Natsume has confirmed via Facebook that Harvest Moon: A New Beginning, which has been available in Japan since February, is coming to North America. We’re not sure when it will be available, but the game “will be making its debut during E3, June 5th to 7th, where first screens and game play details will be revealed”.

I never even tried this game before because I don’t get what it’s all about and I was really not so opened when I was a kid so… What’s so special about Harvest Moon?

    • Robert

its addictive. If you can, you should try HM 64, wich is the one that hooked most of us in the game. And you´ll see why it´s so addictive

While i’m pretty much the same as you, I can say that it’s pretty similar to Animal Crossing according to my friend.
It’s all about you playing a character who lives on a farm, growing crops and taking care of farm animals. You live nearby a town where you interact with the townsfolk, making friends, taking part in holidays, and selling your crops for profit. It’s basically a sim-type game.
In the more recent ones you can apparently be in relationships/get married with someone from town as well.

I always hear nothing but good things about the games, so they must be pretty good.
I’ve played Harvest Moon 64 and a Harvest Moon game for the GBA for a short period of time and they were pretty fun, but coming from Animal Crossing (and hearing it was like Animal Crossing) it wasn’t able to hold my attention for too long since I was looking for something similar with the whole owning/furnishing a house.
I also don’t like their time system (short days/no months, just seasons).
Give one of the older games a shot if ever you get a chance to see if it might be something you’re in to.

    • SakuMo

If you’re going to play asn HM game, don’t make it 64. The time system is horrible in that game and can be a big turnoff. Call me jaded, but it’s one of my least favorite in the series. For beginners, I suggest Magical Melody (it’s not traditional, but it’s easy and can teach you the basics), Back to Nature or Friends of Mineral Town (more traditional style), or either of the Wii games, Tree of Tranquility or Animal Parade (AP for a slower, more relaxed pace, ToT for more challenging gameplay). The original SNES one is excellent for classic play, as well.

The only similarity HM has to Animal Crossing is that they are both life simulation games. They are completely different otherwise, and it annoys me to no end that they are compared. That’s like saying Mario and Rayman are the same because they’re both platformers.

If your not afraid to emulate games then try either harvest moon 64 or harvest moon back to nature. Those are my favorite entries in the series. Though I for some reason prefer back to nature more.

    • TheREALhousewife

If you are to try a Harvest Moon game, I recomend Harvest Moon DS or Harvest Moon: Magical Melody (Gamecube/Wii)

Can’t push enough to try Friends of Mineral Town, my absolute favorite GBA game. Back To Nature (the PS1 game FoMT is based on) is good too since it’s almost the exact same thing, but a bit harder to find. HM64 is good too, it was the first one I played, but FoMT is still my favorite one ever.

    • Big E

Everyone seems to be forgetting A Wonderful Life for GC.

    • Co-Wink-Key-Dink inc.

      @MichelM
Why would we be afraid to emulate?
      Chicken?

    • Atomsk

      @Big E:
AWL was my first game in the series but honestly it has never been that great… though i think its lack of characters and the gimped farming…

Also there is a special edition for ps2 that gives you an extra bride and some other stuff…

I would definately say Back to Nature, or Friends of Mineral Town are amazing

    • SakuMo

If you have a PSP or PS3, Back to Nature is on the PSN for $5-6. I forget the exact price. It’s the easiest old game to (legally) get your hands on.

    • Da Man Live

Lol you guys got interesting and funny replies so thank you for your summaries and recommendations. Imma try out a HM for Wii since I have one already!

  • El_Bano

Awesome. Too bad we’ll probably get 5 different dates before it finally gets released and more than likely it’ll be full of glitches too. lol

I still love harvest Moon though. Can’t wait until it comes out.

    • SakuMo

You speak so much truth. It’s so sad.

    • TheREALhousewife

Don’t put me down like that.

    • ZimmerRemmiz

Tale of Two Towns was kinda botched, but most of the time that doesn’t happen with their games, don’t expect that to happen again…

    • Robert

glitches are a tradition in harvest moon games.

  • http://youtube.com/The8Guys Dylan

looks good ive always wanted atleast one of the HM games so im probably gonna get this one :P

  • Aaron

I can’t wait to try it out. Though we might have to wait for another year for it to be released. I remember I got into the series with A Wonderful Life, and got hooked on it ever since. Shame HM64 isn’t going to be on the Virtual Console, unless the coding can be improved for the WiiU’s Virtual Console.

  • dave

Can’t wait, was supremely disappointed with Tale of Two Towns (it just didn’t feel right if that makes sense), so I’m actually hoping since this is nice full 3D models and environment it will be like the two Wii games which imo are 2 of the better in the series

Nothing can really beat Friends of Mineral town though sadly, but I’d love to be proven wrong

HEY! Castlevania Lords of Shadow: Mirror of Fate is confirmed for 3DS. Nintendo Power revealed that Mirror of Fate’s Belmont priotagonist will be Trevor Belmont of “Castlevania: Dracula’s Curse” fame. He uses a new version of the Combat Cross, Gabriel’s weapon from the original Castlevania: Lords of Shadow.

    Meh… I want Animal Crossing!

    • BlooShroom

I know,I really hope some info about it will be released at E3

    • SakuMo

And you’ll probably get it before this one even sees US shores. HM games are notoriously delayed, so hush.

  • TboOoo

My fave was Harvest Moon on the Game Cube!

  • http://fixedillusion.com Mayker

If I get this, it will be my first non-Rune Factory Harvest Moon game.

  • Michael A

I don’t give a fuck about this. And what’s with those graphics

    • jASON
