GameStop sees a “significant increase” in sales of 3DS, no concrete numbers yet

I’m not too sure we’re going to get any concrete figures about the sales of the 3DS in North America, or any regions outside of Japan until Nintendo wants to spill the beans themselves but, at the very least, Tony Bartel, the President of GameStop has shared the following:

In terms of recent trends, clearly, we’ve had 2 major events recently with the price drop on the 3DS and the recent price drop on the PS3 platform. That has seen a significant increase in the rate of sale of those platforms, as you would expect.

That’s far-gone from anything specific, but let’s just hold to the hope that “significant increase” is somewhere in the ball-park of eight billion 3DS units sold.

    I bought one after the price drop and they were selling out fast they only had blue at the mall gamestop and at the local one they were sold out, so I think 8 million isn’t that big of an assumption.

    Eight billion? Wow I must be out of trend, I NEEEEEEED to get one, grrrr. Almost 7billion people and we sold 8 billion 3DS’s. That’s like the best selling handheld ever to exist.

    I was at my GameStop earlier today and I happened to ask about how the 3DS is selling now since the price drop, the cashier told me they only had one left! I’m thrilled that the 3DS is finally selling how it should!

    I think that the 3ds is possibly the best platform handheld out there , i have only had mine for about 2 weeks but, i have had nothing but fun with it , people need to live a little and get out there and purchase this wonderful device, i know sales were a bit harsh for its first release and $250 was pretty expensive but fir 169.99 this item is a steal…. SO GO OUT THERE AND GET IT !!!

    No wonder the 3ds wasnt selling well. Gamestop is selling the machine at 270 euro’s in europe. Thats 380 dollars give or take US. If the 3ds fails its gamestops fault.

    THATS NOTHING, I wante to get a 3DS since launc, and when I got enough money 1 month ago, my local Wal-Mart (Canada) had the 3DS at $199.99 with the ambassador, IT WAS SOLD OUT, I had to wait 2 weeks to finally get one, imagine now, at $169.99!
