 3DS.

  • Random Furry Dragon

    FLIPNOTE MEMO WHEEEEEENNNNN!!!!????!??

    DX

    • spencer

      lol…they don’t know what they’re doing and that’s silly.

  • http://3dsblog jester

  • http://fscompany.webs.com/ seguraf11

  • Bluu

Thank God! Finally It better be Early August Because school starts August 29th For me.. and 25th for my Cuz so late summer is Early August! Gimme Netflix and My Videos !!

  • Noah

Does anyone know if you will be able to download the Netflix movies to your 3DS/Netflix application so you don’t have to stream/be connected to internet to watch?

  • Noah

Does anyone know if you’ll be able to download the movies from Netflix straight to the 3DS/Netflix application so you can watch without an internet connection/without streaming? It would be nice to be able to watch the movies on road trips/planes. This might be a stupid question that everyone knows but i’ve never used Netflix so I don’t know what services they offer…

    • Noah

      oops didn’t know i posted twice :)

    • brenflood

Netflix streaming does not allow you to download anything on any system currently available for it.. I would be very surprised to see them let you do so in the future.
I would hope the 3ds eventually lets you put your own files on it and play them back, but I haven’t seen anything about that in the works.
At least then you could rip your dvds and convert them to a friendly format like many already do with their PSPs, Ipods, Ipads, Netbooks, Smartphones, Etc.

  • tu

Can you keep the movies or u can only watch them ?

  • Kaizar

Does anyone know when the 3D netflix service comes out on the 3DS Netflix app.

I’m hope it’s at the start of the service on the 3DS, but we might have to wait 1 to 3 months to watch 3D netflix movies.

So does anyone know when they will bring the 3D movies to Netflix as they already promised in E3 2010 exclusively for the 3DS owners only (sorry people who own 3D T.V.s, but you never getting it).

  • Ben

Soon = “as late as we possibly can”

Seriously. That’s ALWAYS what it means. For games, albums, movies, everything….

  • SAAAAAAAAAM!!!!!

I’m looking forward to watching Weeds on my 3DS…..

  • Nin10doh98

I heard a rumor that Netflix was coming out 7/17. Just a rumor. I’m not a 100% sure.

  • nintendoandsegafan

    wasn’t netfliex $ 7 bucks

  • Person

netflix just jacked their prices up

    • JackVanElraton

Netflix’s new pricing won’t be in effect until on and after September 1st. But yeah, $7.99 USD per unlimited streaming, or unlimited one DVD at a time per month.

    • http://3dsblog jester

$16 for both DVDs & online streaming. $7 for DVDs

  • Max

    Great.

Now where’s the 3D video recording at? :P

    • Kaizar
