Square Enix has trademarked the name Final Fantasy Dimensions in the United States and Europe. They’ve also registered the domain name. As such, it appears that a new Final Fantasy game is being worked on. But the Dimensions sub-title is leading people to believe it’s for the 3DS, which sounds like a fair conclusion.
The big question at this point though is, what’s the actual game going to be like?

I would -love- to see a Dissidia-esque Final Fantasy game for the 3ds. It was one of the only PSP games that really interested me and I’m still bummed I haven’t gotten to play it. That being said, I wouldn’t mind a fleshed out, new and original FF jrpg.

Everyone seems to forget about Final Fantasy Type-0. It’s currently being localized.
I actually have no interest in Type-0. A Final Fantasy… shooter? No thanks lol. Didn’t Type-0 bomb hard?
Final Fantast Type-0 didn’t bomb, and it isn’t a shooter. Most people consider it the best (released) game in the Fabula Nova Crystallis series, and one of the PSPs last great games. It’s gameplay is more action oriented than other Final Fantasy games- The battle system is a cross between the ATB and the real time combat system found in Crisis Core (which was partially turn-based).

I agree unfortunately its quite late in the life span of the PSP and will most likely be over looked. Sales have actually been better within the initial 4 or so weeks compared to others such as ‘Dissidia’ or ‘Crisis Core’. Nothing is conclusive as it only available in Japan.
They plan on releasing it on PSN as a Vita enhanced PSP title. It is a bit late, but they expect most people to buy it for the Vita which is new. I dunno if they’re releasing it on UMD though.

I was told it was a shooter and remember seeing part of a trailer a while back and seeing nothing but shooting, but I guess I’m mistaken. Maybe I’ll check it out once used PSP prices drop on Craigslist because I won’t be buying a crazy expensive Vita. Dissidia, KH BBS, and Peacewalker are the only games that interest me for the PSP.
Back on topic, I’ve been hearing speculation that FF Dimensions is a remake/port of FFI & II which would make me very sad. Doubt that’s true though.
@Boo If you’re into RPG’s, you MUST, MUST try Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky. I wasn’t interested in it at first but I got it and it blew my mind. Although, in America I don’t think we’ll be getting part 2,3, or 0.
Considering how many remakes/rereleases I and II have gotten it probably isn’t.
I’d personally like it to link the games. Like a Kingdom Hearts-esque game (travelling to the different games, and working against some universal threat) Though it’s unlikely.

@invictus4000 Don’t see how they’ve been a disappointment. Over the last 10 years, we got the Kingdom Hearts series, which is an awesome series, the Dissidia series and new main FF games.
Opinions taste like butt, as we say in Sweden. Square enix has done nothing but GREAT the last 10 years. Someone’s getting old an stuck in the past I see.
To be fair, he said ‘As far as FF goes’, so he didn’t mean Kingdom Hearts and the like.
I enjoyed FFXIII though and look forward to the sequel.
FF-I to FF-III: No comments
FF-IV = Good enough.
FF-V = Enjoyable
FF-VI = Best one ever.
FF-VII = Good enough, but it started the emofag trend.
FF-VIII = Not that bad of a soap opera (aka please no)
FF-IX = Mixed bag
Last ten years or so:
FF-X = The worst Emofag BS ever
FF-X2 = Please kill me already
FF-XII = OK – The only good one in the last ten years.
FF-XIII = Dissapointing
Xenoblade was better that all the last ten years Final Fantasies combined, people just forget what a good RPG is about.
My own personal take on the franchise. hope this helps any one interested in getting into Final Fantasy.
FF1: A good start to a franchise. Mechanically today its ancient, but for its time was pretty damn good.
FF2: Have not played yet. No Comment
FF3: Improves on the Job system that was implemented in the first. Story is shallow and characters are completely forgettable. Really for only FF aficionados.
FF4: Well done story and characters. Nothing really added for the sake of the franchise but still a well worth the look.
FF5: Like 3 it chooses to revive job system but also gives characters personality. Well worth the look.
FF6: With an amazing story, cast of characters and one of the most unforgiving villain of the franchise. This one well meets expectations and arguably the best one in the series.
FF7: Has not aged well graphically or even aesthetically. Most cut scenes are awkward with the exception of a few. Mechanically sound with slight hiccups. While having a good story this one tends to try to hard and goes over board with certain characters. This one is well worth the look for those who are more open minded.
FF8: Haven’t gone far in this one yet so no comment.
FF9: This game goes closer to the franchises roots at least as close as it can get. Creative characters and pretty good storyline as well. Well worth the look.
FF10: With the introduction of voice acting in a game this one kinda messes up terribly in that department. (Laughing Scene: look it up). Most characters are shallow and some are laughably ridiculous. Mechanics are good with a few exceptions. Overall nothing really special. Only for those who are hardcore aficionados.
FF11: Its an MMO, never played it though. No Comment.
FF12: Never played but have heard good things. No Comment.
FF13: Have not actually given this game a real chance. Perhaps because I kept falling asleep due to cut scenes.
FF14: I heard it tanked really bad and it (is) or will be free to play.
Even though it’s a spin-off I can’t believe you didn’t include the Final Fantasy Tactics series!
It brought back the “Fantasy” aspect of Final Fantasy!
Also based on the Ivalice Alliance it seems like the Tactics games are actually sequels/prequels to FF-XII.

