For the past few days we’ve been wondering what ‘Nintendo Network’ could be. In response to a customer’s question on the matter, the following was said by a customer service representative:

Nintendo WFC (Wi-Fi Connection) and Nintendo Network are one and the same. This is not to be confused with any other network or connection as our servers are integrated to one another.

And there you have it. It seems like ‘Nintendo Network’ is just a re-branding of ‘Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection’, though we won’t know for sure until we receive an official statement from Nintendo.

    That sounds interesting. o:

  • supermariofan

They should just stop renaming things :/ I was acually looking forward to this

    • Plazma

When have they Re-Named things in the past?

I certainly can’t think of anything.

    • miiworld2

awww. dwont be saaaad. it’s only a liiiie.

  • http://hybrilynx.net/ Hybrilynx

this is why nintendo takes days for emailing people back. everyone sends them useless emails like asking what is nintendo network.

    • http://1227.com/ Davidude

      Indeed…

  • Mike S

What do you expect them to say? “yes, you caught us, Nintendo Network is completely new and we’re making a brand new online service” I doubt the customer service rep wouldn’t have lasted long after that XD. We should wait till E3 for what Iwata has to say, not some customer service rep who probably doesn’t know anything anyway. Also, if Nintendo isn’t having an updated service, why is the Wii U home console getting Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Online if it’s not gonna have the online to support the game? Ubisoft already knows the Wii U online will be great, otherwise they wouldn’t make the game for it, would they? :)

    • Mike S

      *the only home console

    • Redlixer289

Yeah, I thought the same thing. However, I wish that wouldn’t outright lie to us (by saying it’s just a re-branding, and then saying that it’s and actual online network). I like reading their responses that try to go around the truth, and say something else. Basically, lying without lying. ;)

    • Naner

I don’t think we’ll have to wait ’till E3. Final Fantasy Theatrhythm is coming out in Japan next month, and, if it has the logo on its boxart, we’ll probably know something about Nintendo Network by then.

Or maybe it is – temporarily – just a re-branding.

    • Mike S

I don’t think they lied. Like i said, the customer service rep probably didn’t know anything about it.

    • http://gravatar.com/jacknzack27 JacknZack

He might be right about the 3ds and something else might come to the wii u

    • Szayel

      Totally agree with you.

  • Captain Falcon

    Crap. Seriously. Crap.

    • epicgameturtle

Poop, sh*t, feces, dung, umm what else…

    • Mr. Koopah

    • nack127

lol. i was about to write scat, but you beat me to it! XD

  • Luciano Fran

Guys dont get your hopes up trust me nintendo is working on thier online system .Awsome things just takes time to make :) just like when my mom made me :) lol

    • jonathan peabody

Are you implying your parents were very passionate and slow when they were making you?

    • Mike S

I think he’s talking more about the 9 month gestation period.

    • Josh

Let’s try not to think into this too hard.

    • Szayel

      xD

    • epicgameturtle

Oh gawd! And by the way, your daddy made you.

  • Drew

    Im sad

  • Lene

Nintendo, 1st April is far away, come on ^^

  • dubYA

I’ll wait and see for myself. I won’t be surprised or disappointed if this turns out to be true. It’s just that the last time I talked to a Nintendo Customer Service Rep, it was a while before the first major update, and I had some questions about it and the upcoming eShop. I must have talked to 3 different representatives, and when I asked about the update, they seemingly had no clue what I was talking about (even though it was to be available in a month at the time). My point is this: Customer Service Reps don’t always have all the answers.

  • Regulator

Why on earth would they change the name to a service that’s been around for years from one thing to another?

Hmm, I dunno, maybe to reflect that the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection is BECOMING the Nintendo Network, thus inferring the service is CHANGING in it’s entirety?

You try to be subtle, and nobody gets it.

    • Xarreno

Sometimes subtle is too subtle. *shrugs* I had the same feeling. It’s probably improved overall. If what this rep. says is true, then it could mean that it’s the same network just updated in some way or another. So much, that it would seem like something else entirely. I, dunno, it’s just a guess.

