A few new details from Beyond the Labyrinth

According to reports, Beyond the Labyrinth has a grid-based system of movement and you are only allowed to move one square at a time. The battle system consists of real-time turn-based battles in which you have to hit enemies with their elemental weakness. There is a twist, though. The girl companion will join you in battle, but you must protect her. She cannot attack enemies and instead talks to the players during battle.

      So much hype for the graphics…if this game is like fire emblem in my opinion it is a piece of poop.

      Fire Emblem series are fucking great games, if SRPG is not your thing then STFU, the game’s not good for you, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a good game. Anyway, this looks more like SMT:SJ or Etrian Odyssey, that’s grid based dungeon crawler, not SRPG. SMJ:SJ was good, but I don’t have high hopes about this one.

    To be honest, the more info about the game, the less I want to buy it. I was hoping to be able to control the girl and move freely wherever I want. Guess that’s not the case.

      to be honest I wanted this game but then I found out about Tales of The Abyss and I will get that instead.

    Sounds like a similar system to Etrian Odyssey where each step you take is equal to one grid square since the map is drawn out as you walk. It’s a standard system used in dungeon crawlers and shouldn’t be confused with a strategy RPG.

      If I remember correctly there was a Persona game that allowed you to talk to your enemies and make them join you, run away, or just make them commit suicide.

      My memory might be a bit off though, I didn’t like the older Personas much.

    People complaining. Seriously? No matter how much information is leaking out (good or bad) this game still stands as amazing doesn’t it? This is a Day 1 Buy for me, personally.

      I’d laugh if you’re in a tough boss battle and she just pops up randomly and says “Isn’t the scenery just beautiful?”

      It’ll probably be more helpful than that. :p

      More like she’ll grab the boss’ attention and yell “Look! That flower behind you! Isn’t it beautiful?”, allowing you to attack. Sadly, she’ll get mad a you too…because he fell on the pretty flower. -_-

    The grid system is somewhat disappointing, but I’ll still reserve my judgment. I think it’ll be wonderful regardless.

    I’d say this game is “Nothing more than a pretty face.” It looks great, and had so much potential, but the gameplay has ruined it.

    I think we’ll just have to see how this game works in future gameplay videos. I doubt they would put so much effort t\in the game only to say “You know what? Let’s just make this as little interesting and exciting as possible.” They probably had a clear idea of how they wanted to make that game to make it good and we just need to trust them until we can see for ourselves.

    They ruined it. I hate turn-based grid games. Those are restricting and lame.

    The graphics looked so good too, oh well.

      I think you are confusing this with a strategy RPG. The grid in this simply refers to the map drawn as you navigate through the dungeon, not the actual battle.

    As seen in this video, the movement is not as halted as one would think in a grid based system, you still get to see the awesome scenery.

      It also seems odd that she can pick the unseen protagonist like that. It also seems like there is some kind of force field surrounding you, as indicated when she reaches out to touch you but is repelled. Maybe you are looking through a little hovering cambot of some kind.