Yeah I pretty much agree. And I’d rather have a FFVI remake than a brand new game (although I’ll still be checking it out, I’m just not expecting much).
I played the first 2 in GBA.
They weren’t that good.
I played 3 & 4 on the DS, 3 seems to be the first good Final Fantasy but starts off weak, but gets great stories & Plots after the beginning of the game.
4 was good all the way.
Waiting & hoping for 5 & 6 on the 3DS, since after I beaten 4 on the DS and heard that they wanted a better graphical system for 5 & 6.
7 my favorite so far.
8 also good.

10 better than 8 & 9
10 2 I wasn’t surprise when people said it sucks, because they must have only had like a month to work on the script.
11 wasn’t surprise to heard it suck, because the concept gameplay was to horrible to be good with the 1 year time they were working on it.
12 heard it brings the good back to the main series.
13 seems promising and I don’t have any problems with cut scenes.
13 2 should be good when it comes out
14 should be like a good version of 11, but I haven’t played it.
15 it better be ported to the Wii U.

It could just be a temporary project name. The final title will likely be different.

If it’s getting a website with the name then it’s likely the final name. Plus whose to say, maybe the title is relevant to the actual game. After all they haven’t tackled a game with different dimensions yet.
One small part in FF3 had them go to a different dimension.
Arguably different dimensions is what Dissidia is all about.

I’m serious. I plan on playing VIII. I have played a little of IX and liked it. I also plan on (Eventually) getting X. I beat XIII and loved it (My fave characters from the game are Lightning, Hope, and Sazh). I’m currently going through VI.
Hopefully this is like dissidia in the aspect that it combines characters from all the final fantasies, but is an RPG like the actual final fantasy games rather than a spinoff.

Good News everybody, the 3DS has more better Graphics than the PS Vita:
The GPU’s
PS Vita = 300 MHz
3DS = 400 MHz
The PS Vita up to 12 Million Polygons
The 3DS up to 15 Million Polygons.
And the 3DS CPU 1.8 GHz Duo Core (3.5 GHz 100% Effectively).
And it is underclock at 800 MHz per core (just 1.6 GHz output) to maintain good Battery Life.
And the PS Vita CPU 1.2 GHz Quad Core (4.5 GHz or so) so just imagine how bad the Battery Life is gonna be (probably 2 to 4 hours).

FFX getting a remake actually isn’t that hard to imagine why.
It did really well, it would be easier to update the graphics then any other game, and there was content available in the International release that was harder to find.
I’d personally want a remake of IX, but X getting a remake isn’t that bad.

Final fantasy is the franchise, every game is different characters, different worlds. Usually the attacks all have the same names but look different and vary from game to game but are essentially the same. Also character development and gameplay vary from game to game. There are a few sequels within the series but typically they are all separate adventures. If you’ve never played a ff, vii is amazing. Lots of people disagree but even more people agree. Sure the dialogue is dated and cheesy at times but the story and gameplay is awesome, the undertones and complexity of it all is a tale and adventure worth experiencing. If you don’t like turn based jrp’s you may not like it though. FFX is renowned as well.
Or anything numbered is the main series while anything else is a spin-off…I’m waiting for a new Crystal Chronicles game…
The spin-offs usually try a different approach to gameplay. While the main series are always turn based RPG, the spin-offs are usually either real time or strategy with a little bit of turn based mixed in.
From what I’ve seen the only FF series that never used turn based gameplay was the Crystal Chronicles one. I could be wrong but w/e.

I’m pretty scared of the new Final Fantasy games these days, they don’t have the same “Final Fantasy feeling” as they once did… :’[ Hopefully the 3DS will receive a decent Final Fantasy game if the rumors are true.

I kinda lost interest in final fantasy after X-2, so this is lost on me. But hey, I’m sure someone wants this.
What I want are full remakes of Final Fantasy VI and V. A spinoff is a good diversion for a while but it doesn’t beat playing VI in full 3D!

No, Nintendo hasn’t said anything about AC’s release… however, it is rumored that AC:3DS will come out in Japan before/during summer, and ONM also had an ETA of Summer 2012.
Didn’t SE say that they were considering re-making FFV for the 3DS in June, but that it depended on how well the 3DS did? Well, maybe the holiday sales of the 3DS convinvced them! My guess is that this might be the re-make of FFV… was FFV good?
Well I don’t see many people talking about Bartz being one of the best Final Fantasy heroes.
I think it may be the most underrated one in the series not counting FF6.
I’m pretty sure 6 isn’t underrated.
I’d even say one of the most glorified (next to 7 and 8) and oddly enough it’s the only old one I have tried to play (and stopped).