    • Eric Estrada

      >try to be subtle.
      >subtle
      >Regulator
      >REG

  • ren

so no nintendo porn then ? :(
    i feel disappointed

    • Jacob

…………. Really? You’d think Nintendo would actually do that? ………. ok then.

    • https://en.gravatar.com/jacknzack27 JacknZack

Becareful. I saw what happend the last time you joked about porn on here.
some people just cant take a joke

so yeah just to clarify i am kidding

    • LaLaLa

      Torn.

    • http://www.NintendoWorlds.net TurboPikachu

conversations like these make me wish there were mods monitoring the comments section of this blog….

      Yeah, it’s gotten that bad… :(

    • Big E

I was just trying to use subliminal messaging to be funny…@TurboPikachu Are you now figuring that out? I only use (Very rarely I might add) “Adult” anything for comedic purposes. I would never use it to hurt others on purpose.

  • GamingFan99

I think they’re lying… THEY BETTER BY LYING! I don’t care about great online… but other people do, and if Nintendo doesn’t step up their game, they aren’t gonna do well at all with the 3DS/Wii U…

  • Ty

They never stated that it’s a rebranding of the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. They just said that they are on the same servers- which is pretty typical for companies to do. Plus, even if it just is the NWFC, that doesn’t mean that they are unable to add improvements.

  • holonboy

Yes, it is Nintendo WiFi Connection, but can’t it be an upgrade too?

Saying it is a network similar to PSN or Live doesn’t mean it won’t be Nintendo WiFi Connection but rather a modified version of it.

    • holonboy

That would also be the most probable reason why they’re renaming it – to market it differently after such a big change.

  • epicgameturtle

I hope customer service is lying. I want 3DS achievements!

    • Crappy Daddy

I dont think he is lying. Customer service are only like “Its not officially? Well then, it doesnt exist? “

    • GamingFan99

He probably is. Customer service rep’s don’t know much about the inner workings of Nintendo.

  • http://thegamingpixelshow.com thegamingpixelshow.com

Nintendo…Do you have a trick up your sleeve?

  • manny

i dont want to believe u, but if true major bummer :(

  • Auzzie Wingman

    It’s not all that bad.

I mean, are people really expecting it to be as powerless as it was on the DS/Wii?

It’s probably recieve a major upgrade since. Remember, EA is working closely with the online, and don’t have any problems with it as of yet. I really don’t think they’d be satisfied with the DS/Wii version of Nintendo Network.

  • Money Bee

The new name is much better. Nintendo Wifi sounds so… old!

  • miiworld2

Oh puh-lease. I once worked as a customer rep for Apple, and they have a policy that says not to reveal anything to customers related to new features and releases unless the company makes it known to the public. I’m pretty sure the rep was paid to make us think that it’s still WFC.

You didn’t hear this from me. (tosses hands) ah, phoeey. Who cares about Apple. I loathe them.

  • TheREALhousewife

Well that was a waste of our time.

    OOOOOOOIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNKKKKKKKKKKK

  • LaLaLa

articUNO (LOOK AT THE LINK IN THE TOPIC AND LOOK AT THE COMMENTS)

  • nack127

my comment to this is…..awwwwwwwwwwww :(

  • Zyph

We shouldn’t say anything until the Wii U network services are announced. If the CSR’s statement is true then it is to be expected for a handheld. On a console’s case i really think it’s different and not just a re-branding of the service.

  • http://youtube.com/user/bladecrashic122 Tundiam

Trying to match up to PSN?

  • jsb

Excuse me, derpfaces, but did nobody think that just because it’s the same thing doesn’t mean they can’t add a few new features to it, such as DLC.

  • CrimsonalCore

“Nintendo WFC (Wi-Fi Connection) and Nintendo Network are one and the same”

One and the same… lol Bish, plz,

If they’re one and the same, it should still be called Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, but oh well. o:

  • Flip (0216-0815-1147)

At least the logo is cute now.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/nintendobro64 NintendoBros64

hmm… look at this websites URL
    http://3dphoto-contest.nintendonetwork.net/
notice nintendonetwork.net. maby this is what they trademarked.

    • Flip (0216-0815-1147)

      this is old.

  • Explosivejones

Well the wi-fi IS different from the wi-fi on the ds/wii.
so they had to separate them somehow.
