A review of F1 2011

F1 2011 has never provided the impression of being a worthy purchase. Unfortunately, those impressions seem to have been spot-on based on what Nintendo Life had to say about the game. Here’s their conclusion:

F1 2011 is, unfortunately, not the game to remedy matters. Unless you’re a fan of frustrating ugly racers with brutally unrealistic and aggressive opponent AI, we advise that you steer well clear of it. Maybe next year, Codemasters will release the game that F1 fans deserve.

    I’m hopefully going to get this for Christmas and, despite its faults, I’m really looking forward to it.

    This is a huge F1 fan speaking, though, so I’m bound to be biased.

      This is not the right time for publishers to make racing games for the 3ds…theres too much competition:
      Aspalt 3D,
      Driver Renegade,
      Ridge Racer,
      Face Racers Photo Finish
      and especially the main threat, MarioKart 7

      The Last thing we need is ANOTHER racing game. oh yeah, and the graphics look like SHIT.

      You forgot Nascar Unleashed, Need for Speed The Run, Cars 2, Ben 10 Galactic Racing and DreamWorks Super Starz Kart.

      However, most people who have reviewed F1 2011 have lauded it as the best serious racer on the 3DS. Mario Kart 7 has nothing to do with that game, they play very, very differently.

      (and the graphics for F1 2011 were praised and it was even noted by professional reviewers and 3ds forum members that people shouldn’t trust the screenshots because the game was really well-made when you looked at it in person)

      I don’t know about you guys, but I’m hoping for a new Burnout on the 3ds… (or at least a remake of Burnout Revenge)

      ^That’s exactly what I want! Burnout is one of my favorite racing titles. Especially because of the destroying of your opponents for boost in Burnout Revenge (or Paradise). What made it better was slow motion crash shots along with making close calls in heavy traffic.

      It actually does have online and has been very well-reviewed at other professional reviewers and by forum members. I’m surprised to see they didn’t enjoy it more. The only other negative review bashes the game for not being successful at being a racing simulation, but every other review understands this game blends arcade racing and simulation racing successfully. One of my most-trusted, and usually very harsh, videogame website (jeuxvideo.com) has given it a score of 15/20 – which is pretty rare – and the average score of 9 unprofessional reviewers who posted their review in response to the article is of 16/20.

    It’s too bad that for once there’s a generally favorably reviewed third-party title on the 3DS, it receives a bashing article on the blog. Why not post all the other very positive reviews? Even the only other negative review I’ve read concerning this game has said it was because it wasn’t a satisfying racing simulation, but all the other reviews have argued that this game blends arcade racing and simulation racing successfully. They’ve also praised the game for its beautiful graphics that can’t be judged on screenshots as well as a wealth of content in single-player mode AND an online mode.

      Don’t worry man, everyone else that has played the game has said it was great. I don’t understand why David chose to single out a negative review and ignore all the very positive echoes surrounding this game. Everyone says it’s the best serious racer on the 3DS, so if you’re ready to accept a more arcade feeling to F1, you should be fine. I’ll pick this game up as soon as I have the money, I’ve heard enough to convince me it was worth it. I don’t know why David felt he had to create negative buzz around one of the best-received third-party titles on the 3DS, especially comparing to Mario Kart which we know F1 is nothing at all alike.

    Why would anyone ever buy this game? There is MarioKart and Ridge Racer.

      Ridge Racer was pretty crappy too. The main reason it got good reviews is because it was the only decent racing game that launched with the 3DS. MarioKart is a totally different sub-genre of racing, so it can’t really replace the feel of a real car game. Hopefully somebody makes a decent car racing game soon. I don’t really care if it’s arcade or simulation- as long as it’s a good game.

    I’m not really a fan of more realistic racers anyway, Mario Kart type games are the best (and Mario Kart is the best of that type!)

    It’s a shame for anyone who was looking forward to it though.

    I knew ppl in the forum were just hyping the game.

    I’m going to wait for the Vita version, most likely other than Mario Kart I’ll stick with Vita for Racers, shooters and Sports games.

    Seems very bizarre that one negative review makes it on to here but ignores all the positive ones.

    Everything i’ve read and heard about the game has been very positive, and i got it day 1 and have to say, it is a very good racer. This review doesn’t do it justice.

    Oh and please god people, stop comparing it to MK7. Yes MK will sell more, more people will play it, it will be better, but they are SUCH different racers.

    F1′s metascore is 59, I looked up some review scores and half of them are 4/10, while the others are 7-8/10.
    I have even read one of the reviews and it went like: Bad AI, mediocre music and graphics, no players in multiplayer…8/10. o_0 That and the gameplay trailer made me believe that it really deserves 4/10.
