Is a Pokemon Gray announcement coming soon?

Junichi Masuda was recently asked if he knew anything about a follow-up game to Pokemon Black and White. In response, he urged everyone to watch the next episode of the Pokémon Smash, a Pokémon variety show in Japan. Later, he also turned to Twitter to tell his followers world-wide to do the same. We can’t be sure if this will necessarily have anything to do with the 3DS, but there’s always that possibility.

      I really hope that its a whole new game for Pokemon RPG’s.
      I want to have a full 3D free roaming game, cars and all that stuff, ability to play with like 10 friends in the same world through wifi, more modern maps (roads, ect.) and the thing that stands ontop of all of this that I wan’t, I don’t care if the ones before it don’t get chosen but this is what I really want…… I want all regions in the one game and make the story line about crossing the regions to become the Number 1 so you can be the TRUE Number 1 Pokemon Trainer, that would just be epic and if your going to say it won’t fit they can just use that 4GB card they used on Resident Evil Revelations.

      This is want I want though.
      I want to be able to catch all the pokemon plus any new pokemon; all the trading from other games is getting annoying. >:(

      Game freak confirmed that the statement ‘their will be no pkmn grey’ was wrong and had been misinterpreted. They said at the time it wasnt their focus, not it wont happen.

      hey you dont know, remember that everything can change, nothing is stated true. besides, the story of BW is not completely finished, we dont know where ghesis is or what he is doing because the ninjas said that. and remember about megaman, it could have come out if there was more support, imagine how many pokefans are out there, worldwide.

      @Boosos, but just like Red and Blue we never knew what happened to Giovanni after his plan failed. Fast Forward to the Gen IV remake of Gold and Silver and his story FINALLY finished.

      @Boosos eh.. The villains of each generation have barely ever gotten full closure. I mean look at Team Rocket, they came back in Gold and Silver, some passerby in Black And White kinda revealed that they’re still at work. Giovanni’s story never wrapped up until HeartGold/SoulSilver, who knows what happened to Team Magma, Cyrus is just randomly floating around in space (From what I remember of Platinum and the Distortion World, Cyrus walked off after saying his plans for a full world will never be complete. In the show, he just walks into a portal and that’s the end of that) There’s a chance we won’t even find out what happened to Ghetsis.

      wait, in regards to my previous comment, the Emerald storyline was pretty much resolved at the end of the game, so I guess that’s an exception, since Archie and Maxxie made peace.

      Grey can be used in all of the English-speaking world. Gray is a primarily American variant.

      Actually, either is acceptable. Gray is most commonly used in America though. I’m American, but I always spell it with an e. Just looks better imo.

    i hope it is for the 3ds and they dont come out with an exclusive pokemon in pokemon gray like it happened with platinum, it was a DISASTER and i hope there is more features on the game, i hope the game uses all feaatures of the 3ds 90% or 100% percent.

      Listen, I do too, but it’s going to follow the pattern of:
      New Region (2 games)
      Remake of New Region (1 game)
      Remake of Region 2 Generations back (2 games)

      There is a huge chance that there will be both. A conclusion to the B/W series would be Grey, which has been rumoured to be in production for quite some time now. And as for the RSE remakes, a while back, someone asked one of the Pokemon creators (??) on twitter if they were still going to keep RSE fans in mind, for future games (as interpreted), and he answered “yes.” So it is likely that we will see both! :D

      I’d rather they make Gray first so they can then put more effort on a 3DS version of RSE. As much as I love sprites I think it’s time Pokemon jumps to 3D.

      What better way to do so then showing off the gens that had two (3 if you count what happens in Emerald Version) gigantic legendary Pokemon that control weather duke it out in the middle of the ocean?

      @Peekatyou There is no pattern. Firered and Leafgreen were released before Emerald while Heartgold and Soulsilver were released after Platinum. I do believe that th1rd iterations happen due to the developers seeing more room for improvements. Since Black and White were the most story-focused games yet, that will obviously be the thing most expanded upon (Most likely with N’s back story, maybe Alder too).

    If it in not a 3DS game, I hope that playing it on a 3DS adds at least a few things.
    - 240p and 5/3 graphics
    - A few Streetpass options
    - Circle Pad analogic input
    …

      The weird thing about the lack of diagonal movement on Pokemon DS games is that the GBA games supported it. Remember playing Pokemon Emerald emulated on my PSP and being shocked that it had 8 direction movement.

      @Ty …I don’t EVER recall Emerald (Or any of the other “,main” RPGs) EVER having the ability to move diagonally. What smoke are you crackin’?

      It was probably just a mod on the emulator version, Big E. Although, I can’t say for sure since I have the actual copies and not emulated versions.

      Grey is the made up fanboy name.
      Q is the official project name.

      They haven’t tagged a official name for the next game outside of the project name.

      But then again fanboys usually don’t do the research lol makes the rest of us look really bad

    During a Q&A session during a visit to Tokyo on Saturday, Junichi Masuda was asked about when the next main series game, a game after Pokémon + Nobunaga’s Ambition, is to come out. In response, he said that he can’t really respond to that question but said to watch an upcoming Pokémon Smash episode, due to air this weekend. This was followed by a post on twitter stating the same thing. Despite this, however, the summary and trailer of that episode of Pokémon Smash makes no mention of any sort of announcement. We’ll bring news on these developments as and when they happen so be sure to keep checking back

    Call me crazy, but Pokemon Black and White are my favorite games in the series and I’m itching to see how the third Unova installment expands upon them. Hope this is true!

      I agree, Black and White freshened the series for me. I was on the edge of growing out of the series until I recently played Black and White.

