This morning, Nintendo released their financial results for the first quarter of 2012, revealing losses of $220,400,000 within that time period. But fear not! There is a ray of sunlight. Aside from the fact that Nintendo is sitting on a huge amount of cash — making it impossible to have real financial struggles for a long time — they also reported that 3DS sales are up. Based on the sales figures we’ve reported on, this was expected, but just to revel in the announcement:
Nintendo sold 1.86 million 3DS units during the quarter, in comparison to 710,000 over the same period in 2011, at the time of the console’s European and North American launch, which means an increase of 162%. Software sales stood at 7.39 million, a 63% increase.
The next quarter will be certainly be interesting though. Do you think they’ll suffer another loss? Or will this be the last one for a while?
