Gamer gets time with 3DS, leaks details about StreetPass Quest and StreetPass Puzzle

Richard (@RichardR), a very lucky gamer has got some hands-on time with a retail unit of the 3DS with the help of a manager at GAME and has leaked the first details about the two StreetPass-based games built into the operating system. The games themselves are known as *StreetPass Quest* and *StreetPass Puzzle*.

**StreetPass Quest** begins with your Mii trapped in a tower. To escape, you must use Miis you have collected via StreetPass and battle increasingly powerful enemies in turn-based combat. If you haven’t collected any Miis then you’re able to purchase a cat in armour to act as a substitute. You purchase this cat with two game coins, which have been previously detailed. The cat has two attack options: sword and magic.

Richard guesstimated that there were about 16-32 different levels you could work your way through and you’ll need to battle with each enemy about 2-3 times to match their power. You can fight your way through the game with up to three Miis at a time. Failed attempts at rescuing your Mii from the tower are met with details about enemies you have defeated and the remaining health of enemies who you’ve tried to take on but failed to take down, so it sounds like this quest will require an investment over time, rather than just a single sitting.

The goal of **StreetPass Puzzle** is to construct a 3D puzzle. But to complete this puzzle you need to collect pieces by interacting with other folks via StreetPass. The more people you interact with, the more puzzle pieces you gain until you can finally complete the puzzle. Richard was unable to test this game out fully however as it does rely on StreetPass interaction which he lacked.

    This actually sounds pretty fun. Might go to my local GameStop a couple times so StreetPass actually finds someone. Oh, and the cat part sounds like it’d looks pretty funny. Classic Nintendo humor. :D

    They sound cool, but I probably won’t be able to use them. I really doubt I will come across people carrying a 3DS. I’ve talked to at least 5 people at school and they never ever HEARD of a 3DS :[

    And also since there aren’t very many 3DS in the US to start with.

      I think you just answered your own question! Although, to be fair you can still play the ‘Quest’ game, you just need to do a lot of walking to earn yourself some game coins.

    Im gonna have to handcuff the thing to my arm at all times to save my Mii and do a puzzle. I live in a place where walking doesnt afford you any interaction with anyone. Now i gotta worry about ppl trying to steal my 3ds.

    I think I’ll wait to see if I can get some mii interaction before going for the cat. I figure if I hit up a couple of anime conventions over the summer I’m bound to get some streetpass interaction.

    can someone help convince me to not cancel my pre order? i ordered aqua blue the day that the pre orders opened up on amazon. Every day cosmo black starts to look better and better. Everyone ive ever known who owned a black ds of any kind always wished that they had gotten the other color after some time. I like the blue, and i have a blue dsi, but every day the blue 3ds starts to look more childish and weird lookin. I might cancel my pre order and get cosmo black. HELP!! :(

      Hello friend,i am getting aqua blue as well and I think it looks incredible my reasoning for getting blue is besides the fact that every body is already getting black the blue really excentuates nintendo’s design plan too have a three layer design like the colors go from dark too light (from top to bottom) and the aqua blue looks very sharp (imo)

      Whatever was your first instinctive favorite get it. No amount of peer pressure will change your favorite of the two, and to figure that out just try to remember which looked cooler when you first saw it. For me, when I saw the Black 3DS I thought, “Yes this is perfect.” Even though Nintendo only showed off the Blue one I adamantly stayed with my decision. You should do the same (and stay with Blue),

      i wanted Blue at first cuz it was the main one that looked cool. but after watching hours and hours of videos of it, it started to get very annoying. then i scene black and it looked a lot cooler and easy on they eyes. i did hours of comparison and Black is my choice now and i don’t have any second thoughts. the Blue is cool to see other people have it. but Black is great to have.

      thanks everyone! i think ill be staying with my aqua blue 3ds.i looked at many pictures of the final version of the aqua blue 3ds. the E3 prototype has a strange puke colored tint to all of the colors that were shown. :) the color used on the inside layer of the blue final 3ds looks amazing! :D I think that the lighting that the 3ds was receiving in many videos ive seen was somewhat dark, giving it a dark puke color seen in the E3 model. thanks for the help! :)

    There is alot of stuff included in the 3DS, which really makes up for the somewhat lacking launch list, theres going to be alot to test out and play around with come March 27th.

    Awesome. I get some hands-on time later as well, but It might be the day before it’s realeased in japan, so It’s pointless saying the stuff anyway. If I’m lucky and get to go to town during the week, I’d say some sort of info. I think we already know everything there is to know, though.

    BUT HOW FAR CAN YOU BE FROM ANOTHER 3DS TO CONNECT WITH IT??? do you have to be a few feet away for StreetPass to work or can you be a few yards away?

    cuz there’s a Dunkin Donuts a few stores down from GameStop on a strip-mall. i could spend a few days drinking coffee at DD playing Nintendogs while getting lots of StreetPass data.

      Spot-Pass is when it automatically connects to the internet and updates your software and stuff while the 3DS is in sleep mode

    The only thing I’m worried about it other people’s hacked stuff (it will happen eventually, can’t pretend it won’t) being downloaded to my DS and messing stuff up. I live in a fairly big city and work at a Gamestop (oh, the amount of traffic I’ll get while I work) so I plan on being able to utilize these functions. But how will I be able to get out hacked stuff other people made/ downloaded/ whatnot?

      Well as we all know Nintendo will update their firmware automatically. So while hackers won’t update their 3DS’s, everyone else will which’ll keep you safe.

      Also, there could be a limit on how much data is sent, like say half a megabyte.

      you dont download any games from other 3DS systems unless your using download play you can only see the last app they used but it doesn’t download to the 3DS.

      Yes but the reason he’s (rightfully) afraid is to have the 3DS get that information (on what’s the last game the other person’s 3DS played) it has to download data, and the 3DS can just as easily download a virus/hack. Which, in a way, is a pretty scary thought.

      I think I’m (she btw) most afraid of getting hacked items from individual games. Like, say you’re trading data with Animal Crossing, Nintendogs, any game with items or outfits or anything. Perhaps that person has a hacked item, and that item somehow starts circulating in your game. I’m not sure how much data that is, or if Nintendo with have updates to fix those sorts of things…

      its near impossible to get a hacked item for multiple reasons 1. you would have to not only re-make the items bank but also make said items work with every thing in the game ( basically re-make the whole game ) and also your items bank would need to be the same to get said hacked items, so unless they manage to somehow get their hack on the nintendo servers its impossible

      also no hacker would go through such trouble as re-programming the game for a hacked item when they could use a actionreplay cheat and get the best items of the game