    I don’t really understand what more they can with a follow-up. Don’t get me wrong, the story of Black And White was not bad in the slightest, I just didn’t feel much of a connection to it as the successor to Diamond And Pearl. It’s not just the game, I have yet to be wowed by the 5th Generation in general. Everything about it, even the show, just seems so off and disconnected from the first four. I haven’t really touched my copy of Black since beating the main game, and I was really hoping for a Pokemon Emerald remake.. Oh well. If this is actually happening, I guess a Generation 3 remake is inevitable and will probably come out sometime in 2014.

    You see It turns out to be another Pokemon spinoff like Nobunaga’s Ambition and Pokepark 2, but if it really is the Pokemon Gray announcement I hope It’ll be on the 3DS. I would love to see all the good features the 3DS would have to offer the game like better graphics and more/better wifi options unlike how B/W had pixelated animated sprites and the failed c-gear. B/W was a good game and all but hopefully Gray would be better.

      I don’t get all the hate for BW. It’s the first Pokemon main game to actually have a decent story. All because the new Pokemon aren’t “cool” enough? Whatever, I just wish they’d hurry up with the events.

    Pokemon Gray is inevitable and will probably be a 3DS game now since sales of the system have skyrocketed. Announcing this for 3DS would set the 3DS in stone.

      @zeem gamereak has a cycle that they follow with the main series so no ammount of wishing for those things is gonna make them come faster. my question is what pokemon fan in their right mind would pass on any game in the main series.

    well I can pretty much guarantee that it will be a new game in the generation series because corocoro is buzzing about it on their next months issue, Masuda would never say on twitter to watch pokemon smash next week if it was not a big title and would just told the people at the conference and hope it would spread, and pokemon smash is starting to buzz about it so it is set. But if it is gray or grey I will not be all that excited because i didn’t really like black and white even though it was visually stunning for a ds game. If it is R/S/E which imo has the best story in any pokemon game and they are doing the same as they did which fr/lg remakes which they release it before emerald then i would be really exciting even if its only for ds with no 3ds exclusives.

    I’m going to go ahead and guess that this will have been ported to the 3DS. So it’s not going to be like mind-blowingly different but since the game seems to have been designed with 3D in mind it just makes sense that they may upgrade the graphics a bit(if that) and port it to the 3DS.

    I feel like it’s a bit early for them to release the compilation version though, I’m a little suspicious…nevermind, it did come out here in Japan in 2010 9, 18.

    Can’t wait for the possible announcement this Sunday!

    It certainly wouldn’t be a surprise if Pokemon Gray is released for 3DS. The handheld flying off the shelves in Japan. The question is would it come to North America?

      I can’t see any more remakes after RSE working anyway, and even RSE is a stretch. The games they have remade were clasics with no way to transfer Pokemon from the Game Boy versions, so they had everything going for them. RSE holds some nostalgic value, but after that remakes are just redundant.

      Yes. Yes it is…You know what? Many people hate new Ppokemon designs due to the factor of nostalgia. When you actually compare them…and think about it, some of the earlier designs are just…wierder. How could a trash creature be any worse than a pile of sludge?

    While I think Grey version was inevitable since the moment B/W came out… I really want Ruby and Sapphire. If Grey comes out on the 3Ds I will buy it.

    Do people really care that much about Grey anymore? It feels like forever since B/W as it is, yet alone after anouncement, release and localisation.

    I’m gonna guess that the announcement is something relating to Pokémon Grey, rather than the game itself being revealed. The most obvious thing I can think of would be Kyurem’s rumoured new forme.
    Other than that, the game looks likely to be on 3DS, simply because it’s the current handheld, and we’ve had D/P/Pt and B/W on the DS now, so the new things they can do with it are kind of running dry, really. I don’t think it will go full 3D with no sprites, though.

    i think out of all the pkmn games bw had the best story and pokemon the older pokemon i dint like that much i only had like 3 favorates from ech gen but in the 5th gen the pokemon are awesome xD

    I liked the style of Pokepark. I can imagine playing as a trainer throughout the various regions. With the visuals of Poképark to back up the intriguing storyline of the game.

    I’ve always wanted a Pokémon game where you can see the Pokémon everywhere and choose the one you would like to go for, and possibly for some unique attitudes; like the Squirtles from the show.

    (Not to walk into the grass and watch as they just appear out of nowhere and you’re thinking “Wtf! Teh Pokémon’s are everywhere!”)

    I feel like at least a few others would agree, eh?

    I really would get a laugh if those of us that think it is “Pokémon Gray/Grey” were completely wrong, and it turned out to be something completely different.

    At this point I could see them doing it just to make a lot of people look like d***s. :|

    Whatever the outcome; whenever the next Pokémon game comes out; no matter the console; I will almost certainly be lined up to get it.

    Well…not lined up. I’m one of a very small minority from my area that still enjoys Pokémon.

    Gonna kick some A** in Pokémon Silver now. >:D

    hey guys if grey is announced i think it would more likely be released on the 3ds or both 3ds and ds. Reason being remember that nintendo was going to launch the new online system. Since now pokemon is using wif or online it would make sense to launch it on the system with the new online. Plus it would give more of a reason to by a 3ds. Also does this necassarily mean it is grey. It could be the ruby and sapphire remakes. It is already about time where gamefreak should be announcing a new game

    Oh I really hope there is a Grey version. Imagine how much they could extend the game and lengthen the story! Maybe in a twist of events, the player and N have to battle together to defeat Kyurem.

    Well, I’d be happy to have a R/S/E remake. Even if Nintendo doesn’t make a remake, I’d still settle for a Pokemon Gray. And I think gen.6 should start in 2014-2015.
