Mario Tennis for the 3DS was announced last year and according to this listing from GameFly, the final name of the game is Mario Tennis Open. If the listing is accurate, the game will arrive on the 20th of May. I suspect there’ll be an announcement closer to the anniversary of the 3DS if this is the case. It’d make sense for there to be a conference from Nintendo around that time.

Mario Tennis Open? Interesting name…
I guess I might get it if nothing else comes out around that time.
Hay. Another game I want that now has a release. Pretty excited for this. But obviously we all want to see paper Mario and luigis mansion more.
And Animal Crossing 3DS!
If Paper Mario 3DS is as good as The Thousand Year Door, I just might die. That game is my top favorite.
I wan’t a super awesome Mario RPG for the 3DS that will take forever to beat, have a million things to do, and that I will take everywhere with me and never put down ^-^
@Zack
hells yea thousand year door was awsome just like the 1st i played a little of the wii one but wasnt really liking it
What about SUPER Paper Mario for Wii???
must have animal crossing 3ds
Professor Layton: Mask of Miracle!
I don’t know why people are looking forward to Animal Crossing so much… I mean if you like it that’s fine, but to me it looks freaking boring.
All you do is walk around, talk to people, change your clothes and water plants. Is there really anything that fun about it???
@Link(inspirit)
If you’ve heard from any die-hard Paper Mario fans, you would’ve heard that it sucked. I personally liked the new direction, but it didn’t hold up too well with it’s previous counterparts. That’s why PM:tTYD is the greatest out of the three (expanded on the first, but better than the third).
@Zack
The enjoyment of living a sim life, with the ability to customize almost everything, and collect Nintendo merchandise doesn’t sound fun to you? That’s okay, it’s not meant for action, it’s a way to escape real life and other common games. That’s what the appeal is (other than what a mentioned before).
Also, I would like to expect epicness like PM:tTYD, but don’t set your hopes up too high. I can’t say it won’t be fantastic (because I haven’t played it), however don’t expect it to be better than PM:tTYD.
@zack animal crossing isn’t for everyone. you either love it or you don’t. it does look boring but try play atleast one game before dissmissing it. i thought it was boring too but after trying it i found it was really fun.
wow, this game was so suddenly announced AND released. I hope it’s good.
I forgot that this game even existed. I’m SO buying this!
I don’t see why Gamefly would post Mario Tennis Open if it wasn’t the real name of the game… Maybe we will hear something at GDC or at another conference that Nintendo has before E3… Anybody think this is all real?
Because maybe it IS the real name of the game. Publishers often change the name before it gets released.
What if when you hit the ball it flies up towards the screen thus using the pop out 3d effect…
Then try explaining your mother how you got that black eye…
“I swear to Arceus, Mario decked me in the face!”
Is that pokemon technically God then or what
That’d be awesome if it was true! There hasn’t been any new info since it’s TGS revealing though.
Lucky me! I’ll be sure to get this cuz I’ll have leftover b-day money!!!!! c(^o^c)
Meh… I want AnimalCrossing!
Don’t we all?
nope^
well, i do, but a ton of people don’t :)
I like the name… It’s like “Australian Open”
I want this game.
Thats so early,I thought it was coming out in 2013!
…2012 just started…
It doesn’t take THAT long to make a game unless everything is being built from scratch. Sequels usually take less time to make because developers already know the who, what and how.
Unless it’s a true Zelda or Final Fantasy sequel. Those take years to make.
Hope this is good. The screenshots look great graphics wise.
might get it if it has online :b
same
I’ve loved Mario Tennis since the GameBoy Color game so I’d definitely pick this up. :)
High-five for the GameBoy Color game. I still have my copy, and it’s awesome, even today. The GBA game was great, too. I’m worried that this won’t have a story mode like the last two, which bums me out a little, but not enough to prevent me from getting it. P:
Yeah, I wish they would make more Mario games with that level of depth, the RPG elements really made it awesome! not to mention the almost pokemon style of having to beat elite teams.
I just liked you could make your character whatever style player you wanted, and how you trained determined how your player performed. I also like that the GBC game connected to the 64 version, allowing you to play the game through with your custom character. It’d be awesome if this one had completely custom characters (including customized looks). But I’m sure I’m dreaming right now, ahaha.
IF This game has online play will defenetly get because that could be really fun!
If this is anything like the GBA ones, count me in
http://superpoints.com/refer/EragonFowl Please check this out. Mario tennis looks ok.
is your name like a eragon/artemis fowl thing?
or not?
yes it is.
Woot! Keep the News going David!!!
There’s a cosplayer I know of that goes by LinkInSpirit…you wouldn’t happen to be the same person?
cool…
I hope it only uses Mario characters and not just random generic human characters with like 6 Mario characters like the GBC and GBA games. It is called MARIO Tennis and not a million forgettable characters + Mario Tennis
I completely disagree to the tenth degree. Having new characters that *weren’t* the Mario crew made the handheld Mario Tennis games special. If I wanted to play as Mario, I’d play the console version. Sure, allow the Mario co. in multiplayer, but I want a single player mode that involves original characters and a story and sports RPG mode, just like the past two (which were excellent).

SHABLAGOO!
Hasn’t been confirmed for the 3DS, though.
Online 3D Screaming?
wut.

…A bidding site thing? No.
Nope.
i hope super mario world for the snes comes out for 3ds
I sure hope its like the amazing GBC Mario Tennis with the RPG level up system and mini games…

LOL thats my brothers birthday XD
I loved Mario Power Tennis, and the graphics look really gorgeous in this new game. I’m excited.
Ahhh can’t wait to get this…
Off topic: TEN minutes of Kingdom Hearts 3D
http://t.co/zB85f4Fx
One word: there are NO words xD
David you need to post this, build up more hype!
I just had a mind-f*** at the end, for two reasons…If you see the trailer, you’ll understand why.
Oh, since no one else seemed to mention this. *SPOILER ALERT*
10 minutes can reveal a lot of footage.
This is Kingdom Hearts we’re talking about. 10 minutes won’t reveal a whole lot, it just raises many questions.
Mario Tennis Open is an Remake of the GC Version so i hate it
You don’t know that.
I can say that this is the one thing I’m worried about. I loved Power Tennis, but if I wanted to play it, I’d pull out my GCN version. I don’t need a Wii port, and I certainly don’t need a 3DS port, either. All the footage I’ve seen for this so far seems to point to that. That’s why I’m seriously hoping for an RPG mode.
That video probably used the Mario Power Tennis sounds because Nintendo was still working on new music and stuff….RPG mode?…Yes please.
Post that new KH trailer please
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAPBAm1GkHE&feature=player_embedded
include 4 player online with communities and i’m there Nintendo. Though a $29.99 price point would be even better
Not even kidding, Mario Tennis GBA is my favorite game. My favorite character was Skipper :P
I really hope it has the story mode thing that all past portable versions had!
@Every1 Who Talked About Animal Crossing. Animal Crossing Is Plain Stupid & Gay.
its offical nintendo makes the worst and wierdest names ever! seriously!!!!!!!! WTF?!
If you knew anything about tennis, this name would make perfect sense.
Ditto, and the Australian Open wasn’t even that long ago!
From the E3 2011 video, this game looked like a quick and dirty port of Mario Power Tennis… I’m hoping I’m wrong.
