More screenshots, footage and details from Kid Icarus: Uprising

Nintendo of America has revealed there is a feature in Kid Icarus: Uprising known as ‘Fiend’s Cauldron’ that allows you to increase the intensity of the game at the cost of hearts. Players are able to gain more hearts and more powerful weapons as the intensity increases, so there is a benefit to increasing the level. However, losing in a chapter will cause you to lose hearts and will cause the intensity level to decrease. It was also shared that Kid Icarus as a 3D Classic will be a preorder bonus through certain retailers in North America.

    But…wasn’t it supposed to be free over Club Nintendo if you registered three games? I don’t do pre orders.

      Why not? Pre-orders are the best! You get occasionally get bonuses and they save you a copy so even if they get sold out, you still get your game. I’m gonna pre-order the Wii U at my local GameStop the first chance I get so all i have to do is pick it up when it’s released. I’m personally hoping for a midnight launch :)

      If it’s through Gamestop, then I had KI:U pre-ordered months ago and should get KI as a bonus.

      I don’t bother with Gamestop anymore after they charged me full retail even after I put down 10 dollars on my SM3D Land game pre order. Plus, their bonuses are bull shit; half the time it’s only 15-20% the strategy guide for the game. I may still pre order, but probably from Target or Amazon

    I’ll consider this if they release a Demo. Otherwise, I doubt i’ll shell out $40 on a blind purchase. At least with Mario, you know it’s gonna be good before you even see footage :)

      That comment wasn’t ignorant, and he’s not trolling. I would almost consider this game a new IP because the other two games are NOTHING like it. Same goes for any new IP.

      And just because a game is Mario doesn’t mean it’s good automatically… but let’s get real. Every Mario game so far has been amazing. They haven’t broken the pattern yet.

      I’ve never played the bad ones, so yeah, from first hand experience I’ve never been disappointed with a Mario game :)

    Sounds like they worked hard. It’s interesting that it is a pre order bonus. So I guess they aren’t doing the cool promotion. Unless they find another prize.

    That Fiend’s Cauldron is looking especially devious. I hope the hardest difficulty wouldn’t be so hard that it would prevent you from even remotely having a single chance at taking a shot at it. Ugh, like the Mysterious Figure from BBS, no chance almost.

      But having a difficulty THAT hard makes the game more worth the money, as you’ll probably find yourself playing it more…

      See, Mario 3D Land was so easy, I finished everything in the game that there was to do… in 14 hours…..

      I hope the Fiend’s Cauldron will be the hardest thing I’ve ever seen in a video game.

      I feel the same way, but it was so unfair. The secret Vanitas boss was like a 10 out of 10. The MF was a 15. I do enjoy the satifaction of beating the impossible. :)

      Wow. But, comparing this to something like RE:R, you see the huge gap in graphic quality. I guess they dropped textures and character resolution for more environment. But when I see a monster’s tail comprised of 2 straight lines meeting at a point…well whatever.

      The reason why the graphics are bad (So I’ve heard) is because the game was originally being developed before the 3DS got a hardware boost.
      Don’t know if that’s true, but makes sense…. It could look a lot better, but not going to change my decision.

      Was he in a previous KI game?

      No, he was not. Almost everything is new. What stayed (so far) from the original are:

      -Pit & his arrows -Palutena -Medusa -Some enemies -Eggplant Wizard -Hearts (used just like the original) -Different arrows (kinda, they were power-ups before)

      What could also have stayed (but we don’t know yet) are the mirror shield, health reward system, and multiple endings. It seems pretty close to the original, but it’s almost completely different, weird.

    Another amazing update and video! I still wished we had a demo to help occupy the 2-month wait, but many of these recent updates are better than nothing at all. Regardless, I’ll be looking forward to seeing more amazing Kid Icarus updates. Keep up the great work!

    Not sure about what they did with the music here, but there’s always something that goes amiss mid-development, although technically speaking, the music doesn’t really have much to do with the development of a game, not really :D I’m still hooked though!!

    the music playing in this video would be perfect for the fight against dark pit (last fight if theres more than one >.>)
    and i wonder if the a,b,x, and y buttons will be used…the way controls seem..it doesnt look like it
    move using circle pad, aim with touch screen, and L/R for….whatever there for

      If what Sakurai said is true then Pit has 100+ weapons. Different types of guns, swords, bracers, bows, etc.

      So far that I’ve heard of, in Nintendo power the descibed going through 8 levels (that being with 3 parts each) and still not seeing any end in sight. So it could be double that number or more!

      As for the weapons, that would most likely be 200+ different customizable (not literally) weapons. Sure, there are 9 weapon categories (maybe more, 10?) with at LEAST 4 sub weapons for each category, but there are also abilities that each weapon could possess! Like more defense, range, attack combo, speed, power, and they could also come with something like paralysis. The endless possibilities!
