Minecraft on the 3DS?

There’s a lot of readers who are big fans of Minecraft. Notch, the creator of Minecraft was recently asked if the game would ever come to the 3DS. Here’s what he said:

So yeah, that’s pretty much a *no*. But the “very awesome on the 3DS” part is maybe encouraging for a port in the distant future. If you’re a fan of the game it’s worth reading this thread over at Reddit where Notch is answering questions.

    The controls could be walking with the thumb and control the camera with the touch screen and destroy blocks with L

      What about the circle pad controls the camera and R moves forward and L moves backwards. And a,b,x,y digs jumps and so on could that maybe work? I don’t like the idea to control the camera with the touch screen. ^_^

    That would be the only game i’d ever play if it were to come out!! Minecraft already has options to play with those blue/red glasses.. i can tell you that it’s amazing just in that 3D.. imagine no glasses!!

    I’m still curious if streetfighter x tekken is coming out though

      streetfighter x tekken is probably going to be a no i don’t think capcom would release 2 fighting games because there some of the sales from ssf4 would be stifled. they would basically be making 2 of the same game and thus receive only 1/2 of the profit they would if they release it at a latter date

    They need to get it out of beta first before they worry about trying to port it to a console.

    On a related note, I think Minecraft is the dullest, most pointless game ever made, but I’m apparently a minority voice.

      …Yeah, you’re alone. Do you actually own the game? I’ve heard many people say that before actually playing/owning the game, but now they are addicted. The fun in this game is the sandbox appeal, that you can build whatever you want and then explore and play in your creations.

      I haven’t played the game so I unfortunately have no opinion on the game. I’d like to try it out some day though.

      actually notch doesn’t really know exactly how much he has made.. and doesn’t really care too much.. i’m not sure about the vocation stuff though.. though the amount of stuff he has done/is doing.. i think it’d be well deserved

      Actually CaseyJay he doesn’t actually do that much. I watched a documentary and he just sits around and pays other people to program it for him, which is understandable.

    hmm, as in “so much work already” is he reffering to the 3ds? also, ever since i got my 3ds on launch i havent been on this blog much, so i was wondering what does everyone think of their 3ds?? hardware software anything….. I personally love mine its freaking awesome

      Impatiently waiting for some new updates (especially web browser).. loving streetpass quest though!! Went to my local shops and collected 6 mii’s :D .. and it only took me 13,000 steps :S

      i wish somebody could post a list of known releases and updates though..

      Really, I make sure to take my 3ds everywhere, and haven’t found a single person on streetpass.Still loving it though!

    This would be a huge moneymaker for the company plus would help Nintendo sell more 3DS’s. I can’t see any negative aspects in doing this.

      Mojang has made over 20 million dollars thee not a garage developer any more.

      its not that they dont want to work with garage dev, they are just going to have higher standards.
      So some garage dev group could get 3ds release, but it will have to be something truly good. and not like 9/10 of the crap on android market and iphone store.
      (thats the way i understand it at least)

    This needs to be made. As for the control setup we’re going inverted people.

    X = Forwards
    Y= Strafe Right
    B = Backwards
    A = Strafe Left
    Circle pad = Camera
    L = Dig
    R = Place

    Double tap X for jump. Menu on touchscreen. Admit it after adjusting to the invertity – thats a brilliant control scheme.

    Notch did comment on his blog that he is working on a mobile version. BUT never said anything about the 3DS

      Maybe they sold out all normally priced 3DS’s in Japan too. That’s possible because tsunami made some damage to 3DS product lines. Not much game/console sales when you can’t even get that console almost anywhere. (for decent price)

      Umm… the psp had a price drop, and it’s pretty normal for older generations to outsell the next gen following a couple of months of it’s release. Not everybody is a hardcore gamer, therefore not everybody will immediately jump on new hardware.

    I think that $40 cartridge verfsions would be VERY unlikely (as the would have to mass produce cartridges and sell a 40 dollar remake or spin off of a 15 follar game. 3ds ware seems more like it

    I was thinking that they should make a port to the 3DS when my brother showed me the 3D-Glasses feature on Minecraft. A port of the game should be made when the game is out of Beta, and SpotPass could be used for updates of the game.

    Sorry about being off topic but I just read that the ngp might cost more than expected, with that and the probable delay its not lookin so good for sony, but for now nothings confirmed. Dont give me hell for posting this but im no fanboy, just think u guys should know.

    It have some big problems. Its made on java, it will be necessary to remake all the game to port to C/C++ and nintendo library, and they are few people without money to make this investment.
    The secons, the most important, minecraft has a huge worlds, the 3ds only has 128MB, it will be impossible to port unless it has 512MB-1GB ram.

    My mouth literally fell open when I saw this post. This is news I’ve wanted to hear for a while! I am a really big fan of Minecraft, and I even thought of suggesting this to Notch via email. I really hope on this becomeing a reality soon. (Nice job on the photoshoped Minecraft for 3DS, whoever did it.)

    Hmm, I’m not so sure how this would work out.
    You could make the worlds smaller (Since they’re ENORMOUS that wouldn’t be that bad) But, the point is, modding.
    There are a lot of Minecraft mods which are really great. You could download texture packs and place them on the SD card, but I’m not sure how Nintendo would think about mods in games on their platforms. But Minecraft without mods… still really fun, but so much more fun you can add!

    It took him months to release patch 1.4. He should just quit patching the game and let modders fix his shit as they can script Java way better than he himself can.

    Not that I dislike Minecraft mind you.

    Why the heell do you think about controlls? I guess Minecraft 3D won’t work, because it needs some special things (I dunno what, all i know is that the PSP haven’t got it). However i would be very happy if notch makes a port <3

    This would honestly be amazing Minecraft is my favorite pass time i play it before school think about it in school and build what i thought about after school. I am a huge minecraft fanatic. Im a huge nintendo fanatic too I have all the game boys from the color to the newest 3ds I got it the midnight release date… NOTCH Please pplease make minecraft a game available on the 3ds or just regulare ds. Minecraft is always ALWAYS going to need work on it. Its a progressing game it just cant get enough upgrades. But with the DS version?????? more money so you can progress further into Online minecraft? and better? if the 3ds has wifi make it available for multi player severs with like a maximum of 1-3 or 4 ppl???? it would be amazing! But I am just a fan idk the pressures and priorities that the minecraft demands and the bugs that need to be worked out im just saying if you got that on ds I would be there at the midnight release for that…
