*Petit Computer* is a DSiWare application that allows you to make simple games on the DSi using the BASIC programming language, and its on its way to the 3DS. As Siliconera reports, “After you download the program you can write loops, draw graphics, and create sounds to make your own video game.” It’s also possible to create your own graphics from within the application and share your creations with your friends. Smileboom, the developers of the software have confirmed that they will be releasing an updated version via the eShop when it’s made available later this month. Hopefully it’ll be available outside of Japan.

    that sounds cool :D

    • NeoTechni

It is, I’ve been trying to ask the guys to bring it out here but they never reply. The program is mostly in english anyway

And I hate siliconera, that ishmaal guy is a complete ass

  • Philipdraco

I suppose that “Coding games in Basic” book I bought at a library sale last month WILL be put to good use. :)

  • Zyph

nice app! now I can do some official (maybe not) programming on the DS lol

one thing i’m concerned about is that this can be a potential exploit for piracy or something :P or maybe i’m just overreacting :D

can’t w8 to try it out

    • Elfteiroh

I don’t think. It looks like very limited, and closed. It’s still, great, but I don’t think we will be able to use anything extern of the “game”, like Wario Ware DIY, but more old school.

  • Sean

    Sounds interesting…

I’m nearly obliged to get this being a software development student. :p

I’m curious how in depth we’ll be able to go.

    • ace the fox

      @ what school?
im trying to get a career in software development(mostly game design) and i have no clue what school to go to!

  • Meesho

Do you think it’ll be possible to save an image on an SD card and put that into the program to use for a game?

  • jd2701

    Freaking Epic!!!

  • skywardsword

    • Faisal95

    • Elfteiroh

One: It’s not made by Nintendo.
      Two: Late may.

    • skywardsword

One: errrr.. I knew that. Just wanted to punch Nintendo. Two: We want a specific details on the release date! No hush hush!

    • Elfteiroh

      One: Ok.
Two: Yeah I know, I just love speaking like this. I want to know too! xD

  • lemonman

Wow, I haven’t programmed in BASIC in , (mumbles) years … this could be fun.

  • Yulaw

I remember using Basic on my C64 when I was a kid. this will be awesome.

i never even heard of such thing on the dsi.? if i get my hand in this im definitely going to make some metroid like games of my own.

  • Odd Bob

If anyone’s interested in just fooling around with BASIC, Atari’s Greatest Hits Volume 2 has an emulator of the Atari 400 computer, complete with BASIC and it even saves to an emulated disk (though it doesn’t have anyway to list a directory from BASIC so you have to be careful to remember the file names) Not as awesome as this, perhaps, but at least you can own it now on a non-Japanese DS…

    • WingedOne

I have this, but as far as I can tell, it only has the Atari 2600 BASIC programming cartridge on it.

    • Odd Bob

      Look under “Extras”

  • nicnec7

What?! Why is this the first I’m hearing of this?
    ME WANT!!!

  • MDragon

Has anyone noticed how this looks VERY similar to that one picture of a 3DS that had “Hello World” on it xD

    Fake/misunderstood?

    • nicnec7

Stupid people is stupid, O’m not even going to explain this to you.

  • Gamegal

This sounds neat. I sure hope it’ll be released outside of Japan. The DSi one isn’t even in English though. :(

I have really enjoyed making games and other programs with BASIC in the past and some screenshots I have seen for the DSi version even seem to show some nice looking (though basic) RPGs. I REALLY hope this makes it state side. ME WANT!
